Terrible service, terrible atmosphere, good food 7/31/2011

On a Sunday evening, with three tables full, the food was served late at every table. Some people at each table had finished their food before the others were served. One woman had to ask for her food to go because they had been waiting an hour, and her two companions had already finished their meals. It was also very hot and dark. In spite of the fact that the food was good, I will not be going back. There are many other places to have delicious food in the Twin Cities. more

WORST THAI PLACE IN MINNEAPOLIS....BEWARE 9/10/2010

This is the WORST Thai place in Minneapolis. I went there for lunch with a few friends. We ordered stir frys, which should not take long to make. We waitied for over 45 min and our food never came. The place was not busy at all, so there is no excuse for the wait. The servers never stopped by to apologize for the wait or assure us that the food was coming. When we finally told the server that we were leaving b/c it was taking to long there was no apology just and ""ok"" from the server. WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. The place smelt like uring and was old and dingy. I would not recommend this place to anyone, steer clear! Check out Tum Rup Thai in uptown it is 100% better. \r more

taste of sugarland 5/5/2009

I used to live above Ruam Mit so I have experienced some of the cities best Thai. And since they moved down the street on St. Peter, they are still pretty good under new ownership. \r I have also gone to Taste of Thailand on Selby which like EVERYONE says, has poor service but excellent food. However at their new location on just off White Bear Ave. they are much cleaner than the other location but every dish seems to have sugar added to it. We had the luch buffet today, and I sampled everything on it. All the dishes seemed to have huge amounts of sugar added into them. Even the fish sauce was thick and syrupy. Not at all an enjoyable meal. And forget about being productive at work after that sugar buzz wore off. Pros: athmosphere, cleanliness Cons: price, flavor and sugar more

Gem of the Twin Cities! Simply amazing! 3/30/2009

The pineapple fried rice is delicious beyond words. Order it with chicken and make it spicy. The special egg rolls and accompanying sauce are also super tasty. Also good: pad thai, pad khing, every soup on the menu, the spring rolls, the entire buffet!! Pros: BEST egg rolls, BEST pineapple fried rice Cons: Lackluster decor doesn't match the fantastic menu. more

5-Star Food, 1-Star Service 9/7/2008

Taste of Thailand appears to have just undergone a renovation around Labor Day 2008, but making the inside look nicer, but still don't seem to appreciate the ""business of running a restaurant"". We're all familiar with their 5-star food and 1-star service (don't answer the phone, frequently out of many items on the menu, line of people waiting to be seated with empty tables nearby....standing side by side with those waiting in line to pay, being told upon picking up take-out order that they didn't have your dish but failed to call you to tell you this even though they had your phone number on the order, then not even thinking to apologize...). Saturday night at 7 pm...we called to order take-out, but no one would answer the phone. Waited 5 minutes...dialed again...again, apparently nobody was ""tasked"" with answering the phone that night. We ended up driving all the way to Tea House for our dinner, even though Taste is a 5 minute walk away. It's a shame, as I've seen restaurants that are run efficiently like True Thai (Franklin Ave) and Cam Ranh Bay (Eden Prairie), and they seem to do it with the same number of employees. Taste just doesn't even to be aware of how much business they've lost because of their lack of organization. Pros: 62-Fish, Fish Cakes (When They Have Them), Squid Salad, Papaya Salad Cons: Total Absence of Any Organization or Customer Service more

Love them!! 7/29/2008

I love this place! My boss turned me onto it when he ordered it for an office lunch. Now we order from there almost once a week! They're very friendly and remember us when we call. The food is always great and fresh..I would definitelly recommend this to anyone! I was wary about ordering Thai food at first because I have never had it, but after eating from here, it is now my favorite kind of food! Pros: Food is great! Cons: Generally always busy (because the food is so great) more

If this is what Thailand tastes like... 7/22/2008

Even before I entered Taste of Thailand my instincts told me to leave. There were foot tall weeds lining the entrance to the restaurant and a stain on the side of the building that looked not unlike someone had thrown a large piece of dung at the restaurant (maybe a previous customer?). I, of all people, know not to judge a book by its cover, so I looked past the weeds and dirt and entered the restaurant. I don't know whether the smell inside originated from the recently ended lunch buffet or if the owners breed gerbils in the backroom, all I can say for sure is that the entire restaurant smelled like the pet store at the Har Mar Mall. My partner and I were lazily directed to seat ourselves. Thankfully, sensory fatigue soon set it and the smell of caged animals and wood chips was replaced with the sweet and tangy smell of cream cheese wanton sauce and spring rolls. The wantons were shriveled and small with half as much cream cheese as I have seen in other restaurants. The self-proclaimed ""Best Spring Roll in the Twin Cities"" were underwhelming, to say the least. My partner, a woman once described by a former lover as ""a bit of a masochist"", made sure to order her Pad Thai extra-spicy. I am much more delicate than her, both in sexual spirit and in stomach, so I ordered my favorite dish, Tom Yum soup, medium. When our food was brought out, however, her's had barely any spice at all and mine was so spicy I thought I was going to cry. We considered sending them back but, despite being the only customers in the entire restaurant, the waiter did not return to our table to check on us. I tried her dish as well as mine and the strongest flavor in both was the salty taste of MSG. Halfway through our meal, my partner was able to flag down a busgirl and demand a spice wheel. Unfortunately, this did little to spice up the dish because the chili sauce was so old it had lost all flavor. The ambiance was unpleasant, the servers were unfriendly, and the food was unappetizing. Pros: I know never to eat there again Cons: I already ate there more

Food Decent, dining experience horrible 6/10/2008

I've eaten here five times and five times I've been told ""Sorry, we're out of that today"" of something that I attempted to order. They run out of things as basic as chicken, shrimp, all coke products, etc. The service is always lousy, the atmosphere horrible. The only reason I've come back is the food is decent. They've had this reputation of lousy service for at least five years, but they don't seem to do anything to correct it. Too bad because the food is pretty good. Pros: If they have what you want in stock, the food is decent Cons: Horrible atmosphere, lousy service, run out of ingredients frequently, overpriced for the whole package. more

Not strongly recommended 5/16/2008

They make mistakes for orders what I was heard. However, I experienced same thing. If you ask them for your preference for hot or not hot, you should be really careful. We order the foods over the phone and asked them for not hot at all for kids. Brought back the ordered foods home, put on dishes, and saw the lots of hot peppers in. Called them for what I can do for this, they said I have to bring all the food back to them to show them and they can see if they made mistakes. And then, they can fixe it. Worst service ever. Never say sorry at all. Cons: Down more

Sooo very disappointing 3/2/2008

This is probably about the third time I have eaten here. This will be the last. This place is renound for slow service. The wait staff was not familiar with the dishes on the menu. It took forever for us to get our food. When the first 4 of our entrees arrived they were not hot. The 5th entree did not arrive until everyone else had finished their food. I thought I would give this place another try because our favorite Thai place is closed on Sundays. What a huge mistake. Cons: SLOW SERVICE. REALLY SLOW! more

Terrible Service, Great Food 1/4/2008

Well, every time I order from them (which is often) I feel like I am inconveniencing them by spending money there. I love the food. It's delicious. But they need more staff and a larger space. They are generally rude at the check-out desk and on the phone. I just called tonight and after having it alternate each call from a busy signal to ringing with no answer, someone finally answered, asked if I could hold, then hung up on me. I was so set on their delicious food that I called back again a bit later. When I said I wanted to place a take-out order the guy said ""It's gonna be 45 minutes....I just had someone complaining about how long it took to get their food so if you can wait, fine...but I don't want anymore complaining!!!"" It just feels like they have no appreciation for the customer. But again, best Thai I've ever eaten....which makes it hard to stay away. And makes it painful to keep giving them my money. Pros: food Cons: service, staff, ambience, wait, inconvenience more

Good food, horrible service. 12/7/2007

It's great for take-out. Service eating in needs to improve. Diners are forgotten. They are always out of dessert (list is also limited). Food is delicious though. Ambience, what ambience? more

horrible 5/26/2007

The service was horrible.. Management of the restaurant is terrible also. I felt really bad giving my money to that place. Pros: terrible place Cons: terrible place more

Best thai food ever! 1/8/2007

I have always loved this restaurant for its authenticity and neighborhood feel. The dishes prepared are always full of flavor and the staff are always friendly. I have recommended this restaurant to many people, and they are always impressed. If you like curry & you can handle spicy food, try #79! Pros: Authentic thai food Cons: Sometimes the service gets slow when they are too busy more

Best Thai Food in St. Paul 10/17/2006

I couldn't let that bad review sit out there on the web without getting in my 2 cents to balance the comments. I have eaten at TOT probably 50+ times and haven't had a bad meal yet. Even their buffet is worth trying [and I find buffets usually mediocre]. Their fresh spring rolls are to die for and their Tum Yum soup is unrivaled anywhere in town. As a matter of fact, it's only 9:30 in the morning and this writing is making me hungry! Go there! But be warned: any place this good is often pretty crowded. I often go at off hours like 3 on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Enjoy! more

Bad experiences almost always 3/18/2005

What can I say about this place? The food is ok-good, but the experiences were almost always bad. There was one time where we had to wait for almost 1/2 hour for the food! but let me tell ya, there was one time where we waited long, and they got our orders all mixed up, 8/12 of our orders got their orders wrong, beef was replaced with pork, mild with hot, mild with not spicy, things like that. the place is cold. I don't know what else to say. The food is good, but not worth it. Pros: good food Cons: lonh service, cold place more
