Sekisui Midtown Restaurants

I'd been to the Walnut Grove location several times and always with great overall results, but after moving to midtown I realized a measurable difference in the quality. For one thing, the sushi moved from well above average to just average, but on the bigger issue was that on all three trips here, the service was terrible. On the last trip, I came in with my girlfriend with a buy one/get one coupon. We still ran up a big bill, but it took about forty minutes from the time we wanted the bill to getting the bill, and when she never came to pick it up, I finally walked up to the front and found our waitress doing shots with the rest of the staff and was furious. When she saw I was upset, she added an automatic 20% tip for herself, dropped it on the table and went back to drinking. It was my last time there. I came here just because of the Sekisui name. I have been to others and had wonderful sushi. The sushi here was warm, badly rolled, and had the most bland flavor. Please skip this place. Cons: bad service, below mediocre sushi more

I travel extensively and try sushi everywhere I go. This includes East Coast, Florida, Southern, Texas and West Coast. I typically scan the Citysearch website for the Best of a town and start there. Sekisui was well rated by the members and they fell very short for me. The service was spotty, I saw the server maybe 3 times, taking the order, bringing the drinks and then having to flag her down for a check. Now the heart of the matter, the food - Octopus Sunomuno salad - this salad, in the right hands can be wonderful and refreshing, here it fell flat and had a strange taste. The Rachael Roll was dry, sushi should never be DRY. And the Ocean Pyramid - tasted fishy. Again, anyone eating quality sushi knows that sushi does not taste fishy (especially salmon and yellowtail). Wonderful resource; drop in about 50% of the time that we go into memphis. The house specialty cucumber wrapped shrimp and rice with a dab of mayo on top is to die for. Service has always been great, wide selection of sushi and drinks and no matter how we experiment with the menu we've come away more than happy. more

I will never get enough of this place. The House Cucumber rolls, Crunchy crab and shrimp-really great! I do think the Midtown branch is the best one out of the 3 restaurants. If you need sushi-this is the place to be. Pros: food, service more
