Graduation Party Worthy! 9/23/2010

My first experience came in February 2010. Saturday night, 6pm, packed; standing room in the back with 20 minute wait. The norm for a Saturday night ANYWHERE you go in San Antonio. Luckily, I was with just 1 friend, so we were seated immediately. more

Best Pizza in Town 5/7/2010

I've eaten at Sorrento's pretty much since they opened and have tried a variety of things on their menu. While I enjoy most of their items, I'm writing this specifically about their pizza. If you are in need of a good pie I would certainly recommend you give them a shot. Pros: Incredible crust, great toping choices, not too cheesy Cons: None to speak of more

Good Food and kid friendly 2/9/2010

Very good food and I was definitely impressed by the volume of tables our waitress handled. I would eat there again. more

Great Food For The Last 5 Years (at least) 11/24/2009

Update - 7/1/10 - Quality/value seems to be more erratic over the last quarter or so. Making it 4 stars instead of five. Pros: Great food - particularly the sauces more

Great Family Place 9/26/2009

Intimate 09 italian restaurant with great food and friendly service. Its a family owned small business with several generations working there. It has consistent food quality. Others complain about the service...however my family especially the kids rave about the service. The demand for carry out and dining in reflects an opportunity for the owners to consider a bit larger location. But don't lose the intimate atmosphere that makes it a great place for the locals. Pros: Food and Service Cons: Small Restaurant more

RUDE RUDE RUDE STAFF 9/20/2009

If everyone that works here hates their jobs so much I wish they'd just quit! I have gone 4 times now thinking I just got the isolated bad service and things will get better but they don't. I think everyone here is related, there was a mom grandma and kids working, and they must be the sorriest family in town. HOW MUCH DOES A SMILE AND GOOD ATTITUDE COST??? I won't be back. Pros: Convenient Location Cons: Bad attitude of everyone who works here! more

Terrible Service, Terrible Wait 7/16/2009

Don't not go to Sorrento Pizza for lunch lunch thinking you'll get your pizza in time - they took one hour to make a cheese pizza. When I complained about the wait, the staff offered only excuses. Unfortunately, I didn't have all day to wait for my food, so I left hungry. Pros: Nice soft drinks, but overpriced. Cons: You'll wait forever for your food. more

Horrible Customer Service From Owner 6/16/2009

Just mentioned something didn't taste "right" Pros: Use to be Excellent! Cons: Recipes are weird and don't dare question anything!!! more

Perfection 6/12/2009

I've been going to Sorrento for years and have never once had a problem that wasn't fixed or taken care of. I work in the industry and am always satisfied with my food quality and ticket time. I've eaten all over and never had a better veal parm. more

Watch out 7/31/2008

My husband and I went the other day. We have been before, the food is okay but service is horrid. After he nearly ate a metal shard that was baked into the pizza crust we alerted the waiter. Apologies accepted and we were told the pizza would be removed from our bill... not so. The one slice with the metal shard was removed but not the whole thing. Okay so what, it's twelve bucks, but it's really a matter of principle and doing the right thing. If it had been my restaurant and I served a paying customer a dangerous metal shard in their food I would totally comp the whole meal and hope they would come back. Needless to say we aren't returning. Much better Italian food in San Antonio with better customer service than Sorrento. Sorry. more

A must in San Antonio 3/20/2008

It's a must everytime I'm in San Antonio. Great food, great service and I love the family-owned atmosphere. Pros: Food, Service Cons: none more

Worse than eating at a chain restaurant! 10/7/2007

Oh my GOD...is there anywhere else with worse service and disgusting Italian food!? I'm Italian myself and this is a far cry from authentic. My advice.....stick with the pizza and stay away from anything else-most of all, the milk they call fettuccini is DISGUSTING! The cherry topper.......the service is a nightmare. Pros: Nothing Cons: food more

Terrible food and service 7/2/2007

We went to Sorrento's Saturday night, expecting what the reviews suggested - great Italian food. What we got was bad service, bad food and a bad taste in our mouths. We were seated right away, no problem but our waitress took a while to show up. They weren't that busy when we arrived around 7pm. When she did show up, she took our drink order and asked us if we were ready to order. What? I guess because it took her 15 minutes to show up, we should have been ready to order. She neglected to offer any of the specials they had on the board (strike number 2) so we decided to try the Zuppa de pesce and a caesar salad with chicken. The caesar salad was tasteless, the chicken on it had no seasoning and even if we had been offered freshly ground black pepper on it, that wouldn't have helped the flavor. I could have gotten something better as Wendy's and not spent $10 on a salad. The Zuppa di pesca was truly awful and I have had that dish many places all over the country (it is a favorite and usually well done). Every piece of seafood was tough. In addition, the sauce was unusually watery, not very spicy (although, spicy is hard to get just right for everyone's palate) and I was not offered a bowl for the shells. When she finally came back to our table she just assumed I wanted it boxed up because I hadn't eaten any of it. She never asked how things were. When I complained, she agreed to take it off the ticket but she didn't offer me any alternative. She said, I"ll get your check and that was it. We paid for the salad even though it too was awful and our drinks. No manager showed up to apologize, no offer of maybe an alternative dish or coffee and dessert instead. It wasn't like I wouldn't have paid for another dish, I just didn't want to have to pay for one that was awful. She just rushed us out for some reason without trying to make it right. Obviously, they didn't want our business. Maybe their pizza is the best but I suggest getting to go, if you get it at all. Pros: Not anything I experienced was pro about this place in food, attitude or customer service. more

Terrible Service 5/7/2007

I went to Sorrento's for lunch today due to other recommendations. I was really turned off by the terrible service. I used to be a waitress back in college so I am understanding but this waitress was terrible. First, she acted as if she was in this big rush and we (my co-worker and I) were in her way. So we were initially going to get separate small pizzas but she said that it makes sense to get a medium or large with split toppings. So that is what we did. I got veggies on one side for myself and my co-worker got meat on her side. When the pizza comes, it was all mixed. She said that she accidentally didn't mark her ticket for the chef so they mixed them all up. She said "Is this ok?" I was like "No, I don't eat meat." She said " Well, I can ask them to make another pizza," and I said "No, we have to get back to work, it's our lunch hour." All she said was "Sorry." So then my co-worker said "Can we at least get a discount?" and she was like "No, my manager doesn't do things like that." So I asked to to speak to the manager. She comes back and said that she can give us a $5 discount. I was so ticked off. I had to take all the meat off of my pizza and she didn't see anything wrong with it. It seemed to me that they weren't making any money to keep the business going so they had to charge us. I have to say that the pizza was good but it is unfortunate that bad customer service turned me away indefinitely and probably others once I spread the word. Word of mouth is the best form of marketing, good or bad. more

Best Pizza in TX 6/13/2006

All the food is excellent but the pizza is why I try to go at least once a week. Bornj and raised on Philadelphia where there is no shortage of good pizza. Moved to San Antonio and could find a decent pie anywhere. Finally found Sorrento's and I am addicted. As good or better than the pizza i grew up on in the northest. Authentic NY style pizza cooke in real pizza ovens (not a conveyer belt)!! There are probably 20 pizza places within a ew miles of my house but I still drive 30 minutes each way once a week to get the best. Pros: Excellent food. Great Prices. Ample parking (in Cons: Not open Sunday more

Favorite Restaurant in San Antonio 4/9/2006

After growing up in Europe I was hard-pressed to find an authentic Italian place in San Antonion till a friend took me to Sorrentoes!! Their Cappalini alla Gino is to die for!! Also, their pizza is the most authentic you can find this side of the Atlantic! They dont always keep reservations, but most weekdays you'll only wait like 5 minutes for a table! The staff is very friendly as long as you are friendly to them (VERY italian!!). Definitly recommend it to anyone! more

Best Italian in town 10/7/2005

By far the best italian food in town. When you compare it to anywhere else in town for the price it is unbeatable. Perfect pizza, delicious eggplant, and wonderful pasta "gino". Great family atmosphere. more

Authentic New York Italian c/o Gino 6/20/2005

Authentic New York Italian flavor, direct from NYC. It's not fancy, but the food is to die for. Great putanesca sauce. Mouth watering pizzas, where even the left overs are as good as fresh. My favorite Italian spot in SA, and I've lived in NYC, DC, SF, Honolulu, Seoul, San Diego, and Atlanta. Try it, you'll be dying to go back the next day. Pros: Food, Pizza, Fountain Cons: A bit cramped, when crowded more
