Going out to lunch on a work day has its ups and downs. The upside is you get out of the office. Down side, you get into a routine of five or so restaurants that, can't go wrong but after a while, leave you with a hankering for something new.
Today, I found that something new. Picolinos.
Tucked away in Ballard on 32nd Avenue is the best Italian food I have ever tasted. The friendly wait staff sat my friend and I down, letting us know the specials of the day whilst setting down a basket of homemade, fluffy focaccia bread and fresh pesto sauce. I soon realized I was eating my way through the white clouds, up to heaven.
Ordering a Prosciutto Crudo Pizzette and the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, we found ourselves in heaven. Raving about the airy, fresh tomato sauce, pizza crust that is fluffy and not too thin, and the homemade pasta that is cooked to perfection.
The dishes are family style so I recommend getting a couple dishes and sharing with your friends and family. After all, isn't that what the Italian lifestyle is all about? Ciao!
Pros: atmosphere, homemade food and cafe
Cons: Hard to find if you don't drive around Ballard.
