So - So 4/6/2004

Sullivans is just so, so. The food was excellent, but a tad overpriced. The atmosphere is definitely not for everyone. For the amount they charge to eat there, I prefer to have more room and not be on top of the next table over. The service is great and drinks are excellent. Not recommended for a quiet, romantic dinner - maybe a dinner party. Pros: Food is great Cons: , Loud, Overpriced more

Ms. Fisher 2/23/2004

I think that Sullivan's Steakhouse has great food and service but is over priced. Don't get me wrong, the food is great but not for the price you are paying. I think that Sullivan's Steakhouse is for people to flount their status and money and less for the food and good time!!!!! Pros: food, bathrooms, hostess Cons: , lots of drunk people, seating is very tight more

Just Okay 2/21/2004

My girlfriend and I were not that impressed with Sullivans, being a younger couple, we felt we weren't given the same amount of respect as older couples. The steaks were good, but nothing fantastic. The martinis were excellent, however, the service wasn't. A mob of servers swooped in and took our plates before we were even finished eating. In my opinion there are better places to eat in and around Raleigh. Pros: valet parking, martinis Cons: , service more

The Emperor has No Clothes 1/1/2004

Way too much salt in the side of sauteed mushrooms (or brine pellets, as we referred to them). Potato side dish w/ hint of horseradish was acceptable. Everything is a la carte, with sides running approx $6.00. The $23.00 8oz filet (their least expensive) was nondescript; we've had better beef for much less. For these dollars, go to Angus Barn. The escargot was good, but not like in Paris. Go for atmosphere only; as for the food, the emperor has no clothes. Pros: lighting, decor, crowd Cons: salt, salt, prices more

really enjoy it 10/16/2003

I go to sullivans but usually just the bar. The atmosphere is great and the food is deliciouse. Try the crab dip and calimare Pros: bar can get loud Cons: bar can get loud more

Bad all around 10/15/2003

Went there for my mother's birthday. Mom and I had prime rib, which overly salted, was 1/3 fat, and impossible to cut because of the connective tissue. It was the worst steak I've ever had. My fiance's Cajun steak was tasty, but also tough. Management only took the 2 prime ribs off the bill, and told us next time we came to call ahead and he'd make sure we got some free appetizers. There won't be a next time. Pros: nice interior, excellent service Cons: noisy, cheap cuts of meat, expensive more

Ok but not that nice 8/8/2003

There are nicer places to eat in the Triangle. I'd rather go to somewhere with pictures of people who have actually eaten there. I like red walls and dark wood but along with the cheesy pictures on the wall it's obvious they are trying to make it look like a neighborhood place without making it a neighborhood place. The food was fine but not spectatular. I had a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. It was fine but I would suggest stiltion, the danish stuff just can't stand up to the gin. The wait staff was good but all the crumb scraping drove me nuts. The waiter would grab someone else and they would just pop up asking if we were done with our plates or whatever. I guess it was the quick way to get things done but it supprised me a few times. more

Best Steakhouse in Raleigh 5/10/2003

If you can afford to come, Sullivan's is the best steakhouse in Raleigh. Unlike some of the other, older steakhouses, this restaurant has the feel of a New York restaurant. The bar area is a great place to meet another couple beforehand and it is spacious. My husband and I have dined at a lot of restaurants all over the world and this is one of the best in Raleigh. The service is good and the food is excellent. The people who dine here are upscale professionals. Good place to entertain out of town guests or business associates. Pros: service, quality, hip ambience Cons: a la carte sides, price, valet parking more

Great service, not so good food! 1/26/2003

I'll start out saying the service was great. They obviously train their staff well in the service area. We only ordered appetizer's and desserts but I have to say that the crab dip and calamari were nothing special. For this type of restaurant, I would think they would do better than that. The apple pie was cold in the middle and nothing special at all. If you're going to charge those kind of prices, you need to beef up your food. I liked the atmosphere in general but I wouldn't go there to eat. Pros: Valet Parking, Service, Entertainment Cons: Food, Pricing for food, Rude patrons more

A great evening 1/24/2003

Wonderful food and service. I also enjoyed the bar. Had an after dinner drink, with a fine cigar and great jazz band. more

9.9 1/13/2003

If you are rating Vinnie's First you have not been to Sullivans. Sullivans steaks are the best around. I give them 2 thumbs up. Try it you will not be sorry more

Succulant Sillivan's 1/13/2003

Excellent! A prime cut above! Class with a nightlife air of old jazz and modern pizzaz! I had the On-bone Kansas 20 oz cut - what a taste! Our head waiter,David, and his staff know their stuff and know how to anticipate the unspoken needs of their clients. David sent out to a local fast food restuarant to spare our 10-year old son from eating the ""boring adult food."" What a dining experience! Pros: David, Meal, Attention to detail more

The BEST place to go 1/2/2003

I took my boyfriend there for his 30th birthday. We got the best seat in the house (the 'library' seat overlooking the resturant) and the best service! We were dressed nicely and that was totally appropriate. But you can go there dressed down if you like. The steak is wonderful and so are the side dishes. This is one the nicest place to take someone in Raleigh for a nice dinner in a nice, classy, but fun, atmosphere. Pros: Service, Food more

best in town 12/19/2002

every couple deserve the experiance of dinning at Sullivans, reminds me of the ol'dinner clubs. One trip is not enough. more

Great food.... 12/18/2002

The food was great, but the seating was cramped, and it was a bit loud. Twice during our meal someone dropped a tray full of glasses. Just wasn't a lot of room to move around for anyone. more

Great Steak and Much More 12/10/2002

This is not the average Ruth's Chris or Angus Barn, which in my opinion is highly overrated. The food is wonderful, again much better than the angus barn, and the people are much friendlier. The bar has great jazz music, and the entire mood of the restaurant is much more unique than the cookie-cutter Ruth's Chris or the trite ""rustic"" look of the angus barn. They offer a wide variety of seafood, and all of the items on the menu are great, which again can definitely not be said for the angus barn. Pros: Great Seafood, Jazz Music at the bar, Food in General Cons: Price, but worth it more

The good, the bad, and the ugly! 11/23/2002

Went to Sullivan's on October 1st with a friend. Both our steaks were very good, I had a mushroom stuffed filet, he a cajun style ribeye. My stone crab claw appetizer had a delicious cocktail sauce, but the claws themselves were overpriced and quite flavorless. The creamed spinach was excellent. The wine list was very short, and greatly overpriced, over $300 for Krug Grand Cuvee - I've never seen it for more than $200 in any other restaurant. I expected the dining room to be quieter than it was. The waitstaff, although decent, seemed to be in a constant panic. Did not use the valet, as the young men appeared to be too relaxed to be trusted with my Lexus. On street parking is available nearby. Pros: Attractive room, Very good steaks, Good side dishes Cons: Rushed waitstaff, Bar too small, Tiny wine list more

Too much hype 11/14/2002

very smoke filled bar. Service was excellent, however, they kept pushing drinks and wine, sort of trying to run up the bill. Atmosphere was a bit too plastic. Not a warm romantic type of place Pros: quality Cons: atmosphere, service, price more

Not impressed! 11/7/2002

Who ever said this place was the best at anything?!?! The food was decent, I did like the lettuce wedge, however my date had to send her steak back twice because it wasn't right. The service was snobby and pretensious, including the management. Everyone in there walks around like they are better than everyone else. Needless to say, I will not go back to a place that made me feel that uncomfortable. more

Go for the Oscar! 10/23/2002

Try the Oscar carpeting on your filet the next time you go! Wash it down with a Knockout! more
