I was reluctant to try this restaurant - the parking isn't great and no one ever seems to be in there - but after the Little Door botched our reservation, we headed down to give it a try. Lemmee tell ya, the dining gods must have been looking out for me cuz holy moly, this place is a FIND. It's byob, so we walked a few blocks down and brought back some wine, which they didn't charge us to cork. They refilled our glasses attentively and we were served by friendly, knowledgeable servers who I think actually wanted to be there, and not in their acting class. The ambiance is warm, inviting, simple, with lots of candlight. And the food. WOW. The tuna tartare is hands down the best I've had in LA, beating out my all time favorite, Asia de Cuba. The short rib was succulent and melt in your mouth delicious, the raviolis were a special and good LORD they were awesome - perfectly cooked with a cacophony of flavor and just the right amount of sauce. The cheese plate was a basic cheese plate with nice variety, the seafood was zesty and fresh. We had something chocolate for dessert that was served with a light lavendar cream that was exactly what my taste buds needed. Tasca has really nailed it: ambiance, service, and really, really fantastic food. The prices are slightly higher than you'd expect, but you don't mind - the entire experience is worth it. I think this place just made it into my top ten list.
Pros: Tuna Tartare, warmly lit and cozy, service, menu
Cons: Can be a little loud
