Not as much selection for a tapas bar as I'd like, but the food is really good. I highly recommend the...

House Sangria 5/25/2006

$5 a glass for the delicious house sangria: a great start to your evening here! The specialty sangrias are about 50 cents more, and include Champagne, White Peach, Raspberry and Mango. This is key information to have as we head into the Chicago summer--you're going to crave these refreshing drinks soon. The tapas are pretty standard--you can get similar items anywhere--but I particularly like the ceviche when its on the menu. The paella, starting at $9/serving seems expensive. The small hot and cold tapas plates are not bad, ranging in price from $4-15. Go late, eat light, and then dance all night to reggae, salsa, Colombian and other music. more

Sangria 4/9/2006

Sangria is a tapas restaurant, a bar and a club. We had to wait for an hour for our table, despite having a reservation. This was made much less painful by the bar area, which is large. They also comped our drinks once we sat down. The food is pretty good, but not as good as at some other tapas restaurants in Chicago. Sangria is definitely more of a scene, around 11:30 they started playing music and opened up the dance floor. more

  • The Scene
Located on Weed Street, this tapas restaurant draws a lively crowd with a convivial vibe and reasonably priced fare. Colorful walls and panels are accented by whimsical line drawings and shimmery disco mirrors; lustrous curtains add softness. Intimate banquettes seat couples while chatty groups sit at larger tables.

    The Food
The menu includes hot and cold tapas plus entrees like paella, grilled skirt steak and grilled swordfish. Favorite hot plates include brothy chickpea stew with rich chorizo sausage; sweet bite-sized dates wrapped in bacon; and plump pan-seared sea scallops complemented by mild mojo verde sauce. From the cold side, the thick Spanish tortilla (similar to quiche) is a flavorful standout. In addition to paella of the day, the lunch menu offers a Cuban pressed sandwich and a burger with Chihuahua cheese and caramelized onions. Decadent desserts include warm chocolate cake with tangy-sweet mango sauce.
