Unless there is a teacher you love that is doing a workshop don't bother visiting Pratt Fine Art Center 1/14/2011

If you like revisiting High School with all the drama included, I would not recommend this school or facility. This place does not make it easy for one to move freely through the facilities. One must jump through hoops, even if they are a Master to even use any facility at this center. If you wave a hand full of hundred dollar bills at their door step you might get an happy smile and warm welcome your first visit, and then after they have all your money the people that run Pratt will act like you don't even exist or couldn't possibly be of use in any other way. If you are not battling out when to use the expensive facility then you would be ego battling the ones that have been hogging the facility for any free minute outside of the course you have chosen. I do not recommend this facility, it was the worse experience I have ever had at any Artist Community. If you are working in Glass I Highly recommend Pilchuck's Summer Camp or even Wheaton Village or Haystack in Maine. Don't go to Pratt unless you like throwing money into the toilet. I gave them one star for existing to make other facilities look stupendous. more

Pratt Fine Arts Center 5/24/2006

I just threw a birthday party for my father in law at the Pratt Fine Arts Institute. All of the attendees (60 guests) were encouraged to make glass art - fusing glass, blowing glass and glass bead-making. There were instructors on-hand who were great and guests now have a unique piece of art that they made. The professional glass blowers started off the evening with the birthday boy blowing huge glass bowl that he helped design. We turned the sculpture studio into a buffet room, hired a band and had a great time. There was food (outside caterer) and drinks and art and birthday cake. Everyone loved it. Anyway, if you are looking for a totally unique party...call up Pratt...be one of the first to have this new kind of party. Also, feel free to contact me with questions, etc more

Please, please, please take a class here! 8/17/2005

I took one of the "warm glass" classes at Pratt last year, and still can't get over what a wonderful place it is. The variety of courses offered are amazing, and the amount of one on one time with outstanding artists is top notch. Be a member, or start taking classes as soon as possible. It may seem expensive, but it's sooooo worth it. They have courses for every skill level, so don't feel like you have to be an "artist" to have fun. more

Art Classes Taught by Artists 7/25/2005

The Pratt Fine Arts Center is a great place to take all kinds of arts classes. They have everything from glassblowing to metalsmithing to basic drawing and everything inbetween. Pratt is centrally located and the classes are often in the evenings. I have taken metalsmithing and was totally impressed, if I do say so myself, with the abilities I was able to come out with. My father just took a basic drawing class in a weekend and it totally changed the way he looks at holding a pencil. Classes are taught by professional artists and teachers - it feels great to get to know some local artists that you can actually see when you go on the local gallery circuit. more
