When we purchased our home from Smithbilt, they said they'd have a community pool. Well, that never happened. Pros: Nice Quilty Homes Cons: Lied About Pool

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/24/2013

We have a GREAT Smithbilt home and had a GREAT buying experience. The agents took the hassle out of everything for us and all the deadlines were met for us to move in. We loved working with everyone from Smithbilt and they have never hesitated to help us with any questions about HOA, the house, appliances or anything else we couldn't figure out. We have had ZERO problems with our new house and have been living here for almost a year. I can tell walking through other homes now that my home is a WELL BUILT house. No creaks or cracks, everything is near perfect :) I would definitely recommend a Smithbilt home! more

Smithbuilt builds ""SHOTTY"" houses 12/10/2010

If you buy a newly built house from Smithbuilt, take alot of time and go over everything with a fine tooth comb - making a list of questionable things BEFORE YOU CLOSE! My shower/tub leaked twice - they never fixed it. My kitchen island counter was 3"" too far toward the living room, causing my carpet of the living room not to meet the linoleum of the kitchen with a straight line (looks really stupid) - the Smithbuilt foreman (Steve) lied to me and told me it was suppose to be that way (until I looked at a neighbor's house with the same kitchen) and his was right! My roof was leaking around the soffets/overhangs above my patio door. The exterior wall on the right side of my house has no insulation - when the wind blows, I can feel the breeze close to the base boards in certain spots. I tried to get it all fixed, but they kept delaying it until my 1 year warranty ran out. I then complained to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Their houses look nice, but be careful..............I can guarantee that there are some hidden problems that they won't fix after you close. The Foreman will lie to your face, over and over again! more

Poor Quality- Expensive Repairs Needed 9/29/2010

I purchased a resale Smithbilt home and have been continually shocked by the poor quality. Leaky imporperly installed door sill with repairs, quote at over $5000 to repair, shoddy wiring in the bathroom light fixtures that I will have to have fixed, nails in pipes when drywall was hung that have rusted through and caused water damage, moulding stuck on with filler that is drying out causing moulding to fall off, cut outs around fixtures and sockets made too big and filled with putty that are, you guessed it drying out. I am going to spend a good deal of money trying to get all this fixed. If you have any question about Smithbilt ""quality"" message me and you can come judge for yourself. I have spoken to Smithbilt about this and their response was they would not stand behind it and they sell enough houses not to worry about their reputation. more
