Old World Italian 6/15/2006

I enjoyed it here. It's kinda like a crowded restaurant in Italy. It is authentic. The sauces are very tasty as well as the foods and the atmosphere and hosts are charming. They have live music here which ads to the ambience. They have a guitarist and violinist walk around to serenade tables. Both men were older and smiled the whole time. You can feel the joy that they have performing for Chicagoans. It is a tad pricey here and there is valet parking which I don't care for. There are plenty of spaces on the street if you want to op to park your car there. more

Let's hear it for the violin dudes! 6/13/2006

Call me unimpressed. Call me bored and indifferent. But this "famous" place on the Northwest side left me saying "ah, so what" And this coming from a woman with Italian blood flowing through her veins! We went on an "off" day when it shouldn't have been busy, but the room was so cramped, and very uncomfortable. I literally had the guy at the table next to me keep bumping into my leg or back - and he wasn't even cute! The tables are too close together, and there is very little charm or ambience about the place (IMO), but I did enjoy the guys who walk around playing tunes on their violins - that was kind of classy. The food was just average, but the servers were pleasant and efficient. It's just not my kind of place, but I know a lot of people enjoy it here. more

Sabatino’s - retro Italian food 3/19/2006

If retro is trendy, then Sabatino’s Restaurant and Lounge is both. It is a crowded place on Irving Park with its own parking lot. If you are waiting for a table, have a drink in the lounge. I enjoyed the meaty braciole, which came with a side of pasta. The Italian dessert selection is pretty good too. more

VOTED CHICAGO'S BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT ON CITYSEA

Owner Message
  • Dimly lit with flowers on every table, this Italian-American restaurant has been the perfect date restaurant for about 25 years. Diners might have their steak or seafood entrees complimented by the serenade of strolling musicians in the main room or piano music in the bar area. Angelo Pagni, who owns the restaurant with his brother, Enzo, said Sabatino's is popular in the neighborhood for a lot of reasons, food and atmosphere chief among them. "You can ask 10 different people what they like about it and get nine different answers," he said. The dining room is set off from the good-sized bar, where the piano is a big draw on Friday and Saturday nights.
