I was looking forward to this new bakery in our neighborhood, as I love morning treats and drinks. But - unfortunately I was disappointed on several accounts. The scone I had was ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/1/2012

I've worked here for 3+ years and can't even begin to tell anyone how awesome this place is. Michelle, the owner, is incredibly focused on quality and is always looking for new and better products (for example, we recently made the switch to all-organic farm fresh eggs.) No one else in town matches her decorating skills; her custom cakes are absolutely gorgeous. And, I hear, so are the ladies that work behind the counter ;) more

Great for Birthday Cakes! 12/16/2011

I order a three layered/round cake for a friend's birthday last spring (over the phone after reading reviews and making a few other calls). The order was placed just the day before it was needed and it turned out great! This was my first time ordering a custom cake and was not sure what I wanted or what to expect, though the staff was helpful and I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout. I would use Rise & Shine Bakery again (despite the location being out of my way). Pros: helpful staff, yummy cake Cons: pricey, location (republished review from 2008) more

Can you say, Starbucks instead? 12/1/2011

I am sorry to say I am very unpleased with the product from this bakery, I would rather give my business and hard earned money to a reliable location. more

HAIR in my birthday cake! 4/29/2011

It's really hit or miss at this place. I've gotten kolaches with no filling. Good thing I ate it there because the girl behind the counter didn't believe me until I showed her. She cut open several others & there was no filling in them either. more

Awesome neighborhood bakery!!! 12/5/2009

This place makes the best kolaches ever!!! They are so great, that I had them put some (in frosting, of course) on my son's birthday cake! BTW Michelle, it was a huge hit...thx for making this for him on such short notice! He loved it!I love waving to the guy on 2222 in the morning! I just wish y'all had a drive through! Your staff are always friendly and wonderful! I guess a downside would be that you are located a couple doors down from my dentist, and I'm always tempted to come in a grab something sinful! You are awesome!!! Pros: best kolaches, cinnamon rolls, cakes, coffee drinks, staff, Cons: I wish they had a drive-thru! more

never disappointed 5/29/2009

My wife and I were never disappointed by the quality or prices at Rise & Shine... and I certainly don't understand the vitriol in some of these reviews. We ordered a large batch of cupcakes for a party and the guests LOVED them. The staff has always been friendly and professional. Don't take the negative reviews here too seriously - if you want to know what people really think of Rise & Shine just look at the line on a Saturday morning. Pros: flapjacks more

Very disappointed 4/8/2009

Being a former professional artisan bread baker I was excited to have a bakery so close to where I live. We had just moved into town so I did not have the time to bake my daughter's birthday cupcakes myself. While nicely decorated, the cupcakes tasted old and dry. I hate to say this, but the cupcakes I recently tasted from a local grocery chain were better and probably cheaper. Pros: conveniently located Cons: poor quality product more

Excellent Food and Wonderful Service 3/14/2009

R&S is a wonderful bakery with really excellent food and a super friendly staff. Their kolachies are out of this word, as well as their sweet pastries, and their migas is better than you will find at most mexican restraunts. To top this off it is locally owned and operated! Thank you for an amazing experience! Pros: Friendly atmosphere and amazing pastries! Cons: I live south, and its way up north! more

worst bakery in austin 1/6/2009

I can not believe people liked the food at this bakery. I mean, it is pretty simple to make baked goods. But what a waste of money! I am not too picky, but nothing I bought was worth going back for. I am glad there are a lot of good bakeries to choose from and this is not one of them. This was like school cafeteria food. Cons: the food more

My favorite bakery 5/24/2008

Everything is delicious and a great atmosphere with friendly staff. I try to make it there at least once a week for a treat or two ... more

Response from the owner 4/24/2008

AnnieP2008 (3 reviews below) and cs1901 (1 review below), you both sound like the same person. I am the owner of Rise & Shine Bakery. If I or one of my employees have done something to upset you, please call me so we can rectify the problem. The 2 reviews you have written using different names say the same thing, so if there is something about my food or service you don't like, let's talk about it and get it resolved. more

Lone Star Bakery is better. 4/21/2008

Owner unfriendly. Cakes below average. Icing sugary glop. Cakes dry, kolaches greasy. I would take the time to try a better established bakery that is customer service oriented. Pros: Parking Cons: food, service more

Great Cakes, Fair price 4/19/2008

Purchased two cakes from Rise and Shine, both were excellent. The price was fair and the taste of both cakes was just plain great. I like using a local shop that cares about their customers. Keep it up. Pros: Great Service more

over priced and rude 4/14/2008

Over priced and the owner was not friendly. The cake I ordered was really just a large cupcake, supposed to be 6 inch. It tasted old and like a mix . The icing was lard and sugar, YUK! Pros: location Cons: everything else, price, taste, service more

Great on all accounts 2/16/2008

I've been going to Rise and Shine since September 2007. The staff are friendly the kolaches are very good. On weekends, the Migas are fantastic. The coffe is certainly a lot better than the swill consumed by Starbuckstards. After living in the Pacific Northwest for a few years, where the mom and pop coffee shop is a standard fare I'm very pleased to find a good local coffee shop here in the neighborhood. Pros: Great food, friendly staff, pastry chef who has been touched by God Cons: Getting popular and the occasional crowd more

Pretty good kolaches, good cupcakes. Friendly staff! 1/20/2007

I think they've matured as a shop since the first reviewer posted. I grab a kolache at least twice a week, and stop in on weekends for a late brunch (or a cupcake on my way home). I like the fact that the staff is small; they recognize me, we chat about random things, and in general, they're friendly. I get the feeling that if I asked for some custom-made creation, they'd try it out, and let me taste it. :-) Pros: Convenient location to Steiner & Riverplace, opens early for breakfast, good cupcakes, kolaches Cons: some items are expensive, hard to spot from the street more

Disappointing 10/2/2006

I was looking forward to this new bakery in our neighborhood, as I love morning treats and drinks. But - unfortunately I was disappointed on several accounts. The scone I had was more like a greasy biscuit, and the chai tea latte was not good at all. My husband had a kolache, which was fine, but nothing special. And to top it off the prices are a bit high. I don't mind paying for quality, but this really wasn't it. Perhaps they need a bit more time to get on their feet, but I'm sadly disappointed in the meantime. It's hard to pass up Starbucks for the local guys when the local guys just aren't that good... Pros: Locally owned Cons: Nothing great, Pricey more
