very smoke filled bar. Service was excellent, however, they kept pushing drinks and wine, sort of trying to run up the bill. Atmosphere was a bit too plastic. Not a warm romant...

Good and Bad 10/9/2002

Service was attentive. The waiter gave me a hard time when I decided to keep drinking the glass of wine I had gotten at the bar with dinner. I appreciate a recommendation but I not the condescending attitude. The atmosphere could've been nice, but it was very loud. My steak (the small filet mignon) was beyond salty. So were the au gratin potatoes my husband and I split. His $28 cajun ribeye was more fatty than the $12 equivalent from a much cheaper steak chain in town. I wasn't thrilled with ala carte pricing for the sides - if I'm paying over $20 for an entree, throw in a potato and some veggies! The wedge salads were very good, as were the 4 shrimp we paid $10 for as an appetizer. We had a gift certificate and I'm glad we went, but we probably won't go back. Pros: Good Service, Tasty Appetizers, Wedge Salad Cons: Loud, Overpriced, Salty Food more

What service! 8/28/2002

Incredible service, tasty food, and nice atmostphere. Steaks are just too big, though. Pros: service, quality, service! Cons: expensive more

great steaks 8/21/2002

I highly recommend this restaurant. We dined here for my parents' anniversary. The steaks were delicious and the wait staff was quite attentive. more

Treat Yourself - Once in a while 8/6/2002

Sullivan's provides good food with a big-city feel. You're paying for atmosphere, but enjoy it. The mushroom caps and the Wedge are especially good. The steaks are all good and it's fun to laugh at the prices on the Stone Crab menu. Service is very good - with more than enough waiters to go around. Have some drinks and a steak and pretend you're worth more than you are (not too hard these days). more

CELEBRATION 8/6/2002

We were celebrating birthdays the night we ate at Sullivan's and it was FANTASTIC! The food, the company, the atmosphere, the service - everything was wonderful more

Probably the best steak in town 8/3/2002

Been there twice within a week for the first time. The bar offered some great drinks (try the house Martini) but it took forever (10+minutes) to settle the bill when our table was ready - disappointing. Once seated the wait staff was outstanding - friendly and helpful. The food was prepared to our exact specifications. It was so good that I took some business associates there 2 days later. They were not disappointed either... Pros: Outstanding food, Friendly wait staff Cons: Long wait at the bar more

oh so worth the drive! 8/1/2002

we had a lovely evening out. just my daughter and I. Our first experience at Sullivan's was great.the food was outstanding though I did think the baked potato was a bit overbaked. The service was remarkable...our waiter was impeccable...thanks Daniel ! Hey to Travis..you are the man! Keep up the good work! more

Wowed Thrice! 7/30/2002

I've been to Sullivan's several times and each time have been impressed with the service and food. (my fav. is the Kansas City Strip. ie bone in NY strip) What more is there? Price maybe.....well, if you are concerned about price then stick to the GC's of the world. but for around $75-100 you and your date can eat like King and Queen! We all deserve to do just that every once in a while! Pros: Valet parking $4, Service, Live Jazz Bar Cons: Parking yourself, somewhat noisy, expensive more

Expensive, but well worth it! 7/30/2002

Great atmosphere and great food! The lettuce wedge with Blue Cheese dressing is the best in town! The horseradish mashed potatoes are also excellent! My favorite entree is the filet! more

New Favorite! 7/25/2002

I still think the Angus Barn and Ruth's Chris are great, but the 8oz filet stuffed with mushrooms that I had last weekend at Sullivan's is the best thing I've tasted in quite a while! Pros: Great Steak Cons: Expensive more

Worth every penny 6/27/2002

I splurged and ordered the one pound lobster tail special and split it with a friend. It was the freshest lobster I have had in a long time and well worth the $60 price tag. The French Onion soup was excellent and the steak I tasted from the variety of entrees on the table was cooked to perfection. Pricey but well worth it. more

Be seen 6/27/2002

Gathered up some old friends and had dinner here last weekend for the first time. 14 of us. We had a great time. Hostess was VERY nice and set us up in the library, which isnt quite as noisey as the main dining room. The lobster was over priced, the highest I have ever heard for a 1 lb. lobster tail, but it was good! Wait staff was good, flubbed on drinks some, but the drinks are strong, so beware. Pros: excellent menu, strong drinks!, vallet out front Cons: pricey, loud more

very unpleasant 6/23/2002

I went to Sullivans for the first time with a group of friends for a birthday. We went to the bar and had a few drinks which was very pleasant. When we were seated everything went down hill. It took forever to get drinks when we ordered then. Our appetizers came out at different times and the entrees were not that great. I had the 8oz filet for $21.00 with no side dishes and it tasted like I was licking a piece of salt. When we asked for our checks(3 separate ones) They were wrong and when they were corrected it took 40 minutes to get our change and credit card slips. The bar is alot of fun but I will never eat there again. more

Been There, Done That 5/25/2002

Authentically 1923 south side of Chicago restaurant atmosphere. I was expecting to look to the corner booth and see Paul Newman, Bob Redford and Harold Gould plotting their next sting. Service was impeccable. Food was al la carte, delicious and a bit pricey, but was well worth the trip.We were seated under the gigantic floral arrangement in the center of the room which I caught whiffs of all during the night. Was quite pleasant, a little loud, but otherwise inviting. Try the Cajun ribeye and fried calamari, cooked to perfection. Although there was nothing here that would entice me to come back time and again, I would certainly recommend it to a newbie. Pros: Inviting Atmosphere, Impeccable Service, Wonderful mixed drink Cons: Quite loud, Couldn't hear jazz more
