Simply Thai Restaurant

OK, I never write these things, and I hate that the one I'm writing is negative, but I have to say I was very disappointed! My food was SOOOOOO overpriced for what arrived. On top of the portions being spartan and mundane, I ordered brown rice and got white, asked to NOT have plastic utensils or napkins - got both - and the whole meal cost over $25 bucks and took over an hour to get here! Sorry - not so sweet. more

I've been to Simply Thai several times over the course of the 15 years I've lived in the neighborhood. The food is decent,a bit over-priced and the owner does have a bit of an attitude. I once stopped by and only wanted a side order of rice to go and the woman just about bit my head off. If you live within walking distance and just have to have Thai food immediately it's fine. Otherwise,there are too many other places to choose from. more

I've been to Simply Thai for both lunch and dinner every week since Feb, 2006. The service they provide is always attentive, helpful and very friendly. Pros: Food, service and atmosphere. Cons: Dont see yet. more

I went for the first and only time for a simple lunch pick up. I ordered the curry, which ended up costing $14 for a meal that hardly filled me up. The food itself was decent, but definately not worth the price. When I told the lady that I wanted the meal to be from the lunch special, she went right into attack mode. I ended up paying for the meal and eating it, but as I left I told her I would never return again, to which she replied ""I don't care."" I had this restaurant cater a business lunch I had... I called in and the lady was very helpful with deciding a menu for the # of people I had to accomodate. Very easy to order, the delivery was on time, and the food was hot and delicious! Got a variety of different dishes, and all of them were yummy! more

There is no shortage of Thai restaurants in LA -- especially in the east side, but after discovering Simply Thai, I have found no reason to go elsewhere. In the three years I've frequented this restaurant, the quality of food and service has never wavered. I've tried most of their main entree dishes and they've all been excellent (my favorites have been the Shrimp Panang, Dark Soy Noodles, Yellow Curry, Prik King and Tom Kha soup). Also, very recently I've become a vegetarian--but this has not hampered my enjoyment of their food. Simply substitute meat dishes for tofu and they're still as tasty as ever--as the key to great thai food lies in the sauces and spices. Not only is the food great, but the decor is terrific and the owner never fails to greet us with a friendly salutation and smile. I actually write this review with a little hesitance, as one of the best things about Simply Thai is that you never need to wait for a table or make a reservation--and part of me is afraid that this would change if the word got out! more

I was first introduced to Thai food several years ago at this restaurant and thanks to Simply Thai I have been a fan ever since. They have excellent Pad Thai and their Panang sauce is perfect...not runny and a little bit spicy. The dinner portions are a little big for me which is great because left over Pad Thai is great for lunch the next day! Speaking of lunch, they have a great selection and price for the lunch menu. I also have to point out the good service and food presentation. Everyone there has a smile and is attentive. The food also looks great when served...I especially like the pyramid of rice! The decor and ambiance in the restaurant are also well done. This is not your typical strip mall Thai place. Simply Thai has a look of elegance and sophistication. This is a great place for a date indeed! Finally, I have to mention the Thai Iced Tea and Green Tea Ice Cream...YUMMY! If you are a fan of Thai food this is the place for you! I am not a huge thai food fan but really enjoyed the dishes I've had here. I have been back several times with small and large parties. Service is always good and the meals are reasonably priced. Their food can be a little spicy, so let the waitress know if you need it toned down a bit. Your face will be sweating for sure. Pros: Friendly, Prompt, Good food Cons: street parking more

As a vegetarian (but I eat eggs), I appreciate that the chefs are always willing to omit fish sauce in any of the veggie dishes. My family and I love the druken noodles, the sauteed spinach in garlic and black bean sauce is out of sight, and the restaurant owner is in there most nights -- so if you have a problem, she can help. Best of all, for the money conscious, they send coupons -- i know, sort of low-class...but really, who wouldn't appreciate saving 10 bucks on a $40 dinner that tastes great! Simply Thai is our favorite Thai restaurant in LA -- and we've been to quite a few. Romantic setting, good staff, delicious food. The first time we ordered the shrimp panang it was stellar...the second time it was mediocre. Pad se ew was tasty, as were the spring rolls & curry pouches (mmmm). The thai iced tea is so-so...but then again, I have a sweet tooth, so others may like it. I have finally found a great Thai restaurant in LA. I've been to a few and they were pretty sad, but this one rocks. The food is very high quality, tates great, authentic, and the owners are amazing - they actually decorated the restaurant themselves! It's a very cozy, aesthetic place to dine - I highly recommend.
