SMA - Changing Lives at All Ages 11/19/2010

Under the direction of Mr. Craig Willits and his son Mr. David Willits, my son and I have reached goals in martial arts we never thought possible. SMA is honest about what they offered for the money. They offer trial periods, and watching classes before hand can be done. I really appreciated the fact that SMA doesn't pressure you to sign up and they explain everything up front. The instruction is of the highest caliber at this school and our family has great respect for the Willits‘ and their ethics. I like the fact that classes are offered for children as young as three through adult. If you’re looking for great workouts SMA has them - they’ll challenge and change you. SMA takes safety seriously and training is done in a controlled environment. SMA trains all their students for “real life” situations. Society has changed, but at SMA children are still taught about loyalty, courtesy, respect, honor, integrity, and self-control. I highly recommend SMA to everyone thinking of taking marital arts training!\r Don’t be a couch potato - never think you’re too old. I was in my mid fifties, had never taken even one martial arts class, when I decided to train at SMA. Is it something I thought I'd be doing at this age? No. Am I glad I did it? Absolutely. My stamina is better, I'm healthier, my range of motion has improved, and my flexibility is quite good for my age. My doctor says my heart will beat forever. I recommend SMA martial arts training over the gym because it’s more interactive, improves life skills, and it’s fun. \r more

Well run studio 10/22/2010

I took martial arts as a teen and wanted the same for my son. Unfortunately, training nowadays isn't anything like what I experienced in the late 1980s. Most of the places in Fredericksburg (those that would let me watch a class) are poorly run or unprofessional. Except this place. The classes are well-organized and the kids learn and improve, but they still have fun. My son's having such a blast I have considering going back to train myself. The adults train seperately, though, and we can't make it work. I think very highly of the instructors, though, and would recommend this studio to anyone who wants their kid to really learn martial arts and not just have playtime in white pajamas. more

Very good adult class 9/15/2010

They used to have a krav maga program but discontinued it. The regular adult class isn't as hardcore but is still a good workout. The head instructor does a good job keeping the self defense applications as real as possible, as much as you can in a traditional martial arts class. He took us outdoors at night recently to train self defense, and that was cool. That said, it's still traditional martial arts rather than self defense or krav. However, its really the only decent option in Fredericksburg if your looking for an adult class and aren't into MMA. more

Good school 8/11/2010

My wife and I and our kids train at SMA. The instructors are very good, very thorogh and encouraging. Adults train seperate from the kids which makes the adult class real challenging. The only problem is because there's one class for my wife and me and the kids to another it can takes a lot of time and its sometimes hard to meet the attendance requirements. This is minor though. We live close so we put up with the schedule because we love the instructors and classes. more

The right school for us 7/28/2010

My wife and I are really happy we brought our daughter here. We had heard so many horror stories about martial arts schools in Fredericksburg that we weren't sure what to expect. It was an excellent experience though. We weren't given a hard sell and their trial program let our daughter try out the class to see if she liked it before we signed her up. Our daughter really likes Mr. David, he has an excellent way with kids. Plus we are pleased with what she is learning, especially the bully and abduction defense training. We are really pleased with our choice. Pros: Excellent with kids, good to learn child safety more

Our son loves SMA! 7/21/2010

We tried soccer, basketball, swimming, you name it. However, this is the first activity my son has loved! He can't wait to get to class. Mr. David is an outstanding kids instructor. We're definitely satisfied customers! Pros: Excellent kids martial arts instruction more

Best Health Tip Going! 7/18/2010

?? I have been working out with SMA for a number of years. Recently, my company offered a medically supervised wellness and diet program. Their exercise program could not match that of SMA's. Combined with a supervised diet and SMA classes, I lost 12 lbs. and 6 inches off my waste. If you are looking to be healthy, SMA instructors are there to assist and encourage you toward your personal best!? Pros: Quality Professional Instruction more

Outstanding adult class 7/14/2010

I took karate when I was a kid, and always wanted to go back. When I moved to Fredericksburg, I started looking for a dojo. The first several I went to either emphasized kids or were mostly into cage fighting. Well, I'm in my thirties, and was looking for something more traditional than an mma gym. I finally found what I was looking for at Spotsylvania Martial Arts. They have an excellent adult class, and the training is demanding the way I remember it as a kid. These guys know how to train adults. I strongly recommend them. Pros: Great for adults more

This is an excellent martial arts school! 7/7/2010

These guys are outstanding! My teenage son has practically grown up in SMA. I never thought I'd do martial arts myself, but the instructors were very encouraging, and I tried it out. It's been a challenge, but I'm making progress and getting more confident every day. I think the world of Craig and David Willits and would recommend their school to anyone! Pros: Excellent martial arts instruction, good with kids & adult more

Must train with these guys 6/16/2010

I have known the Willits family for over 10 years. Mr. Craig Willits (the father) and I trained together for several years back in the day. He and his son (Mr. David Willits) are excellent martial artists and just plain good people. If I lived in Fredricksburg I would be training with them.? more

Satisfied Customer 5/28/2010

If you looking for a place to learn traditional martial arts and self-defense, plus have fun while doing it, then it’s at SMA with the Willits family. I have been involved with martial arts on and off for thirty-five years -- I started in tae kwon do in Fredericksburg in the 70s -- and the Willits are the first Instructors that I have found that I trust to train my three kids. They are the only instructors that I have been able to find in all these years that train like my first instructor -- all business. If you study with the Willits you will learn how to actually defend yourself instead of just dancing around. A lot of the martial arts schools out there nowadays are in it for the money. The Willits do this because they love martial arts. When you reach the level of Black Belt in their school you can say that you have earned that belt and can properly demonstrate it. Pros: customer service, quality product more
