I just moved back after being gone a year to find out that Sparrow is closed and replaced with a horrible horrble pizza place.............what in the world happened! Pros: Eve...

Worst

I am in SHOCK! 12/22/2008

Nancy, please open another!!! Sparrow is sadly closed 5/8/2008

To those of you reading these reviews, Sparrow is no longer open. Pros: Everything was wonderful especially the great staff Cons: It's closed... that is a major con! more

Not as advertised - everything too salty!! 1/20/2008

Visiting from the east coast, we were told to check out Sparrow. From reading some of these reviews, we expected a stellar experience. However, we were more than disappointed. First, because there was practically no one in there, the hostess was our waitress and was very difficult to find - mostly she was at the bar clear at the other end of the restaurant. more

unprofessional 1/12/2008

I've been going to Sparrow for about a year now and Im never disappointed with the food or the service. Pros: great food and presentation, great service!!! Happy hour is a good deal! Cons: Drunk and rude owner more

Very Good & Clean 1/1/2008

Excellent atmosphere and food 11/16/2007

My husband and I ate here last weekend, and it was fabulous! We were able to have a very relaxing, unrushed dinner, and the food was exceptional. The service was a tiny bit spotty, but the great food and atmosphere completely made up for that. We also enjoyed the diverse crowd. Highly recommend it! Pros: great food, atmosphere, location Cons: service is kind of slow more

Tweet, Tweet, Find Another Place to Eat. 11/3/2007

Sparrow restaurant couldn't be more appropriately named. Considering the miniscule portions in relation to the prices, this is not a place I'd return to. The ambiance was nice but very, very noisy. The service was mediocre at best. I had the expectation of spending an evening with great food and friends. I still have the friends. The great food will have to wait for another place and time. more

A happy, delicious, incredible time!!!! 10/8/2007

Went to Sparrow after reading the great reviews on Citysearch and was thoroughly impressed. The decor was beautiful and the hostess was rock solid! We were seated with no wait and our waitress was genuinely smiley. Ordered the veal and was just melt in your mouth incredible. Also tasted the mussels (a ton of mussels for an app) and the lamb lollipops - both incredibly healthy portions for apps. The back patio is just where it's at. Met the owners and the bar manager and everyone was just so nice and genuinely happy. Will be back!!! Happy birthday to our waitress. And Nancy, GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: All the smiles, the food, the PRICE!!! Cons: ____________________________ more

Well, at least you have atmosphere 9/9/2007

I recently found Sparrow nestled in a quant neighborhood blocks from the downtown area. It looked fabulous, and due to its location, I expected a warm genuine dining experience. At first it seemed to be what I was looking for. We began our meal with a beautiful arugala salad perfectly dressed. Amazing rustic bread that was still warm. As the night became later, patrons at the bar wearing afixiated plastic assesories inturrupted my easy dinner conversation with loud laughter each time they frequented the bathroom. Finally, our bouilliabase (I will now attempt to critique what I cannot spell) came on an enormous plate that our table could not accomidate with the bread, water and wine (wine list is so-so, server made excellent recommendation). The calimari entirely lost its texture since it had been drown too long, and it was as though they added extra salt to the seafood dish. Hmm.... It won't be my new favorite place. Service was good, but not great... Server seemed nervous and didn't seem to like working there. Overall, too pretentious for Denver, and too cowtown for New York. Nice interior design. Pros: atmosphere Cons: pretentious more

Like New York 9/5/2007

Having just moved to Colorado from Chicago, I've hard a hard time finding a cool place to hang my hat...that is until I stumbled across Sparrow last week. Sophisticated, sleek, relaxed, chic, warm and welcoming. It feels like a restaurant in New York. Food was great, not fancy. Drinks were strong and interesting. Service, everything it should be. I'll be back again and again. Pros: Cool and relaxed more

hopes dashed 7/23/2007

Was in town for a wedding and after looking at the website and reading the reviews we thought this was the ideal eatery for us to enjoy on a Friday night. The best word to describe this restaurant is ""mediocre"" everything about this place is so-so. The cocktails, appetizers, and the entrees were all very subpar. To give you a example, I ordered the bouillabaise for dinner and in my experience this was the worst bouillabaise I had. Thay should actually call this dish cioppino instead. Also, like some of the other reviews stated the service was slow and unattentive to our needs. In the end, I'll just put this down as a learning experience. Pros: spacious Cons: service and food more

BEST HAPPY HOUR IN TOWN 7/10/2007

DRIVING DOWN 7TH AVE I NOTICED THE HAPPY HOUR SIGN AT SPARROW AND HAD TO CHECK IT OUT. JEEZ, 2 FOR 1 DRINKS AND 2 FOR ONE ENTREES. SO I GOT A COUPLE OF COCKTAILS AND A FEW OF THESE LITTLE TAPAS THINGS THEY DO AT THE BAR, AND I WAS ALL SET. FUN, FRIENDLY, GREAT ATMOSPHERE. I'LL BE BACK WITH A BUNCH OF FRIENDS. Pros: FRIENDLY SERVICE Cons: NOT OPEN MONDAYS more

So much for good service... 6/27/2007

I had high hopes going here for dinner for my birthday - my husband chose it for me and surprised me. I had wanted to dine at Sparrow for ages. We went at 7:30 on a Tuesday night. Upon entering, the hostess was on the phone for a few minutes, but sat us when she hung up. Turns out she was our waitress too. Said she'd be right back with water...I wouldn't call it right back, but not a travesty. Next, we ordered two glasses of prosecco. There was ONE prosecco by the glass on the menu, plus a 375ml split. She came back with two splits (equivalent to an entire bottle of prosecco, not two glasses). After an 'oops' but no real explaination, we settled on splitting the split rather than starting over. We ordered appetizers at this point. They came within a reasonable time and were absolutely delicious. The faro and arugula salad was wonderful, and the tuna and watermelon ceviche was out of this world. We then ordered a bottle of wine. And waited. And waited. And waited. And it never came, nor did she return. It was obvious that they were short staffed, but our waitress didn't even mention it (setting expectations on that kind of thing would be key to keeping your diners happy or at least not incredibly annoyed). We finally went to her and asked for the check, paid and left. I'd like to give it another shot sometime as the food was good, but it's not that high on my list to bother with. Pros: Food, ambience Cons: Service!!! more

ROMANTIC! OUTSTANDING MENU! 5/27/2007

Menu changes so that it stays fresh and interesting. They have something for everyone. They serve up not only ?foodie? food but the best dang burgers in this town. Not a bad table in this lovely romantic restaurant. Service is impeccable. Creative cocktails. Service is so nice. This owner actually gets it! Thanks> you are the best!!!! Pros: LOVELY. This place has it all. Cons: No cons. more

Great Place for Dinner 10/17/2006

I went here last week and had the salad and calamari. I have never had thick slices of calamari before....AMAZING! more

Best in the city! 9/20/2006

First impressions are everything and when you walk into Sparrow the ambiance says it all. It is an amazingly beautiful space yet still comfortable & extremely cozy. The service (extremely friendly & knowledgable but not pushy) and food (we had apps, entrees and dessert and I think every course outdid the one before) completely backed it up. I had no idea Sparrow had been open for 2 years. Since I have sent my business partners, friends and family and all have been equally impressed. This is now on my list of weekly stops! Pros: service, menu & ambiance Cons: very busy more

An unforgetable experience! 9/18/2006

Perhaps the worst dining experience we have ever had! The wait staff here is nearly non existent, and the food terrible. We waited for our dinners for over an hour only to be disappointed when it arrived. Pros: nice area of town Cons: terrible place to eat more

So disapointed 9/11/2006

A group of friends and I went to Dinner at Sparrow, to celebrate a Birthday party. Two of us were vegetarian, to which they had one salad to offer. The Waiter said the chef could create something special, not on the menu for us so we thought ... great! We waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, and it was veggies on a plate, with a salad ... and I believe they charged us $15 for this little plate of greens. Another person in the group has food allergies, and requested that his dish have NO peas, carrots or lettuce on it. Well, you know it did have all 3. Another person ordered the fish (mahi mahi I think), and after 45 minutes, got a plate of mussels delivered instead. He decided to not make a big deal of it since we waited so long. Sadly to say, he was sick all night from the mussels. more

What a wonderful meal! 8/22/2006

My husband and I went to Sparrow last night to celebrate my new job. The waitress and other staff could not have been friendlier - they were just wonderful. My husband and I shared a large haystack goatcheese salad (it was melt in your mouth delicious), the artichoke with crab fondue (good, but probably our least favorite of the items we ordered), the tapas trio (very large portions for tapas; the tapas trio could serve as a meal for one person), and the cod entree (this was exceptional - perfectly flavored and cooked). We shared the chocolate bombe for dessert. It was served with a turkish coffee mousse, which was unexpected and extremely tasty. We'll be back. Pros: decor/ambiance, waitstaff, some perfect dishes Cons: expect to be there awhile - great food takes time more
