Weekend Beer 11/7/2011

Great place to grab a beer at the weekend, parking is always difficult and its always busy but there is a nice vibe to this place. I dig it. more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! You're better off eating at McDonalds 10/29/2011

Once a bright spot on tourist alley (Hollywood Blvd.) the Pig & Whistle has become simply foul, and that covers both the food and management. Crap for service. Awful, truly awful. And they're trying to become some exclusive club on Friday nights, charging to get in (with rude, aggressive, goonish security guards to boot). Save your money and avoid the headache. You're better off eating at McDonalds two blocks down. more

Wow. What A Scam. 1/20/2011

This place is a joke & a scam. I don't know why so many others here rave so much about the architecture--This place looks just like any ordinary Irish/British dump you'd find in Boston, NY or Philly. At least the dumps in Boston leave you drunk and full. The happy hour drinks were limited to draft beer & 'well' drinks, which for some reason didn't include martinis... just one shot of one type of booze w/ one mixer only. (other places count fake martinis as well drinks) OK fine. Fiance forewent his preferred Newcastle for something cheap, and I got a couple Cape Codders. Again, it was a one-shot-only of booze drink. Not much to tell. The service was slow and bad, but that should be expected from a dumpy bar--No qualms there. The FOOD is the much bigger problem. Fiance was starved and so ordered a cheeseburger- not on the happy hour menu. He said it was fine, but the price ($12 or $15 bucks??) was a little much for such a dirty dump. I wanted to keep it cheap, so I got the 'chicken fingers' from the HH menu. I quote 'chicken fingers' because it was not chicken fingers. This will be hard to believe, but --I swear-- it was ONE CHICKEN FINGER sliced in 4 pieces the size of a french fry. I couldn't believe it! $6 for A SINGLE chicken finger??? Scam Scam Scam. Never again will I be taken by P&W--Paying out $60 to leave still hungry and with no buzz is just not cool. A regular side of chicken fingers (more than one finger) and a cosmo at regular price from another establishment would have been cheaper, and more fulfilling. more

excellent restaurant! 1/18/2009

When my mom and I went on a trip to L.A, the girl who worked at the front desk of our hotel recommended Pig N Whistle, so we decided to try it out. I'm so glad we did! This restaurant was by far the best one I ate at on my trip to Los Angeles. I ordered the california nacho's, which were honestly the best food I have ever tasted. The plate they give you is huge and I could only eat half (and i can eat a lot of food). It was only about 10 dollars so it was a really good price. My mom was also very pleased with the menu and also the service. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who plans to go to L.A. I can't wait to eat there again when my mom, my friend and I go back to L.A this march. Pros: the food, the location, the service Cons: nothing more

Great Hollywood Experience 2/15/2008

After reading the previous reviews, I was hesitant to have our Valentine Dinner at the Pig N Whistle, even to the point that when we walking to the restaurant we almost chose the Italian Restaurant around the corner! I am very glad, however, that we stuck with our original choice. From the greeting at the door to the final taste of our delicious desert, it was first rate. The ambience of the restaurant is true old style Hollywood, the service was prompt and pleasant and the food was delicious. I am not one to usually take the time to write a review, but this was a very good restaurant and the reviews I had read did not seem to do it justice. I appaud this restaurant, would highly recommend it and will definately revisit it in the future. Pros: Decor, Service, Food more

Excellent dining experience 2/7/2008

I was in town on business, and my associates and I went to the pig n whistle for dinner. We were a large group without a reservation, but the hostess was very accomodating and arranged a table for us. The food was absolutely divine-- I recommend the ny steak or penne a la vodka, and definitely the chocolate molten cake or apple pie. The atmoshere was dim and alluring, and the space itself has gorgeous high ceilings and comfortable booths and is very reminiscent of old Hollywood. Our waitress was a lovely young girl (whom my wife thought resembled natalie wood!) and she was completely charming and took the time to give us info. and directions even though she was extremely busy. We were also impressed by the manager (lucy?) who could actually speak to each member of our party in their native language (we are an international group)!\r This was overall a wonderful experience, and we will definitely return whenever we are in town on business. Highly recommended! Pros: Great food and great service Cons: Cocktails a little pricey more

By the numbers 12/15/2007

Ok so the place has no cover, but parking is $15. Street parking is a nightmare, so be prepared to pay to park. A rum and coke is $7, a 7&7 is $9, a jack and coke is $9, a long island ice tea is $11.\r The atmosphere of the place is quite nice. The bartenders are good looking. You don't have to wait for a drink. The booths are good sized, and there is an out door patio where you can sit as well. The dj was spinning all the popular club music, great selection and great transitions between songs. There were plenty of guys there, so ladies show up. The wood floors make the place good for dancing. A bacholerette party showed up like an hour after we got there, and we had a blast because of it. more

Best Meatball Sandwich in the world 10/4/2007

We had the pleasure of enjoying lunch this past August. It was so memorable, we decided to write and ""brag"" about it. The service was quiet, and refined and the meatball sandwich was the best I had ever tasted. We would recommend this place highly. Thank you!\r Pros: Quiet service - but effient - the food was great! more

Never again! 5/29/2007

Women, take heed and BEWARE! This place is ran by the most belligerent, beguiling management I have ever encountered. If you enjoy being called the ?b-word? and your race being belittled (by the staff), then by all means- this is your hangout! But, for all the beautiful women, and men, who are just really looking for a down-to-earth, all around good vibe spot- this is NOT the place to support. We work hard everyday out here and the last thing anyone should have to go thru is being disrespected by people you are giving your hard earned money to. This place is a joke! Respect yourselves people, and each other. Cons: The overall experience is a big THUMBS DOWN! more

Aside from the beautiful interior, what a nightmare! 3/2/2007

It's close to the Egyptian Theater, which is great. It is beautiful inside, with big comfy booths. However, that's where the advantages of this place stop dead. I've been in before when the hostess wanted to seat us outside with people who had brought their dogs to eat dinner with them. I declined. Sorry, I like dogs and all, just don't want to eat dinner with them. Last night, I was seeing a movie at the Egyptian, so I thought I'd try again. The hostess was put out at having to do her job. It was a chilly night, but she asked if we wanted to sit inside or out. I was adamant about wanting to sit inside. So, she seated us right in front of the open front door of the restaurant where it was cold! My boyfriend asked if we could sit in a booth. To this, she replied that she shouldn't since we were just two people, but when we looked around, all the booths were filled with no more than couples! She finally grudgingly seated us in a booth. The waiter was completely unfriendly. We ordered, then got the wrong food. No big deal, our correct orders came out a few minutes later, but my chicken was undercooked to the point of a health hazard. Our waiter never came by to see how we were doing, so I didn't even get the opportunity to send the raw chicken back to the kitchen. It's too bad that this place is run so poorly. It would be a nice Hollywood spot. Pros: Beautiful interior, great old Hollywood landmark. Cons: Horrible service, hazardous food, parking, expensive. more

You can find better! 1/14/2007

When I first walked in to the Pig 'n' Whistle I was certain that I had made a good decision for dinner. The building is beautiful inside, a great looking atmosphere. I came in after a show down the street and the staff seemed a little annoyed that I had chosen to eat there. I decided that to try their shephards pie thinking it most closely matched the style of the restaurant, it was fair at best. I know that shephards pie can be a little bland but there was no attempt made to add flavor. A friend I was with had the pasta and reported the same thing, decent, but somewhat bland. The one good note, the soup was enjoyed by all. And maybe it was just the night that we were there, but, the place smelled like mildew. If you are in the area, you can do better than the Pig 'N' Whistle. Pros: Beautiful dining room during the evening. Cons: Mildew smell. more

If you wanna be low key 1/2/2007

This place was very casual and the atmosphere was good enough for you and your friends to be left on your own and have a good time with your group. Since we went for dinner and some drinks it was not very crowded. However overall the value was so-so, not great food for the price paid for it. My favorite was the nachos. This is a place I would go if me and my friends had nothing better to do and wanted to go ""out' but nothing crazy or over the top. Pros: Low-key and not crowded Cons: average food (bit pricey for it) more

It was ok 11/20/2006

I went there for a friends birthday and it was not good. The crowd seemed to me to be young and immature. Which was really sad because the place is nice itself but just the people that went there seemed a little immature more

Great Ambience, Little Else 3/22/2006

I have had nothing but negative experiences with this place. The ambience is good, but the benefits stop there. The waitstaff is rude, incompetent and snobby - most likely because they're all sulking over their failed auditions. The price for drinks is exorbitant and the quality of the food enormously poor. As an L.A. native I would NEVER recommend this place to a tourist. Go to the cat and the Fiddle instead. Cons: Dumb. rude waitstaff, Expensive, poor Quality Food more

When all else fails... 7/10/2005

Pig and whistle is the spot that wont let you down. On the weekends when all clubs have you waiting in line outside with no one inside, this place is about the business. Entertaining people. They are always playing great music. Everysong. The drinks are way too expensive though. 2 cocktails are literally $20. Cheap cover $5 or $10. Door guys are great. They get you in and keep the line moving. No real dress code. Just come, dance, and drink. The back room is usually dead but get drinks there if the main room is packed. You can chill back there or even take your group of friends back there for your own party. But when the lights come on, you gotta get the hell out of there. Bouncers dont play. Pros: cheap cover, great music, dancing, no dress code Cons: way expensive drinks, closes PROMPTLY more

Burger joint with ambience and alcohol 3/11/2005

Went there for lunch before catching a movie. The ambience is great (sans the TV's, which were showing a video game or something. TVs aside, great deco/aztec(?) design is worth seeing at least once. The service was fine, the waitress was very attentive. The food is your basic American pub fare - real average. Very touristy - kids, grandparents, shorts, baseball caps, tennis shoes... you get the picture. Pros: Great Ambience, Prices Resonable, Service Attentive Cons: Hollywood Beggars, Parking, TVs more

Great! 1/23/2005

Beautiful space, great food and wonderful service! Check out the back room with a full bar and canopy beds. Such a gem in the middle of Hollywood. more

Could Be Great!!! 11/22/2004

Great location in the heart of Hollywood. Great atmosphere and history (yeah the TV's are a little much) The trouble is the service. Hostess was just putting in her hours and one could tell she wished she were somewhere else. The waitress took our order and disappeared. Food came out quickly by a VERY friendly server (the only one there probably not wanting to be discovered). Had to get up and track down the waitress for some more ice tea - She abruptly said ""I'm off"" (BTW we were the only ones sitting in the booths!) She reluctantly took my glass and filled it up with warm tea (getting ice would have required her walking three feet to the bar). Needless to say - IF I ever go back, I'll sit at the bar.... Pros: Location, History Cons: , Service, Attitude more

fun but service sucks 4/10/2004

i recently had my birthday here and it was really great. the manager was very accomodating, however their waitresses really suck. theyre rude and slow and dont really care about pleasing the customers and jus wanted to be discovered. but the music is SO good, great friday nite dj. good dancing once everyone gets up. fried calamari is to die for! best apple martini and long island ive ever had. Pros: great for big groups, nice management, awesome food & music more

It's Poppin' 2/2/2003

Yeah, Club Bizarre is poppin' at the Pig N Whistle on friday nights. Cool mixed crowd and good looking people. The dress code is relaxed. They have real good music. In the front they got a live band playin'. In the back room they got Hip-Hop all night. Like I said its popin' more
