I purchased my Melissa Sweet bridal gown from Priscilla of Boston in Wynnewood PA and was told my alterations would cost $800. This price would have made somewhat sense if my gown was full of beading, lace, or swarovski crystals...but it was not. My dress was plain silk, and all I was asking for was a hem, and inch taken in at the bust, and a bustle. I called around to seamstresses in the area to see what price range they quoted me over the phone for the same service, then I did some research on their experience etc. That is when I found Brenda. She literally saved the day for me! She was a delight to work with, sweet and warm personality, and very professional. She not only did an amazing job on my gown, but she charged me over 1/2 of what I was quoted at Priscilla. When she was done altering my bridal gown, it fit like a glove and was absolutely stunning. I love Brenda and I highly reccommend her services. She is now working at Bridals by Danielle in center city Philadelphia (part time I believe). Give her a call. She does amazing work. Pros: great price, superb work Cons: None more

Wonderful alterations by Brenda 7/18/2009

I bought my gown at Suky in September for a June wedding. Brenda came to help with the alterations - they were complicated since I am short and needed the dress taken apart and put back together. She did this for me and did a fantastic job, and then an equally amazing job with the rest of the alterations, the bustle, adding pieces to keep it from slipping on me, etc. She also even helped over email/phone with undergarmet selection so that I'd have something that worked perfectly with the gown. Brenda also came in specially to meet with me a few times, as I was an out-of-town bride and wasn't in the area very much. She also picked out and bought the perfect beading to add to my dress and sewed it on - it looked fantastic and was a great pick! I was thrilled with Suky and with the job that Brena did and would recommend her to anyone who would like couture alterations! Thanks Brenda! Pros: wonderful job on alterations more

They ignore you after you pay. They don't answer or returns calls. It's all about making a buck at Suky's. Never have felt so mistreated after paying thousands of dollars for something. Take my advice, DON'T go or you can end up like me, no gown & 20days before my wedding)! fyi- I ordered my dress OVER a year ago & paid in FULL! more

I read different reviews about Suky's and the way they mistreat/ignore the needs of their brides after paying. UNFORTUNATELY I ignored those reviews & decided to purchase a gorgeous gown from them. After paying in full ($8,000) in 2/08, I am STILL waiting for my gown 5/09 and my wedding is in 3weeks. Not only do they not answer or return my calls, they also ignore emails sent directly to the manager Mary Helen(shame on you). IF YOU WANT TO GAMBLE WITH NOT HAVING YOUR GOWN IN ON TIME AND LOVE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEN SUKY'S IS FOR YOU! OTHERWISE STAY AWAY FROM SUKY'S! Pros: NICE GOWNS Cons: MISTREAT YOU AFTER PAYING & JUST DON'T CARE more

As Mother of the Bride I was thrilled with SUKY! Our great experience began at our 1st appointment. They were expecting us and were so accommodating to my daughter. They asked her what she was looking for and listened, they did not try to push anything. The staff at Suky treated my daughter with respect and gave her the personal attention she was expecting. Once the gown arrived we were introduced to the alteration team, Brenda O'Livis and Julianna Nortey ,simply the best! Let me tell you they really know their stuff! True professionals. Again, they listened to my daughter, nothing was a bother. I would recommend Suky to any Bride, they have beautiful gowns in all price ranges along with a great selection. Pros: Service with a smile more

Great Experience! 11/4/2008

I purchased my dress from Suky and had a great experience. My dress did not fit properly initially and I was really worried about the level of alteration that it needed. Juliana worked her magic so that my dress fit like a glove! She was amazing and so sweet and understanding. She didn't think I was crazy or being a "bridezilla" when I would point out things that weren't perfect in my eyes. She truely just wants her brides to be happy and she definitely made me happy! I go for my fourth (and final) fitting and pick-up next week and I can't wait! I would highly recommend Suky and Juliana to any bride-to-be! Pros: Juliana! more

I searched several places to find the perfect dress for my son's wedding. I found it at Sukey's. They have unique, elegant, and sophisticated styles. I was also impressed with their excellent service. I was particularly pleased with the wonderful woman who did the alterations, Brenda. She made the sure the dress fit comfortably and gave me great accesory ideas. She was friendly, warm, and patient. and I was very confident in her Pros: convenient location, plenty of parking, easy to find, unique styles Cons: cost more

Worst Service - Only There to Make a Sale 8/6/2008

Absolutely terrible service. No replies to emails. Rude responses when following up on dress. Flippant, obnoxious sales consultants. Only cares about making a sale and getting the commission. I wish I'd taken my $10,000 elsewhere. Seriously... Pros: Nice when you're paying Cons: Not so nice when you want to follow up on your dress; no consideration for bride more

WORST SALON - THESE PEOPLE ARE VULTURES 8/6/2008

littlegloria Provided by Partner
DO NOT GO TO SUKY.... DO NOT GO TO SUKY.... THERE ARE HORRID... HORRID.... i didn't go there to buy my dress after hearing horror story after horror story about that shop. well, i thought for a minute that those stories were wrong when i walked in and had a decent person help me. i went in there upset because a dress i ordered from a different salon was ordered in the wrong size, and with my wedding being 2 months away, i needed to find a backup dress and i saw that they were having a sample sale. the saleslady told me that if i PURCHASED a gown, i would not be able to return it but they would be happy to EXCHANGE it for another sample gown. there was a sample there that i liked but i wasn't ready to make the commitment because i wanted to talk to my mom. the saleslady said that i could put it aside with a small deposit. i left them $500 on a credit card to hold the gown... i call them back 2 days later to say i don't want the gown and to please put it back, and they tell me that my $500 is NONREFUNDABLE. these people are seriously unethical, vultures, completely apathetic and have no compassion whatsoever. they prey on brides in awful situations, and i am utterly disgusted by the way they treat their customers. DO NOT GO HERE... SAVE YOURSELF THE TEARS AND HEARTACHE... these people don't care once they have you money whether you have a dress or not. i can understand no refunds for a dress you already special ordered, but this is absolutely ridiculous.. go to Maria Romia Bridal instead in Center City Philadelphia - you'll do much better there. Pros: nothing Cons: horrid people, unethical business practice more

TERRIBLE - Don't waste your time! 8/6/2008

Do not bother to go to Suky bc they will either ignore you and treat you like you can't afford one of their dress or you'll make the mistake I made, which is to buy a dress ($10,000), go back for a veil ($400), recommend them to your friends, and then find that they don't respond to any emails, are extremely rude and snobby when you follow up on your dress, treat you like you're the evil person when the dress is over a month late, try to hang up on you, be condescending... etc. It seems all they care about is making the sale and getting the commission... after that, you're on your own. more

AVOID SUKY!! Not worth it! They are awful! by Christy L. at InsiderPages 8/6/2008

Citysearch User Provided by Partner
Hi there... So I realize Suky has nice dresses and a pretty store, but trust me...that is the only benefits of that place. They will be sweet and inviting when you're making the purchase and once you hand over your money, treat you like garbage. They truly can be nasty. I unfortunately didn't read all the terrible reviews about Suky, that I am now finding after having had such a bad experience... and I wish I had. The only thing I can do now is to likewise post honest, bad reviews for them to help others avoid the same mistake I have made. You don't want to spend a ton of money there... for what is supposed to be such a great experience...only to have a miserable one. I am not high maintenance or demanding at all... but, a simple call or email back with important questions such as when the dress is expected should be a given. I emailed over 4 times over the course of 3-5 weeks, never to get a response. That's just wrong... and my wedding was in less than 5 weeks. AVOID SUKY... FIND YOUR DRESSES ELSEWHERE! YOU WILL LIKELY REGRET BUYING IT... AND THAT'S NOT HOW YOU SHOULD FEEL ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DRESS. Look for other retailers that carry the same designers. It's worth the extra effort! Ok, good luck to you! more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!! 7/9/2008

First of all ,my very first experience of suky was awful. A very snobby blonde haired woman approached me, as if i was a fugitive on the run! To make matters worse she told me there was nothing there for me to try on, because i was to fat! first of all, i am a size 8, not a size 18! However, i fell in love with a dress in NY, and wanted to purchase it closer to home, for convenience purposes.I called, and the dress had to be "borrowed" and they would soon get back to me, to tell me when it would come in............NO PHONE CALL, for a month. Finally, i called myself, and they gave me a date when it would be in.[After i called them 15 times] Then i called again, to find out if the dress for me to try on was in the right size and color. They told me it was a size 2!!!!!!!! After all the waiting, i would not even be able to try it on!!! I asked to speak to kye,[whom had been helping me], nd was rudly responded with... "well, would you like me to call her on her day off and bother her?!!!!" At this point i had given up.I figured i would just stop in anyway. The dress was a size 10, not a 2. I was able to try it on, but i was alone. Kye promised the dress would be there until sat . My mother had taken a half a day to see the dress on friday. I received a call on wednesday night saying that they hoped i made a decision, because they were shipping the dress back to LA.! When i called to ask for an explanation, i got an attitude,as usual. And the owner NEVER called, even tough i asked for her... I would NEVER EVER go here, as i was treated so very rudly. What they do not realize, is that i was willing to spend over five thousand dollars, and now i will be giving someone else my buisness. Also a word to the wise... for the girls that work there... you are only the crummy old sales people. You try to sell the gowns.Don't be so snotty, you probably cannot afford them for yourseives,You only work there, sheesh!!! Pros: nothing more

Once you buy it, you don't matter... 6/18/2008

My mom, sister and I went to Suky being that it has the reputation of "the place" to get your wedding gown. We were given Kye as our sales person. She was fabulous during the dress shopping. I loved her! She helped me find "the dress" - a gorgeous $4,000 Vera Wang. She was so great that I told every bride to go there and ask for her. How disappointed I was when I had to go back to the store. They promised me that my dress would be in the store so my mother could help me pick out my veil. Kye was there and ignored me. She could've cared less about me. Then the manager came out and said that my dress was not delivered, and in fact, they had no idea where it was. They then assured me that the dress would be in the next couple of days and they would call me. No call- so I called a week later. Still no dress, but they assure me AGAIN that it was going to be in the store in a week. No call. I called a week later. No dress again. Through about a month of lie after lie that my dress was "definitely going to be in the store in the next couple of days" I called the Vera Wang corporate office to find it. I got the dress a week after. Had my fittings. It's beautiful. Then I set up my appt. to pick up the dress the day before the wedding at a specific time. I called to confirm the day before and they assured me that my dress would be ready. When I showed up the dress not ready and had not even been pressed and steamed yet. And when I expressed my disappointment, an extremely shobby woman (blond) made the comment "well, what? Are you just going to take it wrinkeld?" I was astonished that someone would say this to a girl about to be married when they made the mistake! In the end, they had to drive my dress down to me at a hotel in the city where I was staying. It was the WORST part of my wedding planning. I had heard a lot of negative comments about Suky since new management had taken over and I should have listened. Pros: Good dress selection Cons: Horrible service more

Great Experience! 6/11/2008

I was nervous about getting my dress at Suky (after hearing some salesperson nightmares) but my experiences were all wonderful. I had been to about 4-5 other stores trying on dresses and finally came back to Suky. I found my dress at a Vera Wang trunk show (10% off original price!) and everyone was very helpful in helping me decide which ones looked good or not. It took about 9 months to arrive, which was fine, considering our time frame. I had 3 fittings with Brenda and she was wonderful! She really made me feel comfortable in my dress and listening to all of my ideas and suggestions. She made me feel like such a special bride and was very entertaining during our fitting sessions. I didn't once feel like I was being talked down upon or made to feel inadequate. The salespeople were generally nice, except a few times I had to walk in and wait for about 5-7 minutes until someone helped me, and once I explained I bought my dress there, there were many apologies. Overall, my experience was very positive- bought my dress, mom's dress, shoes, and bra there. The headpieces were overpriced for something you wear once. Great experience, I highly recommend Suky! Pros: great seamstress, sophisticated atmosphere, large selection of dresses Cons: items were pricey more

Superb service made for a stunning result 5/30/2008

I was very anxious about trying on dresses/buying a dress for my wedding because I have shoulder scars from acne. Carol Carlisle, the wonderful saleswoman who helped me locate the perfect dress for me, Monique Lhuillier Scarlet, was sensitive and genuinely nice. After making the sale, Carol followed up with me with a handwritten letter, and came to help me with accessories and tips during my first fitting. The alterations were done by an expert seamstress, Brenda O'liva (I may have spelled her last name wrong), but BRENDA IS AWESOME! She was just as sensitive as Carol, spending over an hour at the first fitting; very experienced and works magic while making you feel like a queen. She custom-altered my dress to have the bustle just the way I imagined it, and even put in skin-colored satin over the shoulder lace to hide my scars. Carol and Brenda, thank you for making my wedding dreams come true. Everyone said that I looked stunning, and that the beautiful dress was dramatic. Most of all, you all made me feel comfortable and beautiful in my gown. Pros: Carol Carlisle (gown expert), Brenda O'liva (alterations expert) Cons: waiting for my dress to come in, but it was expected more

My search for an appropriate stylist mother of the groom dress ended when I found a stunning dress at Suky?s in Ardmore, Pa. They have a remarkable way of taking a traditional human being and making them look and feel fabulous. Suky?s was truly a once in a lifetime experience for special occasions and unique designs. The wedding was the 3rd of May 2008; I received flattering remarks all day by many individuals with regard to my fashion style. My highest admiring comment came when one of the male guests was asked, ?Who was the mother of the Groom?? The response was ?She is the Distinguish looking Lady in the Brown Dress?. This was all due to the incredible service and exclusive designers at Suky?s. I owe my elegant appearance for my only son?s wedding to the entire team at Suky?s in Ardmore, Pa, especially their alterations department. They?re incredible. I thank you very much for helping me become a distinguished looking Lady for a very important time in my life. I highly recommend Suky?s.
