The food is actually good! The service and really more the attitude sucks. They treat you like you're a dumb 'americain!' I speak fluent french and I felt much like a 'tourist' ...

Quaint, Lovley atmosphere/Great Food! 1/7/2010

After surveying the row of restaurants on Belden Place, my friend and I chose Plouf and had a delicious meal. Such a quaint restaurant! Played great music while we dined on the Muscles, Carpaccio and the special desert. No wine because we were being good after the holidays but next time I will sample from their great selection. The staff was very attentive and my overall experience was great. Will definitley go again. Pros: Muscles were divine more

Amazing Mussels!! 11/23/2007

I've gone to Plouf several times both for dinner and lunch and everytime was amazing! If you're not fan of mussels, this isn't the place for you. Their menu offers other seafood and meat selections but they're not as good and their portion and prices are not equivalent to the mussels menu. Also another must is an order of frites along with your mussels! Don't expect amazing service and don't expect to take any of your leftover seafood home (safety regulations). It's in a great location - Belden Lane and it really feels like you're walking along a Parisien neighborhood with tables set outside and a hostess standing outside to greet you. Highly recommend dining at night when the crowd is a little bit busier and the alley is lit up. more

Pluof 10/27/2007

The customer service was unfriendly and rude. The service ruined the meal. After a long wait for a table(had reservations), service was rushed. The utensils and plates were not clean. No space between tables. Food was good except for salad. The salad consisted of a few pieces of lettuce with bland dressing. Overall, unpleasant and tense environment. The fond memories of Plouf I had for so many years have been erased by this dining experience more

Great French Bistro 8/18/2006

Mussels were amazing. I had the SAUTEED ALASKAN HALIBUT it was great. She had the AUSTRIAN STYLE PORK CUTLETS a little different bit was very good. The VANILLA BEAN CREME BRULEE was spectacular the best I have ever had. The service was on point. They didnt bring out the Entree to early they let us finish the mussels. I will be back next trip to SF. more

A little taste of Paris 8/6/2006

I have a mix feeling about Plouf. On one hand, I love the foods, wines and the ambiance of this restaurant. However, I'm not a big fan of the service. I have been here so many times; some days the service were great and fast, but other days, it could be a bit rude/ignorant (I heard it's a European thing =p) Pros: Delicious mussels and pomme frites, great ambiance Cons: Service can be dissapointing more

Not coming back 6/5/2006

I had the Mussels Provencale and Bouillabaisse. The food is too salty and the quality of seafood is sub-par! We also had to wait over half an hour from when we finished our appetizer until we got our entrees. more

Great seafood, casual setting, nice ambiance 5/23/2006

We've dined here several times - the food's been consistently good (do try the mussles and tuna tartar), service is a bit rushed (only because they're Very busy), but our waiter was attentive, plates were cleared promptly and everyone, starting with the hostess was professional and curtious. To make the best of Plouf, come around 5:30, when they first open (make reservations!), sit outside, if weather permits, order a nice bottle of wine, desert's a must - enjoy. more

Service rushed, but the food we had was great... 4/1/2006

Just went and had a meal that would entice me back. Our service was a bit odd in that the waiter seemed a bit full of himself and insincere in his friendliness, and I could hardly understand a word. I had to ask him to repeat things. The service was also rushed--I say, is there a plate shortage in the kitchen?... But the food, calamari (superb) oysters (small but great), ahi tuna and fish and chips and pommes frittes (all excellent). I think they need to tune up their wait staff, train them a bit better, and it will be ok. I'm going back... make a reservation, regardless of the day of the week!.. Pros: Pommes frittes, Fish and Chips, Calamari and Ahi Tuna Cons: Poor language skills, Rushed plate clearing more

Great outdoor dinning but 2/7/2006

the entrees were just ok or almost not great. Oysters were awesome. I would go back for oyster & drinks but all of us felt the main dishes were not that good. This applies to the fish dishes and the steak which I had to cut away a lot of fat. Oysters were really good. But if it had not been for the exceptionally warm SF weather and dinning outside I would have been very disapointed and the weather has nothing to do with the restaurant. Overall diasappointed in the food. They need to step it up. With aggressive wait staff and poor tasting dishes just another overated tourist place. It wasn't bad but wastn't great. Pros: outside, oysters Cons: main plates, entrees, dishes more

Miss 8/25/2005

Medicore food, mussels were the size of my fingernail, entrees were disappointing (who puts marinara sauce with halibut). The servers and busboys were unusually eager to clear the plates and glasses from our meal the minute we were finished. Decor was let for the imagination. Only plus is the outdoor seating in Beldon Pl. Pros: Bread Cons: Food, Service, Bill more

Plouf should go Poof! 8/16/2005

DISAPPOINTING! Our waiter pretty much ignored the five of us in our group for the single women at the next booth. My ahi tuna was to be cooked rare, but came back well-done. I would have sent it back but could never find our waiter. Another dish was to have bass with cranberries, but came back as a piece of bass on top of pinto beans??? When we finally got the waiter we asked about the cranberries and he responded in a French accent ""bass with cranberries and nosh"", but we still couldn't find the cranberries?? Pinto beans = cranberries? Over salted and took over 30 minutes for our meal. When we complained to the host he turned around and blamed us. He said we should have told him our concerns when he came around to our table. HE NEVER CAME TO OUR TABLE! Go at your own risk. Pros: Nice hostess Cons: Rude waiters, Long wait for dinner, Salty food more

Yumm!! 6/20/2005

Love this place!!! I have been there several times and loved it every time. The service is good, I love the location, Belden place is great, the food is amazing. It is good for a large group, but it might be a little crowded for an intimate, romantic dinner. The tables are very close together. more

offensive service 4/11/2005

Plouf is a good restaurant in terms of food and service. Nothing mind-blowing, but a solid meal. However, I was there last week and had utterly obnoxious service. Our water glasses were removed while we were still drinking at the end of the meal. Not only were they removed prematurely, but the waiter stuck his fingers into the glasses. Our party was howling at how utterly rude it was. Then my dinner napkin was pulled out from under my arm. This is unacceptable after we had had a 3-course meal and had not in any way overstayed our welcome. I called the restaurant and gave them the opportunity to address this rude behavior, and they did not even have the curtesy to call me back. I will make it clear to my many friends in the Bay Area to scratch this restaurant off their list of places to go. more

AMAZING!!! 12/8/2004

I ventured to Plouf after researching a French place on citysearch and let me just say that it was certainly an amazing experience. The carpaccio was titilating, the seared ahi was perfect, the lava cake was ... was... oh man! I intended to just have an entree, in and out, but the service was so attentive (had 4 different people asking me if everything was to my satisfaction) that i splurged! And was it worth it! Ask for remy! Pros: Food, Service more

I don't understand the hype! 12/8/2004

I went here last night and was completely underwhelmed by the whole experience. I found the waiter to be aloof and condesending (he exuded a fake friendliness) and felt it was inappropriate for him to scold a table busser for clearing one of his tables right next to us. The Shrimp Crostini was a disappointment. For $21, I expect to get a bit more than 6 small shrimp on Rosemary skewers. The crispy Duck was good, but not ""crispy"". Te Pommes frites were not hot and tasted unsalted (adding salt to warm fries at the table doesn't do any good). The ""warm"" chocolate lava cake was cold when delivered to our table. They brought a new one, but that wasn't much warmer. If this is what San Francisco means by French Bistro, then the city has a lot to learn. I will not be returning to this restaurant. Pros: Friendly hostess Cons: , Overpriced wine, Tight spaces more

Exquisite! 9/1/2004

Get the muscles even if youve never had them. We also took our waiters recommendation and ordered the special which was seared tuna. Both meals were incredible. I also recommend the Dessert for two which has a mini tart, creme brulee, chocolate mouse and some other goodies. Pros: Reasonably priced, Fun atmosphere more

service 6/2/2004

I've been to plouf twice. On the first visit we were seated outside and on the second visit we dined inside the restaurant. On both visits the waiter and staffs were very polite and attentive. Unlike their neighbor Cafe Tiramisu, which has the most rude waiter in Belden Place. Pros: great service, great food, inexpensive Cons: , no parking more
