Great Monte Cristo and Cartoons if you're lucky 8/3/2009

I love the atmosphere of this place, it's dimly lit and the booths are big! Before the bar became the main attraction, I enjoyed watching cartoons and looking at the various forms of art on the walls. The food is good, too, I've eaten most of the meals. The two that stand out for me is the fake fish and the Monte Cristo. Still yet, I wouldn't mind a big plate of finely sauteed local vegetables, fresh stuff, fresh stuff, more fresh stuff. The folks are nice, polite, but not so attentive, kinda serve yourself feel which I don't mind. Over all, I wish there were more Vegan places in Seattle, but this is a great start. Pros: Pretty creative vegn fare. Cons: Not all vegans get off on fake meat. Need more veggies. more

The best food ever!!! I love this place. Great food and people. I've had them cater for a party I had and everything was beautiful and delicious. Most of the guests didn't realize it was vegan. My favorite sandwich is the Monte Cristo. I used to love the meat version as a kid. I never thought I'd have one again when I stopped eating meat 25 years ago so these are a real treat! Highly recommend! more

I'm new to this messaging business. After reading the previous reviews of Squid and Ink, I felt compelled to write a review of my own. I went for the first time to the Squid and Ink restaurant last week on a Wednesday afternoon with a vegan friend. I was pleased at the relaxed, clean atmosphere, but of utmost importance of the GREAT food! My friend and I each ordered something different so we could share. Just when I though my sandwich was good, his also was every bit as delicious. The salad was much better than most and was fresh and HUGE! I can't wait to go again and I don't especially live close by since I come from Tacoma! Pros: Ambience was excellent, left me wanting to come back asap. Parking was easy. Cons: none more

Pros: - Earnest attempt at making a varied menu with vegan versions of diner favorites. Waffles, french toast, pasta, sandwiches, etc... - Most of the actual entrees are fine and pretty decent attempts at making vegan alternatives to traditional dishes - Grassroots atmosphere, art on the walls, TV playing all kinds of interesting stuff Cons: - Watered down beverages and condiments. Seriously. The orange juice and syrup at a recent breakfast were literally water with a hint of orange/sugar. If they are trying to save a nickel, this policy will drive more people away than attract. Really, it was gross. - Spotty service. Sometimes the food comes right away. Sometimes it takes a half hour for a simple dish and the place is near empty. - Cash only. Come on, this is past the 90's! - Cheap menus. They are simply photocopied sheets of paper. At least use resume paper! Pros: Decent entrees, good idea Cons: Watered down drinks and condiments, shaky service more
