Awful experience.Failed to do formal hair and makeup 10/18/2011

I made an appt 2 months in advance and was told a Marlene was doing a formal hair do and makeup for a wedding at 10am. I showed up on time and had to wait nearly 37 minutes to find out that Marlene and a bunch of other girls quit to work elsewhere and a new girl, Danielle, was now in charge of my appt. Danielle was nice but clearly unable to handle my thick, long hair. I had to add several bobby pins in as soon as I left the salon and the curls were not sprayed enough and looked frizzy. Danielle didn't even know she had to do my makeup until I told her and she did a horrible job. I asked for a smokey eye and fake lashes. She globbed on a mess of charcoal eyeshadow on my entire upper lid, using NO skill whatsoever. She didn't put any eyeliner on me and failed to cover my dark circles under my eyes, and the blush was applied way too low near my jaw line! And she didn't even put mascara on my lower lashes. I was in such a rush because she was 37 minutes late starting me, that I didn't realize how bad the makeup was till I got in the car. Nearly in tears and 110$ poorer, I almost missed the ceremony. The only thing she did right was put the fake lashes on. I have never heard of a makeup artist not putting eyeliner on a client. Hello isn't that included in a formal makeup session!?!? Clearly Sakora threw me at a rookie stylist and a late one at that. Never going back. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$ OR TIME! more

Southgate's WORST Aveda Spa 9/9/2011

My service at Sakora sucked badly. I was given the 3 for $99 (mini facial, upgraded 1 hour massage and pedicure) as a gift certificate for my birthday from my boyfriend. When I arrived I was told that the esthetician didn't even work that day. My facial was what I was most looking forward to since I'd never had one before. My massage was ok. Just ok. They were all told several times by my boyfriend that they were to treat me like a queen but I was left to wander around the salon aimlessly to try to figure out where to go after my massage was finished. Every massage therapist I've ever gone to has told me to drink lots of water after a massage so I was surprised when the massage therapist there "asked" me if I wanted anything to drink; pop, coffee, water...I opted for the water and was brought tap water in a glass. I could taste the chlorine. I would have thought that they could spring a couple bucks for bottled water from Walmart or something. So I finally found my way to the pedicure room to get my pedicure and the girl had me sit in the pedi chair and I waited for her to clean out the tub in front of me. My pedicure was something else. I left with the exact same amount of calluses on my feet and when I got into my car I had to clean out my own toenails from gardening the day before. She barely massaged my feet and legs at all and when asked to apply more pressure she didn't. I left feeling totally embarrassed that my boyfriend spent so much money ($132 for the 3 services which included an upgrade and a tip for all three girls) and I got a crappy service. This made him look bad, and made Sakora look even worse. He and I went back and complained. Long story short, all they wanted to do was give me another pedicure. Why would I want another pedicure? What? Wasn't the one they gave me bad enough? Ended up they offered me (only) $99 refund (he paid $133) and I never got the facial. Fine. I took the offer. They said they'd mail me the check. Got the check yesterday. It was for $66! Apparently, so I was told by Marion, the manager, the owner "changed her mind." Nice. Not to mention, it seems we're the laughing stock around that salon because of what happened. Apparently, they've all been talking about us since we went in and complained. We never once raised our voices or became rude at any point. If we had, I could maybe see them talking and laughing about us. Thus the blog. And until they give me the other $33 that they promised, I will blog every single week about the poor, unprofessional service they gave me and my boyfriend. Only reason I gave them any star what-so-ever is because I had to! more

Terrible service 11/28/2009

my daughter wore hair pieces for 1 1/2 years, this is her first time in a while straightening her hair this is my daughters story: at the salon, ok so listen to this. the salon closed at 8. my appointment was supposed to be at 7, we got there ast 6:55. the lady who was suppose to be doing my hair was doing someone elses, and wasnt even half wway finished. & so i waited a halfhour later, coming to like 7;30. it took 3 hours for them to finish my hair. idk why? 2 girls were working on my hair. and they were brushing it out for forever. the did a sucky job cutting it, my hair looks so ugly, my bands are effed up, and when she was done the ladies like oh you can mess with your bangs, so then i set my phone down to mess with them. and then we left to go to applebees. as soon as we pulled in i realized i didnt have my phone. so we drove back. no one was there. so we called yestersday. supposebly, they looked and it wasnt there. w/e. i know thos batches were mad bc they had to stay 3 hours past closing time on my hair. i know they took it bc if i woulda dropped it, i woulda heard it. and we cleaned out my car. and its not there. - dont waste your time there - rude, stealing women - terrible skills. - as soon as we walked outside my hair poofed out bc they didnt get the roots. - takes your business anywhere else but here! Pros: rude women, terrible stylists, very stuckup. Cons: cute setup. more

Absolutely Love Sakora! 10/11/2009

I absolutely LOVE Sakora Salon. The girls are super friendly and outgoing. On top of that they have some serious skill. I had the best pedicure of my life there. (and the room was so cute) Plus a free neck massage when you get your hair done. Who doesn't like that! If you live in downriver you need to check it out. I haven't been to another salon in the area that even compares. Pros: Friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere more

DONT GET A MASSAGE OR FACIAL HERE! 4/4/2009

Listen if you receive a gift certificate for a massage and a facial like i did, take my advice and go there to ask for a cash refund. I visited this place when it first opened, and got a facial, which was pathetic. But i forgave them because they were new. Then i went back two more times and was disappointed even more. It isn't the place like they portray it to be. The girls are young and inexperienced...meaning they just came out of Everest Institute. Save your money in this poor economy. Pros: location Cons: poorly trained staff more

best salon downriver 2/13/2008

The atmosphere is great , its easy to find and the girls there really know their hair. I personally love aveda and this is an all aveda salon without the crazy prices!!! I suggest my stylist Becky, she's great. Pros: Great aveda salon Cons: they were out of wine when I was there, bummer. more
