I just had a pole dancing class for my future sister-in-law's bachelorette party with 8 girls total and all I can say is ahhhh-mazing! There are 8 poles total in each class so be ...

Interesting. I did a search to read these reviews again, after taking a really awful hiphop class at Shockra. I saw the one review that panned the class, which really confirms my ...

More then just a dance class!!! 8/23/2008

I took Jessica's 6 week absolute beginners hip hop class and loved it so much that i signed up for her level 2 six week workshop, which was described as a continuation of level one. After a few weeks i realized it was more then just a dance class. It made me understand my body in a whole new way. Not only i can now dance to any type of music be it hip-hop, rock or reggae, i feel comfortable dancing with anyone (or around anyone) no matter what the atmosphere is. The variety of people that the studio brings together is also really amazing. I highly recommend Jessica's classes to anyone! more

Lots of fun 8/22/2008

I had a pole party at Shockra Studios for my birthday,it was a lot of fun. The instructor was very nice and it was a great workout. My friends are still talking about how much fun they had!! I will definitely go back. Pros: Friendly Staff more

Great dance studio to be a part of! Awesome energy! 8/18/2008

I've been taking classes with Jessica for a couple years & now that she has her own studio, I can say that I recommend her entire vision! The crew of professional dancers/teachers she's gathered are down to earth & even as a beginner (have taken hip-hop & salsa, but just starting with the pole) I am getting authentic dance instruction --- not another ""exercise lesson"" but the real deal! & yes, It does get busy around there sometimes (but as does anything that's a bargain - which for this kind of service it is!). I actually live and work in Westchester, but go into the city for these classes! SHOCKra Westchester, please! :) more

Worthwhile workout! 8/18/2008

My friends and I took a private , hour long pole dancing class at SHOCKra and we had a wonderful time! Our instructor was very nice, and very good. She really guided us and made us feel comfortable as we were trying to do these tricky moves. It was a great work out and we had a lot of fun. I would recommend this or any of the other classes that SHOCKra offers. The studio is small, though, so even though you could take the class with a group of 8, I would recommend 6 or fewer. Pros: You can really let your inhibitions go. Cons: For a private one hour class, the rate is based on 8 people, but that is really too large a group for the space. more

Best workout of a lifetime! 8/14/2008

I took a PrePole class at SHOCKra studio with Vicky. And boy what a workout!!! She is amazing! Patient and very thorough. She broke down steps so that it made it easier for a new jack like myself. She went over the routine and moves numerous times. She also used the ENTIRE class time. She encouraged us to just be free with our bodies. It was a great experience and I will be going back!! Pros: Great instructors, great workout more

SHOCKRA STUDIO 8/12/2008

Class was a lot more than I expected. Vicki was great as an instructor and made us feel very comfortable with our moves. Have recommended the class to several friends. YOU get to tone your body while enjoying yourself. Pros: RELAXING AND COMFORTABLE CLASSES more

Goodtimes 8/12/2008

I took beg. Pole dancing. It was a lot of fun; everyone in the class was having fun and laughing along. The instructor was very nice and encouraging. She was in amazing shape and very good at making everyone feel comfortable. It was a shame there were not enough poles per student because sharing took time away from learning. Over all it was a good time! Pros: The curtian so everyone waiting is not watching you. Cons: Small space more

Great class and teacher too! 8/11/2008

I recently took the beginner pole dancing class at shockra and LOVED IT!!! The teacher was amazing and really got you into the moves. I was a bit sore the next day but to be expected. Great workout, great time and definately worth it!!! Pros: Good teacher Cons: not enough poles per person, had to share so it took time away from class more

Excellent Pole Classes at Shockra 8/11/2008

I recently hosted a pole dancing bachelorette party at Shockra. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and our instructor, Vicky, was fantastic! The studio is small but bright and perfect for a group of 10 people. Vicky taught some basics and even helped the more adventurous members of the group try some more advanced moves. There was a good balance between teaching the group and giving attention to each individual. Shockra definitely created a memorable experience for the bride and her guests and I think several of the participants will be back again for more lessons.\r \r Based on the friendleness of the staff, the convenient location, and the affordable prices, I would say that Shockra is the best studio for pole dancing in the city! more

Great Pole Dancing Classes 8/8/2008

I have been to many different types of dance classes before however this was my first experience of a pole dancing class. I went to Pre-pole, a class designed for beginners, by keeping one foot on the floor. I didn't really know what to expect but it was a great fun and a good value for money dance class. The routine was fun and great exercise. The teacher Vicky was great and helped those individually who required a bit of one on one instruction to get the steps right. As I have been to various types of dance classes for years, I know a good teacher when I see one. Vicky was very encouraging and said that I or any of my friends would be fine in the beginner pole dancing class. Vicky had a good mix of teaching all the steps interspersed with a bit of humor. The studio is well equipped with mirrors and poles. We had one pole between two which was perfect as you could watch and concentrate to get the steps right when it wasn't your turn at the pole. Along with my friends I will definitely be returning for more fun-filled classes. more

Awesome Pole-Dancing Class with Viktoriya 8/6/2008

I recently took a pole-dancing class with Viktoriya, and it was one of the most fun exercise classes I have ever taken! I am an ABSOLUTE beginner, and Viktoriya was very patient, and totally encouraging, even when I was feeling very self-conscious and making a lot of mistakes. She took the time to explain the techniques, and the correct way to move and bend as to not hurt myself. Was such a great experience, I highly recommend this class with Viktoriya for any girl or guy (yes, there were guys in the class) looking for an fun and interesting way to burn calories. Pros: Great teacher, great price more

Viktoriya Rocks the Pole at SHOCKra! 8/5/2008

I had never taken pole dancing before and wasn't sure what to expect. I was nervous, being a total beginner, that it would be too difficult or that I wouldn't be any good at it. All my fears and anxieties disappeared when I met Viktoriya, the best pole dancing instructor ever. Viktoriya is patient, sweet, professional and puts everyone at ease. She takes the time to explain and show the moves until everyone is comfortable doing them. She allows you to let go of your inhibitions and self-consciousness and have fun with it. You can tell by the big smile she always has how much she enjoys what she does, and this positive energy is totally contagious. These classes are the most fun I've had in a long time and they are the best excercise you can get. I recommend pole dancing with Viktoriya to everyone. I would take any class that wonderful woman taught. more

Samba class-FRIDAY 8/1/2008

Samba class was great. When we first began I thought it was going to be more like an aerobic session but the class had the exercise (warmup) segment , along with dance instruction. When we were done with the session I felt rejuvenated and enthusied from learning a new form of dance....(Samba!) Although not the original instructor ""R"" did a good job. Pros: Class was not too over crowded more

Best pole class ever 7/30/2008

I've been taking pole classes here for about 4 months now and it is THE BEST thing I have ever done!!! I am officially addicted - even got a pole for my apartment!! Vicky is INCREDIBLE! She kicks my butt each and every time -- and i love it!! Not only is she in the most incredible shape - and she can do things that don't seem possible .... she is patient and supportive (with people like me) - and you leave there doing things you never thought you could!! I can't recommend her classes enough, if its to get in shape, or learn to be slinky on the pole, or just to feel great about yourself!! The entire staff is incredible! I so look forward to going to class every week!! I feel totally different in my body now! I have confidence i never did before, I know what i am capable of doing, and i have a whole new attitude!! I can't say enough wonderful things about this place and what they have done for me!!!! Pros: small classes, great instructor, so much fun, excellent workout Cons: NOT ONE! more

GREAT POLE DANCING CLASS 7/29/2008

IT WAS LOTS OF FUN AND A GREAT WORKOUT. THE TEACHER WAS PATIENT AND MADE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE. SHE DIDNT MAKE IT BORING BY EXPLAINING THE HISTORY OF POLE DANCING OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. AS SOON AS SHE GOT THERE IT WAS TIME TO GET ON THE POLE, WHICH I LOVED. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN A FUN AND EXCITING WORKOUT, AND THE BEST PART IS THAT ITS AFFORDABLE AND YOU CHOOSE WHEN YOU WANT TO GO!! Pros: TEACHER HAS PATIENCE, GREAT FOR MUSCLES AND YOU LEAVE THERE FEELING SEXIER more

awesome yoga classes 7/20/2008

Zara's yoga classes are great--the right balance of yogic thought and workout. Every class is physically challenging without being ridiculously difficult. Zara gives enough individualized attention to improve your practice whether you're a beginner or advanced. The routine and the music are always changed up to keep you engaged in your practice. There's also always a nugget of yoga philosophy introduced to focus your mind, which helps to deepen your poses. Fun class! more

great workout, great fun! 7/20/2008

If you're like me and the gym bores you to tears, then Shockra's the place for you. You get a great workout AND learn something new every time. \r \r Jessica's ballet class is, simply put, great fun. She is a fantastic teacher and breaks everything down very clearly, keeping the class non-intimidating, but still pushing you just a bit farther each time. It's a great workout and the hour simply flies by. My posture's improved and my back doesn't seem to hurt as much anymore. Now try getting all that on the treadmill! Pros: relaxed, non-intimidating atmosphere, friendly instructors more

best beginner level dance classes 7/19/2008

This is the perfect place to get a great workout for people like me who get bored with the gym. The dance classes are easy to follow, but challenging enough so that you feel like you're learning new skills. I love it!!!! more

Really? Hands down, the best place to learn a new dance style! 7/17/2008

I've been to plenty of other dance studios. Beat for beat, bar for bar, step for step, Shock Ra is the best place you can go to learn some new moves and/or body awareness. What really sets Shock Ra apart are the super cool dance instructors and learning atmosphere there. And I attribute that to Jessica, the talented dance professional in charge of the place (by the way, gentlemen, she is super cute...ow). \r \r What I learned in her classes were not only the moves but more importantly how my body was capable of performing them and more. You've heard the adage ""Give a man a fish he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime."" Here you learn not only how to catch a ""salmon"" or ""trout,"" but how to pull off or create your own moves armed with the new found knowledge of how your body works. I remember the day I discovered my rib cage (circa lesson 2 or 3) could move independently of the rest of my body. A light bulb went off over my head and I thought ""so THAT is how Chris Brown does that!"" That was a good day indeed.\r \r Every now and then Shock Ra offers a free intro class for the different dances. With good timing you might be able to set yourself up with one of those. Regardless, I'm telling you, it's worth it! Don't just take my word for it. Come in and see for yourself. Come ""drop it like it's hot!"" Pros: Great value for your buck. Keen personal attention. Positive energy. Good experience. Cons: Sometimes the classes do get so popular that many people show and dancing space gets small. more

awesome pole classes! 7/17/2008

amazing pole classes! marlo is a awesome instructor. you feel stronger, more confident, and def a lot sexier after every class. marlo works at your pace, but still manages to challenge you. the informal class structure also makes it a lot more dynamic and interactive\r under normal circumstances, i hate working out. pole is actually the only real form of exercise i get because it's just so fun and satisfying. i can honestly say i look forward to every pole class Pros: small, fun, interactive, pace of instruction Cons: none! more
