Sailfin Pet Shop

I cannot understand some of the comments that I have read.The staff is very knowlegable and the conditions of the store are top shelf. Everytime I've gone there it hasn't been more than a minute before someone on the staff asked if they could help. As for the owner he is the best in his field and I think that some of you just don't like the aswers you get back ( sorry if the truth hurts) . In my experiance a lot of you would rather blame it on the store and it's staff rather than admit your own shortcommings with your own pets. more

When returning fish i was told i would have to wait, as i waited he proceeded to insult another customer and then returned to me. When he finally got back to me he asked how long i had had my tank running and i told him one month. As he went and "tested" the water he came back and asked me "sir, off the record, really how long have you had your tank?" I replied "really a month" and he proceeded to tell me that my ammonia was double what it should ever be and all my fish would be dead in the next two days. He said he didn't feel responsible for the fish he sold me dying but it was not up to him to consider refunds. Overall the store itself is great, just do your best to avoid the owner since all he'll do is insult you and pretend that you are a horrible person more

This is by far the best store outside Chicago area for Fish. They have both Freshwater and Marine selections. If they do not have it the staff will try to locate it for you if you just ask. Also have a nice selection of true Aquatic Plants. If your in the area be sure to check it out more

Not too long ago, my partner and I had brought an injured migratory bird to Sailfin Pet Shop so I could identify which seeds the bird ate and buy a cage for it in hopes of rehabilitating it.\r \r The first thing I noticed while standing in the crowded "bird aisle" was that the cages were small and literally piled up on top of another. As I stood there, the owner of the shop, John Cwaygel noticed me and was curious to see what I carried inside the basket, so I showed him. \r When se saw the little green bird, he looked at me in the eye and told me in a stern voice that I was in "VIOLATION of several federal and state laws" (his exact words) and then advised me to take it to a small animal clinic. I felt harassed as a customer to be accused this way!\r \r He said at the animal clinic they would put the bird in rehabilitation and give it vitamins. I love the fact that the staff here would rather my animals at home survive than sell me something that will kill what I already love. I have been a customer here for years and have on MANY occasions been told that the fish I would like is "not going to work" with what I have (critters have personalities too). I am a hardcore animal lover with 2 bearded dragons, 4 parakeets, a Mali Uromastyx, a California king snake, rats, Fish only salt water, Reef tank, fresh water fish, Poison dart frogs, 2 red tail boa's, 2 cats and a dog. Sailfin is where I bought everyone (homes, food, & toys too) but the frogs, cats and dog. If you want the best information available about your purchase I would suggest a switch. As for me I will go where they care about the animals they are selling. There isn't competition in town for this locally owned business. more

I've never been very pleased with the service I recieved at Sailfin. And a friend of mine had a terrible experience just recently that involved trying for the life of her to buy some fish and the staff not helping at all. I am always displeased by the condition of their cages (too small, too crowded) for their small animals. And some of their fish products seem like they have been on the shelves for decades. I did find one part there that I could find no where else for my filter system so they do have a good selection of fish products. This is a very nice clean pet shop with a great selection but the quality of service has been disappointing. When we have tried to call in the past we have found the line to be busy many times and then when we have gone to the store to shop in person we have been treated rudely. more
