Disappointing and Disinterested 2/29/2012

I went into Shane Co a few weeks ago with one of my girl friends to pick out my engagement ring and diamond. My boyfriend is currently living in Indiana so he told me to pick out what I wanted and he would buy when he visited for a week. I had gone into Wedding Day Diamonds a week before and found a ring and diamond that I really liked. But since this is such a big purchase, I wanted to make sure I was absolutely certain about what I was getting. Pros: null Cons: null more

Disappointing comments from salesman 4/6/2010

My boyfriend and I visited the Minnetonka Shane store about a month ago. We met with a salesman there who made it clear that he didn't like the type of ring I was trying on (halo engagement rings): "Yeah, I prefer more of a classic setting. Honestly, every girl who walks in here wearing knee-high boots and Prada sunglasses wants one of these halo rings. They're really trendy." Um, excuse me....but who's going to end up wearing the ring. You or ME, sir? Another great comment he made to my boyfriend: "The problem with the halo ring is that you're pretty much committed to a certain diamond size. And for most women, diamonds shrink as they get older." I informed him that I will be happy with whatever diamond I receive and will not want something bigger as I get older. Pros: Decent selection Cons: Snarky attitude from sales staff more

Avoid my mistake 1/27/2010

Terrible experience, PLEASE do not let them work on your jewelry. I took my wedding band in just to have a small diamond re-fastened. When I picked it up, they had polished out the brushed finish that was on my band. I returned, not once, but three times and they still can?t put something as simple as a brushed finish back on the band. To make matters worse, the band is now warped. I will now take it to a jeweler and after paying for it, hopefully have my one year old wedding band back to how it was in the first place. more

IT'S TRUE...BE WARNED..SHANE CO DOES NOT HONOR THEIR LIFETIME GUARANTEE 2/26/2009

We bought our first wedding ring at Shane Co because of their "Lifetime Warranty" about 10 years ago. When we had our first child my husband upgraded my ring to platinum and a carat diamond as a gift. About a year and half ago I discovered a chip on my diamond, I took it in to get it looked at and to get it replaced however I was told that the warranty does not cover it. Click on this link and read question 19 which clarify that they should have replaced the chipped diamond: http://www.shaneco.com/jewelry/faqs.asp?page=faqs . My husband decided to just upgrade my diamond to a carat and a half since we had that option. Now comes our real problem, a store manager explained to me that the settings are 1 piece which includes the prongs that holds the diamond. Since we got the bigger diamond and we opted for 6 prongs instead of 4 (to have that extra security), now they would need change the original prongs to accommodate the size of the new diamond. I don't wear my ring when I'm at home and more

my experience 1/20/2009

I have purchased items from both the Denver and Minnesota Shane Companys and i have always enjoyed shopping there. I recently heard that they filed chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize as a company. I also heard that people claimed they were not living up to their guarantees. But when i went in there 3 days ago, not only did they replaced a chipped diamond on my wifes ring at no charge, they also gave me all the money i paid for my gold ring towards the purchase of a new ring. I support Shane Co.!!! And thanks for all your help over the years. CHIRS JOHNSON Pros: Everything Cons: don't sell watches more

Shane Co NOT honoring their refund warranty 1/17/2009

I hear you on Shane Co not issueing refunds because of filing chapter 11 bankruptcy. My fiance purchased a ring without telling me, proposed to me, then we started ring shopping together. I didnt like the mountings at Shane Co, so we went to go refund the ring. It hadn't even been 30 days yet (they have 60 day guarantee) and we were refused anything but store credit/exchanges because they had filed for Chapter 11, YET they are running their business as NORMAL. I am going to small claims court to get the money back, and reporting them. If they want to remain a competitor in their industry, they should RESPECT their guarantees and warranties. I don't know much about law, or court ordered mandates, but I know that as a company who claims to be your friend in the diamond business, they should AT least stay true to their guarantees. An engagement ring is NO small investment, and it is something that you will have for life. Being in the industry they are in, they should KNOW this. I am beyon more

It is NOT business as usual 1/17/2009

No change to guarantee's or warranties! 1/17/2009

The ONLY thing that this affects is the person who purchased prior to January 12th and wants a refund. They will still take care of ALL merchandise and you are welcome to exchange. The law restricts Shane from refunding money prior to the filing. NO SERVICES WILL COST A PENNY, AS USUAL! more

Shane Company FIled Bankruptcy and I lost out 1-15-09 DO NOT BUY HERE 1/15/2009

I bought a diamond on Tuesday Night, my girlfriend was not with me and I was told about their lifetime guarantee (which is no longer because of bankruptcy), and I was told to suprise her and I could return it if she did not like it. The next day, we both had off and went shopping and she found a diamond at another store that was much better quality. I then went to Shane to return the diamond a day later, and the salesperson said they could not return it because a judge in bankruptcy court said they could not return any jewelry. I couldn't believe it. I later found out that before I had purchased the diamond, Shane had already filed bankruptcy and that the salesperson lied to me about lifetime guarantees and return policy. There are none. He new they were already bankrupt when he sold me. No where on my receipt does it say final sale, no signs in the store said all sales are final. I got scammed. I then went on their website and it still had a return policy. But they have not changed their website to reflect the state of their company in bankruptcy. My advice, do not loose out on an engagement ring, a ring that is most important to you and your future wife. Stay away they are a sinking ship. The sales staff is not telling the whole truth so they can make commision dollars. Pros: none Cons: Bankrupt, no lifetime guarantee, salestaff misrepresented return policy, there is none. more

False Advertisement 1/12/2009

I have never been so disappointed and disgusted in my life. My husband and I went into the store in Cool Springs,Tn where we were met by several sales associates. I let my husband and the sales person talk me into putting a ring on layaway so that I could bring my diamond back at a later date to be mounted into the ring. I was told more than five different times that at anytime within a month I could call back to the store and ask for a complete refund on the layaway if I decide not to purchase the ring. I called back in less than 2 weeks and was told that I would not be able to get my money back. The company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and would not be handing out money only merchandise credits. One of the reasons we went into the store was due to the fact that Shane Co. advertise that they pay for everything they buy, they owe no one. This is not true they owe their customers the same respect and honesty that they portray. They also should honor their policies. more

Best customer service and "human service" 8/28/2008

I visited your Minnetonka MN store and your sales rep, Lois B., assisted me in selecting a new mounting for my diamond. Pros: parking, great location, service, warmth of staff, quality, price more

Good experience 8/16/2008

I'm not sure if other reviewers just had personality conflicts with the sales people or what, because I had a great time with Shane Co. in Minnetonka. I had already been to a few other jewelry places and was looking for an engagement ring, already with a very good idea of what I was looking for. The lady I worked with respected that and only put in what was relevant to me. She never pressured me to buy, and in fact she made sure to show me diamonds that were less expensive options than the diamond I had my eye on. I was asked by a couple people during my browsing if I would like anything to drink or if they could help me at all. Maybe this bothers some customers, but I appreciate concern for customers (personal or directed by management) and responded politely. Put yourself in their shoes if you're one to be annoyed. Pros: Service, helpful, decent diamond selection Cons: Not a large store, so perhaps limited ring selection. I found the right one, though :) more

Guy proof 1/22/2008

If you need help looking for that special gift for your loved one the staff at Shane Company will really help you out without making you feel dumb. They carry loose stones and will help you pick the correct setting. more

So bad, their score is below a 7. 10/17/2006

I had been to the other shaneco store across town and had been so disgusted that i didn't think that it could get any worse. Well, all I had to do was visit the Minnetonka store. Yet again, I was greeted by a know-nothing young girl with literally pounds of make-up on. I made the mistake of bringing the boy and so they mistook us for buyers that day. If they somehow really don't work on commision, then thier lives literally must hang in the balance of making a sale. I have never heard a more desperate sounding group of people in my life. In all, seven different people tried to FORCE us to buy that day, even a regional manager came out and pressured us. No one wonder we were the only people in the store over the half hour that we were there. Pros: NOT ONE. Cons: INTENSELY HIGH PRESSURE!!!!!!!! Desperate salespeople. more

Star Treatment 6/8/2006

I feel like a princess when I go to Shane Co. When I walk in, I am greeted by someone who helps point me in the right direction. They provide me with a beverage and cookies to keep me comfortable. There are plenty of people on staff so that I am always helped out right away (even during busy times on the weekends when there are 6 different couples looking at rings). Shane Co prides themselves on having unique, quality jewelry and that is definitely the case. I love my engagement ring and could not be happier with the service they provide for it. It is a very unique ring (ie it doesn't look like any of my friend's rings which all look pretty similar) and the staff was very patient with my fiance when he was picking it out. They are one of the few jewelers that include a lifetime warranty on the gold (not just the diamonds!). So if I gain/lose weight in 10 years, I can have the ring resized at no cost to myself. Also the benefit of having the band polished at no cost is great too. The on more

Estimate person was brisk 9/18/2005

I needed a few items to be appraised and it was like pulling teeth to get the guy to do so. He acted as if my item needed to be thousands and thousands more in order to have his time fulfilled correctly. I was not very happy with his attitude. However, I will say that their selection is wonderful, by far the best in the business and their prices cannot be beat. Very helpful if you are unsure as to what to buy or what you are exactly looking for. more

jewelry store at its best 9/13/2005

Shane Co is a good starting point for researching any serious jewelry purchase even if you dont buy it here, youll have a pretty good idea about your options after visiting this store. Service is superb and inventory is impressive. Salespeople really know their trade and are able to explain every little detail, and there is no hard-pressure sale. Prices are high, but so is quality. more

I Got the Diamond of My Dreams!! 6/10/2005

For our sixth Christmas married together, my husband wanted to surprise me with an upgraded diamond for my wedding ring. WOW did The Shane Company come through for me! They explained diamonds to my husband and helped him choose a beautiful princess cut that I fell in love with the moment I saw it! They made my husband feel comfortable the minute he walked in, comfortable enough to ask questions and really understand the process of purchasing something that will be a family heirloom. They even later mounted it in my original ring, purchased elsewhere, and helped me choose a setting for my original, smaller diamond. The service was spectacular! PROS: Close, friendly, ready to educate, low pressure sales CONS: Sometimes busy more

  • Shane Co. in Minnetonka specializes in engagement rings, wedding rings, loose diamonds, and fashion jewelry with diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and pearls. We have the state’s largest selection, including hundreds of styles no other jeweler or website has. Shane Co. is fourth-generation, family-owned, direct diamond importer. We go to the diamond cutters where the diamonds are sorted by their lab grades. Then we examine the diamonds one at a time, and pick only the ones with the most sparkle from within each grade. Most other jewelers and websites order their diamonds based only on lab grades, so they can’t possibly see how much they sparkle. That’s why a Shane Co. diamond sparkles more than any other jeweler’s diamond with the same lab grade. Also, by eliminating the middlemen and their markups, you get a much better value at Shane Co. We guarantee the quality and beauty of your Shane Co. jewelry for life, for free, with our Free Lifetime Warranty. Our warranty also covers the center diamond of your engagement ring. No other jeweler does this. We guarantee your satisfaction with a 60-day Money-back Guarantee.
