Best

The food (Italian) is good but what I liked most was the way they treated my son by bringing out an Etch A Sketch and server acknowledged him. We also liked that kids are allowed...

Perhaps the waitress just broke up with her boyfriend 8/22/2007

Took former college roommates here to wrap up a day of fun. One was visiting from NYC, a semi annual event. They depend upon me to find a good restaurant. I had had drinks here a few months ago and the atmosphere was friendly and pleasant. Tonight we were so dissapointed. The waitress was inattentive to a point nearing rudeness. The salmon ravioli at $18 was such a small serving that my tiny friend was left eating off others' plates. Salad accompanying the spinach empanada was bland and left uneaten. Waitress didn't seem to notice, or perhaps to care. Four small slices of bread for four people is stingy. Had to ask for water refills and waited a very long time for wine. We are able to and happy to spend good money for good food and service, but not here again. We felt ignored and I was embarrassed for having chosen the place. Pros: airy atmosphere, good music Cons: inattentive wait staff more

Great experience for my daughters birthday. 5/30/2007

We took my daughter to Serrattos for her birthday and had a very nice dining experience. Service was attentive and knowledgeable and the ability to order smaller portions really makes it much more affordable and doesn't fill you up so you need help leaving the table. Three of us ordered pasta dishes which were all excellent and my wife ordered riscotto with basil olive oil which she also enjoyed. We've frequented Serratto's fairly often but we usually go mid week and later in the evening. This trip was on a Tuesday evening after 8 and the place had quieted down significantly which is nice if you are into good conversation. The nice thing about that is the food is just as good and maybe even better than peak periods since it isn't such a thrash. We'll be back again. Pros: ambience, service, wine list Cons: parking more

fun for a fancy date 5/8/2007

my family went to serrattos to celebrate my graduation from college this weekend. apparently everyone else did, too! the restaurant was really busy. that did not necessarily detract from our experience. our server was knowledgeable and helpful and checked in with us frequently. but we did have to wait for at least an hour for our meals for a group of 7. fortunately my salad came within the hour. all of the salads we ordered were delicious. as were most of the entrees. but my risotto was not very good at all, with big chunks of some kind of undercooked something that tasted like celery. ick! but, i enjoyed everyone else's plate, so i would just consider it a one time thing. oh, and don't skip dessert! we got a couple to share and the peanut butter chocolate cobbler was to die for!! as was the new york style cheesecake. i would definitely go back, but probably with a smaller group- probably just my boyfriend because the candlelight lighting was very romantic. Pros: great service, yummy desserts, romantic ambience Cons: weird risotto, long wait even for a saturday night more

Who needs a kitchen if you live in NW? 4/21/2007

My wife and I tried to put our finger on why we like this place so much and we couldn't...it's not any one thing. The food is excellent, the service is friendly, it looks nice, the music is good, you can always park for free one block away in the hospital lot...and on and on we went. So we just keep going back. We go when it is just the two of for a nice night out. We go when we have friends from out of town. Sometimes we go for happy hour, which isn't as cheap as some places, but is still a great deal. Regardless, it always seems to work for us, and I feel like it is a pretty safe recommendation for most people...except my aunt who only drinks white zin (because they don't have any). However, the owner opened a bottle of a sweeter riesling one time just so she could have one glass of the something like white zin. She was so impressed because nobody tried to make her feel lame for drinking something that they clearly don't believe in (or they would have it on the menu). Pros: Nice people Cons: Crowded on weekends more

An unexpected treat 2/21/2007

On a whim my boyfriend and I popped into the bar area of Serratto one evening where we proceeded to have an enjoyable meal with well-above average service. My beef bourguignon was on point, and his venison inspired an endless stream of oohs and aahs. Salads and desserts were solid and the wine list offered an unusually large selection of half bottles. The ambiance was lively without being too loud and the decor was spacious yet warm. All in all, Serratto was a pleasant suprise and we'll definitely return. Pros: Great environment, solid food, friendly service more

Decent meal, unexpected surprise... 2/12/2007

We happened into Serratto due to a line at another local restaurant and decided to stay. We were pleasantly surprise with the whole evening. The Antipasti was phenomenonal - reall throw back to the plates of cured meats and cheeses of downtown New York. Pros: Antipasti, Breads Cons: Bar was a little slow. more

tasty plates, good wine 2/5/2007

Serratto impressed me with their smiling staff, the open kitchen and the beautiful space. I went in with some friends for happy hour; they had small plates of pizza, salads, a burger, and this rigatoni pasta with zesty sausage. Everything was timely, and went with comfertable ease. My friends who had been in a few times for dinner as well said that dinner there was even nicer than our happy hour, so I will be in to check that out for myself. I loved Serratto and will go back. Pros: service, happy hour, sparkling wine Cons: parking, but that's not really their fault more

Great food! 1/15/2007

I love the food here and the only thing better is the staff. Everytime I go they make me feel special! My only complaint is that if the restaurant isn't full it can feel a little cavernous. Pros: Great food and service Cons: empty feeling if not busy more

Great food and service by Nick! 1/8/2007

My husband and I dined at Serratto for the first time about a week ago. We really enjoyed it. The food was excellent. Try the kalamari--an amazing lemon sauce as an accompaniment. Truly yummy! The parmesan chicken dish also great. Just make sure you ask them to cook it well throughout as near the end some of my chicken wasn't as cooked as I'd liked it. But the taste was so incredible that I would definitely try it again! What really stood out about our experience was our service. Nick, our server, provided truly exemplary customer service being knowledgeable, friendly and not intrusive. We were truly impressed by him. Pros: Great location, service, and food. more

Finally! Italian fare worth raving about 12/29/2006

Truly a date night to remember. The ambience was romantic and service just right. Not too rushed, yet was available whenever we needed despite the crowded evening. Our server was wonderful and friendly and recommended the perfect bottle of wine -- exactly the taste we were hoping for. The food was amazing from appetizer to entree to dessert. Flavors popped and portions were perfect. Everything was cooked to perfection. Prices were fair considering the excellent quality ingredients and competitive to similar surrounding restaurants. There was absolutely nothing to complain about with this dining experience (and that's rare for me). We've been to so many Italian restaurants throughout major parts of California and Oregon and this definitely secures a place in the ""top"" list. Pros: Food, Wine, Ambience, Service Cons: Parking more

Love the ambience, great service, and fabulous food 12/26/2006

Our past couple of visits to Serratto have been wonderful. We dined there about a week ago with some friends and had a terrific dining experience. Our server, I believe his name is Nick, was a great help with menu recommendations as well as wine recommendations. At first when we got there we felt a bit rushed by some of the other service staff (not Nick) and I believe he could sense we wanted to take our time so the service overall slowed down a lot. There are 3 things that make an evening memorable...the ambience, service and food....all are hands down wonderful at Serratto!!! We know we will be regulars at this restaurant! Pros: Service, Food and Ambience more

Best Burger Ever!!--and surprisingly quick 10/30/2006

On Monday afternoon I enjoyed one of the best lunches I have had in a very long time, and it was also surprisingly quick. Since I had a longer lunch hour than usual, I decided to stop by Serratto and enjoy the beautiful and homey atmosphere with a glass of wine. Serratto has never let me down with their selection of wine by the glass, but I have been hesitant to try to squeeze a visit there into a normal lunch break. This was my second lunch experience at Serratto, and I found that I was able to order, eat, and pay in much less time than I had anticipated. My first lunch experience at Serratto (last spring) took about an hour, but the food was very good and worth the little extra time. I had ordered the burger that time, and on this recent visit had planned on trying something new. Almost everything on the menu sounded great, but I ended up ordering the burger once again, since I had enjoyed it so much the first time. My burger came quickly (less than 10 minutes after ordering), and was a bit on the rare side for medium (as I had ordered), but I have to say, it was the best burger I have ever had in my life! I was especially pleased with the prompt, courteous service, and am no longer hesitant to return for lunch on a day when I have less time. Cheers to Serratto, and keep up the good work! Pros: food, atmosphere, service more

Great hostess, good food, not quick enough for lunch 10/17/2006

I have been in the restaurant business for YEARS and really enjoy the whole experience. My girlfriend from work wanted to meet for lunch, she has an hour, like most 9am-5ers. I heard Serrattos had lunch now, so I thought it would make for a good experience. We were immediately greeted by the sweetest hostess, who had mentioned how nice we looked (big points!!) and offered us a private seat near a window. Our server took WAY to long to greet us, even longer to bring our drinks and we had to ask for bread and water! She was chatting with the table next to us about how she wanted to go to law school and how her job was so beneath her which was a little annoying. It took about an hour, which caused my friend to be late, but besides that, the food was delicious and (I assume) the owners/managers greeted us on our way out which was really nice. Overall good experience ! Pros: the lunch hostess, the decor, the food Cons: the snobby lunch server and the lunch wait more

I would not recommend it! 10/7/2006

Went for a nice birthday dinner with family and the food and service were below par. The Baked Macaroni was not creamy, it was just a lot of oil. The steak was undercooked and the potatoes with it were nothing but salty..........The server was unattentive and did not seem to care that the food was unacceptable. The only dish worth mentioning was the Creme Brulee - really good. We will not go back again. Pros: Not many to speak of Cons: Most everything more

Food & Ambiance to die for 10/1/2006

I own a restaurant - so am very picky. Serratto is my favorite restaurant in town. I send numerous people here and no one has ever been disappointed. The Osso Bucco is the best I've ever had (put it on the menu ALL the time please!!). The wine list is excellent. Service attentive and professional. You are always greeted promptly and with a smile at the door. I have gone here meeting friends who were late and was very comfortable waiting at the bar. This is one of Portland's best restaurants - don't miss it. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Servers more

Great Find - Yummy and Nice! 10/1/2006

My husband and I went here last night with friends, and we all discussed that it was the best meal we have had in years (maybe even ever). I should caveat that we were well coached by our server and a guy who seemed like he must be the manager. We had several appetizers to share: 1. the clams with chorizo were so good that we nearly got full dipping bread in the broth; 2. the raw tuna with tarragon was haunting. We will be back for this for sure. Then they suggested we split salads, which we did: the chopped salad was amazing. As they warned, the Caesar was a little boring, but we were in the mood for one boring thing. Lastly, we all four had different entrees and passed them around: each bite was better than the last. I had the scallops with risotto which were perfectly seared and the risotto had mushrooms and blue cheese (which was not too strong as blue cheese can be). My husband had the ""best steak of his life"" and it was cooked perfectly rare-medium-rare. Our friends had the wild boar on fresh pasta and salmon on polenta with a fennel chowder ""moat"" around it. Amazing! Unfortunately, we were too full to eat any more so I cannot report on dessert, but I bet it's good. Overall, we had a great night -- the place was warm and inviting, the people were also warm and inviting, and the food was simply fabulous. Way to go and keep it up Serratto! more

Delicious and Fun 7/22/2006

This place is so solid. Lots of overrated places in PDX, but this place delivers. The food, the atmosphere, the service...all are great every time. Best burger I have ever had. No joke. And my wife loved the eggplant tagine (which is vegan)...can't tell you how nice it is to be able to get a vegan dish without making a fuss...especially in such a nice setting. Way to go Serratto! more

slow but good service 6/28/2006

Serrato is a good place for a small group, but I wouldn't recommend it for a large group. My wife and I went there with 3 other couples and it took a long long time to get our food. Granted it was a Saturday night, but we didn't get our food for 1 and a half hours after ordering! Fortunately the food and drinks were both fantastic and the server was just as sweet as can be. more

Delicious Food For the Whole Family 4/22/2006

second visit: Returned with our kids (ages 4 and 10). Pizza is now on the menu and they loved it. I think the space is large and busy enough to accomodate the energy and voices that accompany family meals. Food and service were outstanding again. first visit: A few new items on the menu. Salmon tartar appetizer and butternut squash ravioli and both desserts were delicious. Great food and wine. Service well paced. Such a beautiful place, I didn't want to leave. more

This place has it all 3/31/2006

Wow, this place has it all. The space is the most beautiful in town...and so are the women that work there. More impressive though is how nice everybody is, so warm and genuine. I was blown away. Last but not least, the food here rocks!. We split a lot of things, and they were all amazing. We all agreed that this is the best steak in town -- for about half the price of a steakhouse, and with much better ambience. Burger, scallops and even the vegan eggplant tagine were all outstanding. It is very cool that they can do it all, because so many places can't get anything right. All four of us agreed that this is our new favorite restaurant. Pros: Beautiful, Delicious, Friendly Cons: Parking more
