Great Southern Italian Cooking 10/27/2005

We've been going to Scotti's for more than a few decades. Guido would entertain and serve while Momma cooked in the kitchen. If you gave them any pretention, then watchout, you're likely to get slugged my Momma. Although many great restaurants moved or closed-up shop. It is due to Scotti's consistant commitment to quality and service that it's survived and has customers as loyal as it does. Don't believe that one reviewer. If you go early for lunch, look in the back. You'll see them putting away the meat&casings used to make sausage, or grinding out the pasta. The tiles, including a few whimsical broken coffee-mugs, were set into the wall with loving care by Guido. Although he and Mamma are gone, the latter generations have taken over the family tradition. Like the last in a royal dynasty, Scotti's remains one of the best in the world. Pros: Family owned more

My Favorite Local Spot 10/15/2005

For those of you who aren't familiar enough with authentic Italian foods to appreciate the flavors, this is not the place for you. It's like eating in an Italian home with a menu full of homemade dishes, good Italian wine, candlelit tables & opera on the speakers, all served up by the 5th generation Italian owners. The minestrone soup is made daily with all fresh ingredients and is by far the best I've ever had. The portions are huge and it's important to save room for the homemade dessert and espresso. The extensive menu makes it hard to decide what to order but it also gives me an excuse to frequent and try something new each time. The reveiw ""Not Very Impressive"" obviously doesn't know a thing about REAL ITALIAN FOOD! Pros: Authentic Homemade Fo, Romantic, Ambiance Cons: Small Dining Room, Parking more

Not Very Impressive 2/19/2005

I wish I had read the review I found BEFORE I went there with my wife. We arrived early. They asked our name on the reservation and acted like it wasn't even on there but sat us anyway. The soup was OK, nothing a can of Cambell's wouldn't compare with. The salad and garlic bread were fine. The meal itself was cold. I ordered the eggplant parmesian and my wife the spinach lasagna. Both plates were cold. The waiter was not very good or polite. We found later that's because they are the owners. The busgirl was about the only bright side. She was more pleasant and polite and service oriented than the family. As far as the food, I'm German, and I could make better Italian dishes. The terramaso and the coffee were both good. Pros: Ambience, Candlelight, Busgirl Cons: Waiter, Food, Value more

I just found the best tasting restaurant 8/13/2003

People who don't understand Italian food should not write about it. I travel all over the country and Canada...Scotti's is the best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at. I do not understand why anyone would say anything bad about this place. THUMBS UP FOR SCOTTI'S. ANYONE EATING THERE IS IN FOR A TREAT. Pros: food, service, atmosphere Cons: too busy, too long a wait more

over rated 11/29/2002

The service was good, but the food wasn't. The Italian sausage was a store bought variety and looked awfully close to a plain old frank, which was surprising given the high price. Pros: atmosphere, friendliness, volume Cons: price, food quality, parking more

Quaint 11/13/2002

A low key place with great ambience, perfect for a date or lunch. Just make sure to take cash. Pros: Food, Ambience, Location Cons: Cash only, tight quarters, Long Closures more

You can't top a classic... 10/28/2002

I've eaten at Scotti's several times over the years and think of it often. It is an Italian restaurant from an older time with classic Southern recipes. The food's a lot heavier than today's norm, the flavors much more complex, the experience nostalgic. It reminds me of Da Vinci's in Philadelphia. Given Scotti's history this is no surprise. I remember the stack of records on the changer .. more than 10, they'd start to slip and someone had to go down and start them over... Pros: tiles, candles, bottles Cons: hours more

The best kept secret in Cincinnati! 9/26/2002

Authentic Italian food and a great atmosphere. You can't ask for better service. The worst thing I can say about Scotti's is the servings are huge! Be prepared to have it for lunch the next day. Pros: True Italian Cooking, Friendly Waiters, Great Service Cons: Closed Sunday & Monda more

The Italian Rave 9/25/2002

THE BEST ITALIN FOOD IN THE COUNTRY 7/26/2002

I HAVE BEEN DINING A SCOTTI'S FOR 24 YEARS AND AT LEAST 2 A MONTH IF NOT MORE. THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT AS WELL AS THE FOOD. THE ATMOSPHERE IS DIFFERENT BUT QUITE ROMANTIC AND RELAXING NOT ONLY TO THE BUSINESS CUSTOMERS, THE VACTIONERS BUT ALSO FOR THE FAMILY OR THE COULPES. I THINK OF THE EMPLOYEES I HAVE KNOWN THROUGH THE YEARS AS FAMILY BECAUSE THAT IS THE WAY THEY MAKE YOU FEEL. Pros: FOOD, INEXPENSIVE, ATMOSPHERE Cons: PARKING more
