Best

Good solid menu, knowledgable and affable staff. I have never had a problem with any waiter et nous avons bien mange! Pros: Not a modern bistro, come here rather for old worl...

Worst

For the price, you can get a lot better french food. Nothing was spectacular, it felt like french food for your american grandmother.

Excellent Food Improved Service Great Decor 10/22/2005

This place is decorated like a real old fashioned restaurant. It has a white couches and booths room, a stately dining room with old fashioned wall murals and wood tables and chairs, and a serparate huge bar room not just a bar. I wouldn't recommend the private library room, it's like eating in a closet, no windows. Excellent food very authentic tender French food. They practically give you soup, salad, sherbet for free, excellent spirits by the glass, desserts, trout almondine is fabulous so is the salmon. Not recommended on holidays, the food quality suffers because of too many people. The service has improved 100%, there used to be long waits before. Pros: excellent food, excellent ambiance, choose yourroom Cons: notforholidays, waitsforservice more

Sit in the Lounge! 3/10/2005

I love to sit in their lounge area, which is typically filled with Lakers fans on game days (big screen TV). Some nights feature live, local music acts too. And, they have their own Taix beer on tap. Elsewhere in the restaurant, there is a fairly old-school clientele, a lot of private dining areas and great ambiance. The food is superb and the prices are decent. I recommend the French onion soup and any of their daily specials (especially the filet mignon). Also, if you order a full meal, you get a practically bottomless bowl of split pea soup. Tasty! more

Double-Edged Sword 9/19/2004

If your reason for going out is the aura, the atmosphere, and the lighting, do not go here. Indeed, it looks like a poorly-decorated Holiday Inn...But! The food is amazing, the Nicoise salad is better (and the fish is fresher) than in Nice, and the portions are gargantuan! (That salad? Split between me and my boyfriend was meal enough before the entrees even arrived)...I had a Mahi Mahi special that was fabulous, cooked to perfection, his rotisserie chicken was likewise superb. Pros: Food, Portions/Value more

Therapist 6/6/2004

Quaint, definitely ""old school"". A wonderful evening awaits. Perhaps the other reviewers went with the wrong partner? Bernard is the waiter of a lifetime and the 'waiter of the year' in L. A. Escargot to die for and serivce un matched when the going trend is a perky 20-something telling you his/her name! Pros: Service, Wine list, Food more

SALES MANAGER 5/19/2004

40 YEARS AGO MY FOLKS INTRODUCED ME TO THE TAIX, EVERY YEAR FOR 30 YEARS WE WOULD ENJOY THE TRIP IN TO TOWN FOR A FAMILY GATHERING OR A LOVELY BITE LATE AT NIGHT. ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO SOMETHING CHANGED AND THE PLACE WAS NEVER THE SAME. THE FOOD JUST DOES'NT HAVE THE FLAVOR AND THE SERVICE IS LESS THAN ACCEPTABLE. TO HAVE HAD SO MANY GREAT TIMES AND GREAT EATS JUST BECOME MEMORIES IS SAD. TOO BAD. Pros: PARKING, BAR, HOURS Cons: , FLAVOR, SERVICE more

Old people everywhere... 1/18/2004

I thought this was one of the most bland restaurants i've ever been to. Not to mention very boring. I felt like i was in a convalescent hospital cafeteria. Maybe i'm too young for this place. Pros: I see old people, everywhere... more
