Best

WOW Smart Tan is officially my new favorite tanning salon I don't think id ever switch up , I started off level 1 & worked my way up which gave my self the opportunity to try diff...

Worst

Awesome place to go tanning! Best and safest beds in the area that give you great color! The staff is very friendly and helpful. I 100% recommend going to smart tan.

high school kids run this joint 8/25/2008

wow, this place regularly opens at least 2 hours late. it is soooo disorganized, the staff has some major attitude problems, they rarely answer the phone, the lines get VERY long 4 no reason, and nearly everything they advertise is a scam - there is an exception 2 EVERYTHING. Please be cautious!!!!!\r Pros: they got 2 good beds Cons: VERY EXPENSIVE!! disorganized, few beds, long lines, attitude and pressure from staff more

RUDE owner, totally disrespectful. Dumb employees. Stay away! 7/21/2008

I went to the smart tan location in Wellesley, which is owned by the same guy. The employees did not change the sanitary covers in the room between customers and I had to ASK the girl to give me a new cover for the lotion applicator, and then she told me she was WAY behind. I got a nasty rash from the tanning beds and when I called to request a refund only for my remaining sessions, the guy was extremely rude and told me that I should send him a doctor's note, which I did. When I didn't hear a response, I called and he was rude yet again, wouldn't give me my refund, and hung up on me. TERRIBLE customer service. I am disgusted. Cons: Nothing good to say! more

Clean and Nice, but VERY high prices 11/13/2007

They have a great website with nice photos of the place. They also had specials and information on the website that hinted at the prices being reasonable. Wrong! The cheapest tan they have is $7.99, and the ""best and safest"" tan is $31.99 (for one visit)...ridiculous! I wasn't offered any specials, no free first tan, no 3 tans for $3, nothing. \r \r While the young lady working there was polite and the place very clean, I'm not sure I will go back. All the cheaper places I've been to were clean, too. I'm not sure what the seating area is for with the bachelor pad couches and fake fireplace. Who is going to hang out at the tanning salon? And where was this workout area advertised on the website? Weird. If the high fees are paying for these extras, I'd rather not have the extras, thank you.\r \r As for all the hooplah in these reviews, I'm suspicious of the reviewers ""defending"" this tanning salon. This is what reviews are for, so the public can share their experiences and information. There doesn't need to be any more than that. Pros: Nice rooms and well kept Cons: Too expensive more

Winner of Best of CitySearch... 9/24/2007

I've been a customer since their opening ~4 years ago and I am not surprised that they have won ""Best Of CitySearch"" the last two years and running...enough said? Pros: Just plan everything more

...a whole new generation of tanning salon 9/24/2007

Just visit the web site to see where the differences begin. The place offers the best in tanning, which means healthier, faster and more comfortable. I guess I'd say the place is as close to perfect as possible. Pros: Winner of Best of Cityseach more

Response to owners response to me. NOT a review. 8/17/2007

This is in response to the owners response to my review I am ""PinkLady44"" I lost my password and my email hasn't been working right.\r I had just found out about city search when I left my review. I didn't get your hours from here I got them from you and they're clearly stated on your door. Not sure if you still do but you once had a sign up telling customers to use the higher level beds. You told me the lower levels were bad for your skin. While I commend you on having price options. I also feel you should have quality equipment for all of your customers. Other salons have great beds just different price packages. The day that you told us to park in the other businesses lot the only people there were me and my two friends who all came in the same car and 1 other customer. The times that I have been there when the TV was on it was videos that looked like music videos. Nothing to do with tanning though they were enjoyable. I wrote my review so you could better your business and so other customers could be made aware of my own personal experience with your business. \r \r In all fairness please know that this is NOT a review [ignore the one star] but a response to the response I was given. My review is titled ""Avoid"". more

Aviod 8/8/2007

I agree with previous reviews about hours. Twice I went to this place an hour or two before they were supposed to close and they were already closed. I felt pressured into doing their higher priced beds. I was told the lower levels were bad for you. I feel it is important to have cheaper options but those options shouldn't be bad for you. I'm also in agreement that some reviews are sounding like advertisements. I watch E more then any other network and not once have I seen anything about extreme tanning or their equipment. The other problem was parking. They advertise plenty of free parking but told me to park in another businesses lot. A good friend of mine worked at that other business and told me that that lot was for their store ONLY. NOT for extreme tanning. I hate to say this because I'd rather post a positive review but this place should be avoided. Pros: Friendly for the most part. A lot of lotion options. Cons: Parking and equipment and hours. more

It's a highend place. 7/12/2007

This place doesn't look like a tanning salon. It looks more like a classy martini bar. I chose to try this place after seeing editorials on their Manhattan and Boston locations on E! entertainment. Most important thing to me was the healthier, safer beds. They have links, copies and videos of medical studies in the salon and on their web site. They clearly show how this technology has been proven by Harvard Medical School to benefit your health, attitude and even skin 30 times more than it poses risk. They call it ""happier, healthier, smarter living"". Count me in...! Pros: to many to list more

Their winning formula has caused the closing of two neighboring salons and the sale of two others... 7/7/2007

It's sad that some people have to abuse the privilege of writing reviews. Anything negative about this place is guaranteed to be from a disgruntled employee(s) or shady competition because this place is first class. I?m in real estate so I know that two neighboring salons has closed down (Arlington Tan & Sunkissed) since this salon opened three years ago, and two others (Sunshine, and Boston Beach Club) have either been turned over or are now up for sale . This Manhatan based company is opening their 8th salon to be located in Wellesley - that's got to tell you something. I don't know them personally but the owners always seem to be there and everyone seems to agree that they're clearly good people. Don?t be fooled by a shady competitor or disgruntled employee. Look at the positive press and great reviews they?ve gotten and try it for yourself. That?s the truth. Pros: Coorperate quality control with ""Mom and Popz"" shop feel... more

Ideal?...Yes! 6/27/2007

If there?s an ideal business then this is it?Pricing: from $3.99-$28.99?Environment: beautifully contemporary and immaculate?Technology: state-of ?the-art, actually much of the same equipment as that new reality show ?Sunset Tan? and the very same model bed that Paris Hilton and all the stars tan in (I know this because I saw it on E! entertainment). Staff: prepared, knowledgeable and friendly (they even did a free skin type analysis on me). Pros: Pricing, Environment, Technology, Staff Cons: got me? so far more

Love it - THREE YEARS AND RUNNING 6/25/2007

I moved to Boston 3 years ago. I live in the North End. I travel about 20+ minutes past several other salons because there is no other salon like this place. See their interesting, educational, and entertaining website and you judge for yourself. Pros: Friendly, professional and the best equipment more

IT'S ALL GOOD... 6/16/2007

Oh my God, I can?t believe the trash that some people write in these things. I agree with my girlfriend, ""lstfort"", who wrote the other review. Someone's got to Get a life! I go there year round and it's absolutely great. You?ve got to be kidding me when you get so upset that your tanning appointment was delayed so you have to run home and tell the world. It?s not a hospital for goodness sake. Pros: You name it... more

Really bad experience; salon inexplicably closed despite an appointment; I won't be going back. 6/3/2007

I had a really bad experience here. I made an appointment a day ahead of time and arrived on a Saturday afternoon to find the store closed with no explanations posted. I called the numbers on the door and reached a man, presumably an owner, who apologized and after calling me back said he would have someone there in a half an hour. I returned after about an hour and still no one was there; after calling the man back he said his worker was 'just down the street' and would be there in 5 minutes. I waited 10 minutes and still no one showed up, so I left. I called the man back to say I wouldn't be using his salon again and although he had been apologetic earlier, this time he didn't answer my call and to this day has not returned the (polite) message I left. This was all surprising as I had used the salon several times before and had found it satisfactory. All in all I wasted several hours of a precious Saturday. Needless to say, not the way to run a business, and I won't be returning. Cons: Totally wasted my Saturday. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 5/5/2007

best place eva..I have gone tannin there since it opened. i have nothing but graet things to say about it.. staff is exellent ,place is clean.. would not go anywhere else!!! Pros: 2 many!! more

So bad no service at all 4/12/2007

This place is a joke don't waste your time! \r \r Having wasted 45 minutes of my life waiting for someone to show up I could think of better ways to not get a tan. Don't ever be the first appointment, from another patron waiting she informed me that the""owner"" is "" always late"" and ""never to get here on time if your appointment is early"". Seriously the service is that bad that people who only visit due to proximity have excepted that they are over priced and have no service skills. After waiting for 45 minutes decided to leave, the only problem was that I was flying in a few hours to go to be a very pale brides maid! The worst part is that no one ever called when they did open, maybe there would have been time for my appointment, who knows! This place is over priced and has the worst level of service I have dealt with. Hopefully their rent won't go up because that is the only reason they have any customers left is due to their location. Pros: Absolutely NONE! Cons: Too Many! more

Terrible Service, Management is a Scam 3/1/2007

I have been to a few other tanning places before, usually signing up for the $___/month unlimited plans. I did the same here, $19.95/mo. unlimited, and went on Tuesday for one of my trips, no problems. Today (3/1/07) I came in and there were signs that changed their policy as of 2/29 to needing to pay in addition to the monthly fee. After calling her manager the service girl told me that I will need to pay and that it was in what I signed. She tried to show me one of their current contracts, so therefore I asked to see my contract with my signature. She looked in the folder and called her manager back to tell me not all the contracts were there and she would have mine for next time. \r \r \r I was not the only one with this problem. There was a girl behind me in line that had been a member at the unlimited level for a number of months longer than, I who had never heard of this new policy. Service girl called the manager and this customer all of a sudden had $20 of bonus money accumulated on her account and she could pay each visit's fee with that. The customer had no idea about this 'bonus money' on her account of course. Management is not to be trusted.\r \r \r Service in general was not good. They have a walkie-talkie system set up in each of the rooms so in case something happens you can just call them so you don't have to get re-dressed. I was almost ready to get in the bed once and realized I forgot my goggles. So I called the walkie-talkie. Three times, no answer. I got re-dressed, called again, and went out to see what was up and get some ""winkies"". The two service girls at the desk were watching TV. I got the ""winkies"", for which I was charged of course, and finished.\r \r Between my two experiences I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone. They are the only tanning salon in the area so they think they can get away with treating their regular customers very badly and we have no option but to go back. I absolutely don't recommend it. Pros: Absolutely None Cons: Service, Management, Attitude more

Everything is great but the pricing. 7/9/2006

I have to say these reviews don't sound like they're from actual customers and were all posted pretty close to each other in dates and sound a like. They sound like ads. I do agree it is a nice place with a lot to offer. Looks great, smells great, nice staff though they could be more knowledgeable on a few things. Only complaints are, I went into their best bed cost about $22.00 for one visit. I found that the much cheaper booths and beds worked much faster for me. I don't like their prices. There are much cheaper places in the area. I also don't like that they use such old pricing techniques. By a membership but pay so much each time you go. I would much rather pay once for the package and just walk in and not have to pay each time like the other tanning places now have. It's been years since i've seen the buy a membership but still pay as you go thing. There pricing is what's keeping me from them. Pros: Gym, Atmosphere, Hours Cons: Prices are a bit high and i'm not fond of the buy membership still pay each tan. more

It's all true... 5/21/2006

I visited this salon after reading the reviews herein. I arrived pessimistic and extra critical after a long day of work. Yet, I found it all to be true! This place is imaculate, high tech, friendly, professional, and very reasonably priced. Take advantage of it because if it's true that all good things will come to an end, then the clock is ticking. Pros: Great Prices, Imaculate, professional more
