The first time I went to this place I loved it. I was impressed with the food, service, decor, and music. However this was when they first opened. I went back with a friend super ...

Great for Drinks and apps (food was blah) 8/28/2008

Soooo.... I heard so many great things about this place that I had to try with my bf. I'm guessing I might have caught them on a bad night...lol. For the most part this place is an awesome environment if you are looking for somewhere lively to dine. From the live salsa (with dancers as well) to the great ambiance and drinks (try the ppl mojito or the lean back; bf loved it) you can't go wrong. However everything I ordered (pernil, tostones w/shrimp and watercress salad) besides the chicken empanada (yum) was either dry or bland. With this being said, I still plan on returning because the atmosphere is so fun and inviting and besides its hard to find a hip salsa place in the city. Bottom line, go to Sofrito's if you want to drink, dance and eat yummy empanadas! Pros: Live music, modern decor, great drinks, waiter hacked off shared plate fee! Cons: over priced for avg food. more

Not so great. 8/11/2008

This is a cool place to go to have drink and enjoy the music. I went with two other people. None of us enjoyed our meals. We all agreed that the food wasn't all that great especially for the price. We could have stayed in the bronx and received the same quality food at a cheaper price. The restaurant looks great, the service was good, the band/music was good although happy birthday was played ten times in the hour that we were there. But we went there for the ""great food"" and didn't get it. Unless there is a new chef i doubt we will be going back. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: very pricey for average food. more

BEAUTIFUL PLACE, ENJOY IT VERY MUCH. 8/4/2008

Yesterday my boyfriend and I went to this place. At first i was skeptical because I read some of the reviews but i still wanted to see for myslef. It was our first anniversay and why not!. Im glad i did, I lOVED it.. i really did. The decor is amazing, the color scheme and layout is good. The staff are super friendly, and very pleasant. You have the live band playing typical puerto rican music throughout the whole night. I order the mojitos, there pretty strong in my opioion but very good. The food. all i can say YUM-O..It was scrumbious.. The price was kinda pricey but worth every penny of it. I would go back again and you should see for yourself. Pros: Its in the city... Cons: We did have to wait like a good 30mins to be seated. more

food was great, wait and staff, not so great. 6/30/2008

Went to visit this so-called ""great"" restaurant a few weeks ago called Sofritos but found the place to be no more than just another place to eat and drink. Of course, with the experience that we had, that's the taste we got. Pros: food was great, once we finally sat down after close to 5 hours of waiting.. Cons: wait time, staff(some), not worth it. more

Too Loud and Crouded 6/30/2008

The only thing good about Sofrito is it's name. Waiting time was about Pros: The food is good and portions are large. Cons: Unprofessional Service more

A GREAT DATE SPOT OR GIRLS NITE OUT 6/24/2008

Guaranteed to get your money's worth. I had the grouper but I wouldn't recommend it because it had no flavor. They have this drink called the ""lean back"" and trust me after you've had one of those you will definitely be leaning back. The grouper aside I plan on going back.... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!! more

LOVED IT!! 5/22/2008

Just came back from Sofrito restaurant.. and can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed my time here with my friends. The place was beautiful, the staff was amazing, and the food???? how would i describe it???? It tastes as your favorite food from the childhood with the restaurant's touch. The portions are huge. Just amazing. The wait for a table was a bit long, but worth of waiting. Don't blame them. I came with a group of 5 people, at 7:00 PM on a Friday night. Many families were there before me, so you just have to be patient. We didn't care to wait, because they have the nicest bar in NYC. Good job Sofrito!! I am not Puerto-Rican, but I surly enjoyed the Latino atmosphere. Pros: food, drinks (mohito), staff more

""Reservations"" 1/26/2008

Definitely a place to go on a blind date...you'll be in and out in an hour. Last night, I had a birthday dinner reservation for 18 guests and it was a nightmare. For starters, it seems like the main hostess and staff, need a refresher ""course"" in customer service. The ambience was loud and packed where it took forever to get to the bathroom...and the place is already small. The main hostess udely informed us that we had a time limit on our dinner stay. The waiter were like seagulls waiting to clear off our plates, without even allowing us to finish our meals. Food was mediocre, drinks were pricey, and the customer service...well Denny's would earn 4 stars in comparison to Sofrito. Ah..and another thing that needs to be mentioned, be warned if you bring a cake to dinner. Sofrito's policy for allowing you to cut your own cake is $3 dollars for each slice cut for your guests...hmm..must be a new policy in the restaurant business. Reservations is definitely something to have before planning on dining at this restaurant. And I am not referring to the actual hold on a time slot to dine there, rather the sense of ""reservations"" one must have in accordance to Merriam-Webster's negative defnition of the word itself...doubts..and holding back before risking the experience of dining there. Pros: Lighting Cons: Service, food, ambience, parking more

Incredible Website, Food, Drinks, Management and People. 11/16/2007

Who would ever think that a vison would be taken this far. From the website all the way to the desserts.. even until when we were leaving, the experience was incredible. Management came by our table to make sure we were all okay. The service impeccable. The suited folks behind the bar shows class and were all very attentive. I must say im impressed. Definately will come back. Visit the place but before you go prepare yourself and checkout the coolest website (sofritony) this will just get your palatte wet. Thank you Sofrito. Pros: EVERYTHING more

Misleading 11/8/2007

First of all....ROPA VIEJA AND EMPANADAS ARE NOT PUERTORICAN FOOD!! Mojitos are also a CUBAN DRINK. I will agree that the food is good here and the staff is freindly, but it is by no means an authentic Puerto Rican Restaurant. Pros: food is good Cons: not authentic more

Great service and great food! 6/12/2007

I just returned from my first trip to NYC and was in the mood for some Puerto Rican food. I found this place on CitySearch and read the reviews. I will agree with everyone who said this food was good, as it was some of the best tasting food I have ever had! However, some of the reviews stated that the service was bad and slow. This was not the case in our experience! We we greeted promptly and were treated with great respect and given great attention to make sure we were happy and our expectations were met. The service is great and the food is even better. A must for any Puerto Rican food fan! Pros: Food and Service... and the mojitos! more

yummy food, nice music and lots of hot guys 3/15/2007

I went to Sofrito with a couple of friends last week.....the Ambiance was great...The food was even better.....but I think the highlight of my nite was the eye candy........that place has the HOTTEST.......... manager my eyes have ever seen........wow I think i need to go back just to get another view.........the service was awesome........ highly recommended ........ Pros: hot men .....yummy food:) Cons: hole in the wall more

VIP Treatment 3/13/2007

VIP Treatment from the moment we walked in the door till the time we left the restaurant. My friends and I walked in for the first time and were amazed by the service. We were seated relatively quickly and before entering the dinning area, the manager took our coats and checked them. Everyone had a smile and was genuinely nice to our party. The food was delicious and the waiter was so attentive. There was a live salsa band playing while we were dining and the flan was the talk of the night. This is a great place to take someone and introduce them to Puerto Rican cuisine while enjoying the modern/ fine ambiance. Pros: Their Service and Flan more

Food was Excellent, Service was very rushed! 3/3/2007

Thiswas my first time visiting this restaurant. I attended for a Birthday party of a friend. We all had a wonderful time. The atmoshere was very nice and relaxing. The food was great but the service was very rushed. All thought they accomadated us for a Friday evening I feel they should of let us relaxed without pushing us away so fast being that they did make a huge amount of money on our party. We had to eat of dessert in the lounge area. The mojitos were good but they can hold back on soooooooo many mint leaves. I felt like I was drinking a tree with alcohol. Besides that I recommend this restaurant and would definetly return. The food is very tasty and seasoned well. The pernil is out of this world not to mention it looks as if they serve you a half pernil. The paella is also a very good dish. If you're looking for some good Puerto Rican Cuisine then I would recommend you try Sofritos. Pros: Food Cons: Rushed Service more

So much fun!! 2/15/2007

This place is amazing! i had such a good time from the time i entered to the time i left. Everyone is so kind and friendly and energetic! They make you feel so comfortable. The food is sooo delicious! It really is Puerto Rican cuisine...The pernil.. arroz con gandules, the sancocho! Sofrito really is an amazing restaurant. After my party ate dinner we hung out at the bar because the music was so good, and everyone was dancing! the drinks were so good (try the mojitos and sangria!!) Overall my experience at Sofrito was very pleasurable. I already made reservations for next weekend!! you should too! more

Most Happenin' Puerto Rican Cuisine Restaurant in NYC!!! 2/12/2007

Sofritos is the best thing that has happened to mid-town Manhattan in years, especially if you are looking for great food, music, a loungy atmosphere, good looking people, and a warm welcome. The food is hands down the best Puerto Rican Cuisine in Manhattan, and I have been to practially all of them! A few things that stand out are the Mofongo con Camarones, Fried Red Snapper, Roast Pork, Mussels in White Wine sauce, and the Pepper Steak! The specialty drinks are fantastic, especially the Passion Fruit Cosmo. I love this place and recommend you give it a try. They are busiest Friday and Saturday nights but if you don't want to deal with crowds, Monday thru Wednesday is perfect! Pros: The Food, Decor, Atmosphere, Cons: Wait Staff (sometimes) more

Worst Bar/Lounge/Club in New York City and A Classless Manager 12/29/2006

I went to Sofrito with some friends last night, and opened a tab. When I tried to close it, I was told my credit card was misplaced, and would get it back in 5 minutes. The 5 minutes quickly turned to an hour, and during the time I was made to feel by the manager that I was a nuisance because I asked if there was any update on trying to find my card -- in fact a bouncer actually came over and told us to leave and wait for the card at home if we were not going to buy anymore drinks. Cons: They lose credit cards, and the manager is classless. more

WOW !!! Check out the Manager 12/21/2006

I was there a few weeks ago with a large group of my friends during the Thanksgiving Holidays, and from the time we walked in, to the time we left, it was a very pleasurable experience. Being from L.A. I am quite a critic when it comes to lounge type restaurants. The drinks were fabulous and the food was great. However people, the most enjoyable part of the night was the manager Iman. Very helpful, courteous, and most of all Gorgeous !!!!! Pros: Food and drinks Cons: A little slow with food service more

THE PUERTO RICAN CUISINE! 12/4/2006

Fantastico! Finally, a Puerto Rican Real Restaurant. Pros: Ambience, long bar, Service, great food, music. Cons: no parking more

lack of service 12/4/2006

I went to Sofritos for the first time with my husband this weekend and everthing started out all right untill we sat down. It seems as if the floor is ran by chaos. Get better management on the floor and the place will be worth going back. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was delightful. As for the service...Well it was no where in the room. Pros: taste and price Cons: floor management more
