Bad Experience at Shoreline Christian 4/18/2011

I would have to "ditto" everything MomIam wrote before me. In addition, they make all parents sign a "Spanking Waiver" in the enrollment packet that allows the school to spank your children when they misbehave or that you spank your kids when the school asks. I refused to sign this form. more

Best school we have found 10/29/2009

After looking at several child care facilities we first enrolled our son into a montessori school when he was about 20 mos. It was horrible both for me and for him. They were unorganized and had so many kids in the same room that when I would go pick him up they always had to look for him which was extremely disturbing to me. He screamed and cried everyday I dropped him off and it broke my heart. Right then I knew something wasn't right. When we took him out we put him in Shoreline ICC and were very pleased for the following reasons: -He actually looked forward to going to school -teachers are encouraging (and comforting to the children when they are upset) -only 1 teacher per classroom (usually, unless they also have a teacher's aid) -small classes -they have curriculum that they go by each week - monthly email updates of school events and activities - most reasonably priced compared to most other schools -flexible schedules for full or part time -catered lunch and provided snacks more

My daughter loves Shoreline Christian School. 10/1/2009

My daughter has attended Shoreline Christian School for 5 years now. The class sizes are small (about 14 students per teacher) so your child will get personalized attention and not be 'lost in the crowd'. The teachers are caring and have strong educational goals, (my daughter's class is required to use a daily planner to track assignments and which I review). The other students are 'quality kids' from good families, kids you'd like for your child to be friends with, and families you'll get to know at the endless birthday parties there seem to be. The school has really convenient access from the toll road and Mopac, so getting to and from school is easy. Some parents don't know that the school is divided into two parts, (the 'school' is from PreK-4 to 6th grade and has a strong academic focus, and 'ICC' which is instructional child care that approximates a daycare to develop the child's social needs.) Choosing the correct division of the school is important, to ensure you have a more

A little harsh... 6/10/2009

The reviews seem a little harsh...I know that there was a big turnover several years ago when the junior high and high school were eliminated. The student body fell dramatically, and the ICC was added to subsidize the rest of the school. The church is not involved in the school but keeps its name on it. more

This school sucks! 5/18/2009

ICC is a horrible excuse for a daycare. The tuition for a toddler is $835 a month. It includes lunch that my student won't even touch from what the teacher tells me. I could be paying off my mortgage instead of taking my child to this school. I have showed up early to the school to notice that Mrs. S. is still not in the office. What kind of security is that? No one ever knows where my child will be at certain times. No curriculum, different teacher each day when I was told there was going to be a lead teacher for the classes, and too much outside time when they should be learning!!!Please look into stepping stone, primrose, or any other childcare program that won't cost you an arm and a leg for nothing. more

Sadly Disappointed 1/13/2009

My family had high hopes for this school but were greatly disappointed with the program overall. There was absolutely no contact by the Director Penni but did have contact with other staff (yet persistence had to occur on our part). It seems clear to me that as a business. If there is an unhappy customer calling it is the Director's responsibility to immediately address the concern. It just leaves you with the feeling your child is simply a number that can be easily replaced. The school has too many rules that are not always appropriate for young children. Eating in the dark and in silence until all the good food is eaten? No seconds offered, No characters allowed at all on clothing, blankets, backpacks or lunch boxes yet the school allows movies with characters. (how many of our children have clothes that have some character? Its hard find clothes that don't. Scheduled potty breaks? (no roaming teacher) Expected to clean themselves while in the restroom? Come on now, these are young c more

ICC is not the place to be!!! 11/23/2008

In all I feel the actual school is fine but the Instructional Childcare (ICC) is terrible!!! The director, Penny, is unresponsive, unprofessional, and just downright uninvolved. She is totally clueless to what's going on with the kids and never returns phone calls or even emails. She hires and keeps teachers that are so unqualified it's unbelievable!!! The before and after school care is bad... they are in a huge cold cafeteria which is very uninviting especially for a little one. My child usually had problems being dropped off in the morning and she's now at a new school and has not cried one time since day one (4 months ago.) I miss the Christian aspect but really and truly the head of the program (Penny) certainly doesn't act like a Christian anyway!!! One teacher that I have to brag on is Ms. Casteneda. If you can have her for your teacher than you are blessed! She is AWESOME and I can't say enough great things about her! The prices are outrageous! It is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! I like that they had PE every day but even the PE teacher isn't that great! I really can't recommend this school to anyone!!! more

GREAT SCHOOL! 11/14/2008

Just moved and decided to give public school a shot. Sad mistake. They only bring home high A grades and have tested well above expected ranges in every subject. They have also picked up some questionable word choices from peers. Shoreline teachers, staff and families do an amazing job and I would recommend the school to anyone. more

Love this daycare 10/5/2008

I have been going crazy trying to find a good day care for my child and I discovered Shoreline school to be a very good choice. It breaks my heart to hear people talking about the day care like this. Get over it ppl so what if the staff rotates when taking care of the kids or that a male teacher is hired? I know these ppl and I trust them w/ my child. They have such a wonderful caring staff and the director is friendly. I always see a bright smile on my child's face when I pick him up! more

Parents please Beware!! 9/26/2008

I enrolled my daughter at this day care and I observed a couple of disturbing things which led me to withdraw my child. Security was always lapsed. There were many times I entered the building and saw no one at the front desk to check who is coming in or out. Also I saw kids using the hallway bathrooms unattended on several occasions. During naptime period I showed up unexpected to find that the female teacher switched to a male who was supposedly also the coach. I asked the director, Mrs. Penni Pinegar about this and she said that they are not obligated to inform parents about this and that everyone is background checked so it should not be an issue. Well I found out recently that in the early part of 2008 this daycare did not have a license as they graciously advertised on the hallway bulletin board. So who was monitoring employee background checks and other state compliances??. .. hmmmmm Parents please search for Shoreline Instructional Childcare at http://www.txchildcares more

If your child is 5 yrs or younger do not enroll them in this school 9/7/2008

I enrolled my 3 yr old daughter in the full-time, all day program. When I did the tour, I was not told that at 3-3:15pm my daughter would be put in the cafeteria with a 40ish year old male coach till I was able to pick her up around 5pm. At this point she was still potty training. What, the guy is suppose to go in the bathroom and help her while wipe while still watching the other 6-8 children. Nice! After a couple days we knew we did not want her to stay there, but we felt stuck for the rest of the week. On Thursday when my husband went to pick her up and found her all alone in the cafeteria, that was it. She did not return. Too lax, no locks on the front door and apparently anyone can come pick up your child at any time so beware. Do not use this school. more

All Style, Zero Substance 6/30/2008

The lyrics from the Amy Grant song "Fat Little Baby" describes the 5000 or so attendees of this church. Pros: Used to have good worship Cons: Everything else more

Surprised?? No Shocked! 5/4/2008

This is a great example of a Christian facility caught in a BIG lie. For a very long time Shoreline ICC (Instructional Child Care) has done a great job of disguising to parents that they are actually licensed for each year of operation. \r \r Parents are urged to speak with the director and ask to see licensing certificates for each year they operated this facility. Also call Dept. of Family and Protective Services at 512-438-4800 and ask to see what is being done about this matter. Parents, you will be surprised at what you find. \r \r I'm sure after reading this review they will be rushing to get a licensing application filled out for 2008. Very suspicious behavior for a mega, Christian organization who claims they care for kids. more

Education is a little behind the public schools.......... 11/8/2005

A great environment for your younger child if socialization is most important. We placed our daughter there for a year, then moved her to a public school. When she entered Shoreline she was years ahead of her peers, after that year she showed minimal progress. We later compared the curriculum from Shoreline to the public school and found Shoreline's to be over a year behindsome of the public schools. It was still a nice and safe leaning environment for our child, but it was behind academically as they advertised the opposite. We have talked with several families who had similar problems and removed their children to enroll them in public schools. more
