I went and saw their eye doctor last week, he was strange. I heard about him through a friend who liked him, but he just made me feel uncomfortable. And Im not sure if the glasses prescription he gave me was even correct. I didn't get a hair appointment there, that service might be better. more

An outstanding optometrist and optician 3/24/2012

I have been going to Spex for over 10 years. Dr. Campbell's exams are always extremely thorough and his manners are impeccable. I have never had such good, careful, and patient eye exams in my life. No matter how many times I need to see Option 1 vs Option 2 again (and again and again), he just keeps doing what is necessary to get me the right prescription. And I can't speak highly enough of the opticians at Spex. I had one set of glasses where they had to get the lenses done over at least four times to get it exactly right and there was never any complaint or lack of patience or "Just try living with them for a while and see how it goes" as I got from one other high-priced shop on First Avenue. They always take all the time needed to make sure my glasses are exactly right when I leave the store. I may occasionally shop elsewhere for frames if I'm looking for something unusual but I will always get the lenses done at Spex. more

Love this place 7/6/2011

Good: I love everyone there. They make you feel like family and Dr. Campbell is awesome. I really appreciate their style and knowledge. Bad: what's not to like, oh and by the way..who is this spex in the city place...people...lets get it straight..Dr. Campbell is at Spex in downtown Seattle. Improvements: More and More of my favorite frames...MIKLI. more

Avoid. 1/9/2009

Brandi is fine but the new receptionist has very poor social skills. She is obtrusive, tends to hover. I now hate going in there. Plus, Dr, Cambell is qualified enough but he has very poor boundaries with women. more

Ida McClain is a catch! 8/22/2007

I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Ida McClain at Spex for 8 years now, Every single time I go, I come out looking and feeling fantastic! Ida is a master with color and style. And, when you say you only want an inch off, it's really and truly an inch, not the "hairstylist's inch". If you want to be more adventurous, there is no style that is beyond her skill. There's no pushing products on you, though she's happy to suggest things that will keep your hair looking just the way it does after she's worked her magic. Ida is truly one of the finest hidden gems in Seattle! more

Fantastic glasses~~Spex 4/28/2007

In the lovely area of 6th and Stewart lies a phenomenal place to get glasses. I had been needing a new pair of glasses for a year or so (getting older, ya know) and I went to Spex. I'm 46 and wear contacts about half the time and glasses the other half. A couple of years ago, tipsy from a party I crashed into a wall and broke my all-time favorite pair of glasses. I have been wearing peepers since 3rd grade, so I have had a LOT of glasses in my life. I put up with old, outdated glasses for 2 years and kept seeing cool glasses on everybody I saw. I was tired of my red pair, plus my vision changed for the worse, so it was high time. I did some sleuthing and came across Spex. When I went into the stylish store I was warmly greeted by Brandi, and she took me by the hand and started pulling glasses off the racks. It felt like "Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match...find me a find ...catch me a catch..." Brandi made me feel ever-so-at home, offered me coffee and we were off and running. I probably tried on about 50 pair of glasses, and I knew for sure one pair I wanted (or kind of what I wanted...framelesss like Stephen Colbert so I could take them off and look really cool and serious the way he does) and I was wide open on what I wanted the other pair to look like. Funny how the very first pair of framed glasses were the ones I ended up with, but then we tricked them out with lenses that darken in the light (can't remember what they are called) and the Brandi thought of some other adjustments that I hadn't thought of (like polishing the frameless ones) and I was so excited to get my new glasses! A week went by and Brandi called to say that the glasses were ready and they just completely blew me awya. Both pairs are perfect, funky and, best of all, I can see again! So, OK....I dropped $1800 on 2 pair of glasses, but the frameless ones will never go out of style, and the other ones I will have for at least 10 years so I was really psyched. They gave me a bunch of freebies: fantastic cases, special wipes, lens cleaner AND a coupon for a free haircut! I am very devoted to my hair stylus, but my hair is pretty straight-forward, so that will save me $50 the next time I need a trim. They also carry a line of hair care stuff that I hadn't heard of before, so I had to get some, and I am looking forward to my free cut. I guess the science behind having a hair salon/eye glass place is so they can do the "total" look, and I think that's a cool concept more

Great Shop! 1/4/2006

EXCELLENT!! doctor with all latest computer equipments. Very classy. The retail eye glass is bit high end, but the doctor is very good. Truly one of the best caring and thorough. more

Spex salon 8/17/2005

I got my first good (and reasonably priced) haircut at Spex salon. They are relatively easy to book, they offered me a beer or glass of wine when I walked in the door, and I was at ease the entire time. They use Bumble and Bumble products, which I love, so I was a happy girl! more
