Great AUTHENTIC Thai Food 12/20/2008

This place is AMAZING. I have traveled to Thailand and it has just ruined my Thai dining here in LA cause nothing compares to Thai food in Thailand. But Sompun brings it home for me. The MeeKrob is amazing and you have to try the Firey Beef Salad. It is the same thing as Larb, but with beef slices instead of ground beef. My friend took me to this place and I fell in love with it instantly. It is not a posh type of restaurant. It is in a cute old house that feels like a type of place you would go to in Thailand. This is as authentic you will get. Little hard to find and don't be mistaken for the Thai restaurant that is a block away. The service was great. I live in the Valley and was so excited to see that they have a location in Studio City. I plan on being a regular there. Pros: Service, Food more

Best Thai Secret 12/9/2008

Cat is out of the bag. Sompun is the jewel of Thai restaurants. Excellently prepared food and a huge menu. Pros: One of the best Thai spots in L.A. more

A Thai place that will call you back 10/21/2008

I just dined here after a day @ Griffith Observatory and before heading to the Pantages. What a GREAT find! The atmosphere was serene and quaint. The service... fantastic with friendly servers. The food... mouth watering, fresh and tasty. The price.. very reasonable! I will definitely return many a time to this family owned business! more

Hidden Gem on the Eastside! 1/11/2007

Sumpun is my new favorite Thai spot. So what if it doesn't have the ambiance that Rambutan has, the food is amazing, and their outside patio is very charming. more

Yummy Thai Food 11/28/2005

The dish to get here is Kao Soi, which is a sweet curry soup with noodles. It's the perfect comfort food, and you can have it with meat or with tofu (which is what I had). I believe there are only a handful of restauarants in LA that serve Kao Soi because it's specific to a certain region in Thailand. This is THE place to go to get it. My husband and I come here all the time. Pros: Delicious food, Decent prices, Easy street parking Cons: Modest indoor decor more

Cozy, intimate dining. Fantastic food. 6/16/2005

Sompun has long been a neighborhood favorite of mine for a number of years. The variety of Thai dishes is great and the food is fantastic. The food is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very quaint. Many a time I've enjoyed eating in the backyard garden, where I've savored panang tofu with brown rice and finished off my meal with fried bananas and coconut ice cream. The service is warm and friendly. Great for small, intimate special occasions. (I've had many a birthday celebration here.) PROS: Choice of brown AND white rice. Great selection for veggies and meat eaters CONS: more

This place is great 2/16/2005

I have been dining at Sompun for probably 15 years and I have never had a bad meal there...great Thai home cooking, more authentic than many Thai restaurants, but still accomodating to the "gringo" palate. I especially love the Fiery Beef Salad and the boneless chicken wings...they have great sauces and if you go, ask for the "green sauce usually served with seafood" and they'll make it for you...it's great...the only negative I have for this place is the wine...they need a better house wine, including a white zinfandel or rose. PROS: Just great, fresh home cooking! CONS: Better selection and quality of house wine more

Diamond in the Ruff 11/12/2002

The food here is great. Try almost anything on the menu and you cant go wrong. Ive tried all my favorites from other places and this place tops them all. This place looks small and the neighborhood looks a little scarce, however this is what is considerd a diamond in the ruff. Try it yourself. Pros: The food, The Price, The Friendly Service Cons: Little Parking more

thailandhas come to l.a. 7/29/2002

this restaraunt has the most magnificent tasty foods. the selection is totally outrageous, so many items to choose from. i have been dining at this restaurant since 1986. either i or my husband go at least once a month or i and a group of work friends dine at this restaurant and everyone is thrilled with the service, speed, all foods, drinks and atmosphere and the owners are very kind. Pros: fresh, fresh, fresh, owners-very kind, family-run more
