Amazing Experience 9/22/2009

My Uncle took me here as a nice celebrate for graduating form CUliary School. The day started out with a personalized menu, and the host knowing exactly why we were there. The menu and food were beyond words, so I'll leave it at AMAZING. I didn't want the meal to end. Each couse was a surprise on a plate and made me happy. Simply amazing. After, they provided me with a tour of the kitchen, since I could apprecaite the line and the back workings. Such a great day, really nice staff. Pros: Fine dining at it's best Cons: Too quiet more

An unhappy and unfurtunate event 5/28/2009

I`m Brazilian was in New York last April. On 28th . I went to Per Se for dinner with my sister, my mom and some friends and we had a wonderful time. Unfortunately I forgot my wallet with all my documents and $ 800 on the table. I realized that on the other day in the morning and I called the restaurant straight away and I was told my wallet was there. When I came back to pick it up, I could see that all the money had disappeared. I didn´t even have time to complain as the door were closed behind me and nobody answered my calls. I could only contact the manager at the end of the afternoon when he apologized and said he couldn´t do anything, just offered me a free dinner. I felt miserable and shocked, I understand I was in a big city, which can be dangerous and violent, however I know I had left my wallet there and the money was stolen there. What made me even more frustrated are the way I was treated and the quality of the place, also known as an expensive restaurant. The whole bill was $ 2.150. more

One of those restaurants you have to try 5/17/2009

Managed to get a reservation at Per Se 1 month in advance. I was quite surprise as The French Laundry requires at least a 2 month lead time. I'm wondering if this is just because of the poor economy. The food was great but I had expected a bit more from a 3 Michelin restaurant. Maybe its because they change their menu everyday (?). Whilst beautiful, I found the location a bit strange being in the Time Warner building. I would have thought Thomas Keller would choose a quaint neighborhood Uptown. more

Excellent 5/4/2009

The service was excellent, with each dish served, the wait staff was friendly and accomodating. The food was great. At the end of the tasting menu, they displayed what must have been a box of beautiful homade chocolates and they were able to name the filling of each one. They provided a goodie bag to take home and even offered to out in a good word at their sister restaurant in Napa Valley, Laundry, should you want to try that location. The place was clean, I didnt sit there for hours waiting for each course. The food was delicate, tasty and what I would call woth effort. The dishes were prepared with the techinal standard you would expect from a high end restaurant. Pros: Service was impeccable Cons: ambience was a bit dry (too business) more

perfect experience 3/16/2009

We've been testing a lot of New York places and per se is hands down the best food, service and atmosphere, and price all in one. When we entered we were sat promptly and graciously. None of that over the top New York you're not cool enough to be eating here. Our server was very attentive and the food was fantastic. The whole scene is a must do for anyone living here or just visiting. Pros: food, service, design Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Fabulous 9/16/2008

We went with friends who were on their honeymoon. The restaurant pulled out all the stops and we even got a tour of their amazing kitchen. I think we ended up with more than the standard 9 courses with all the little chef extras that kept appearing. Like a previous reviewer we would all recomend the wine pairing, which is a taste experience all in itself. The ladies particularly appreciated the footstools for their purses. They have no issues adjusting their menu to food allergies or diet restrictions and every member of staff we met, made us feel as if we were the only people in the room. The view is also exceptional across Columbus Circle to Central park. Only down side was the table cloth & napkins were not lint free and only came in white, so we were all covered in white specs when we left. However, the 5hrs we spent dinning was fabulous and it was a once in a lifetime experience we all thoroughtly enjoyed Pros: Food, Service, Wine List, Ambience Cons: Table cloths & napkins don't come in black or lint free more

SUPER! 7/23/2008

The food, service, wine list, and dining room were all amazing. We shared a bottle of champagne. It was nice. Everything on the menu looked 100% delicious and I had a hard time choosing what to get. The servers were all super pro and took very good are of us, going so far as to snap of a picture of me and my coworker. I was so happy I found a great place to spend my work's money at! more

Almost Perfect... 4/3/2008

I reserved two months in advanced, and after sitting down to a gorgeous view of Central Park, my girlfriend and I ordered the tasting menu (10 courses) at $275 each and two glasses of wine at about $20 each (The Elyse bursts of flavor). There was an amuse bouche of pastry puffs with melted gruyere followed by a salmon with creme fraiche in black sesame cone. The crunchy nuttiness of the cone and sweetness of the salmon was amazing. The oyster and pearls was awesome with the salty tartness of the caviar melding with the sweet and smoothness of the oyster in butter. My favorite app was the foie gras terrine with pastachio butter and apricot gelee. Everything was so smooth and rich, complimenting each other perfectly. The beef entree was cooked perfectly had a full flavor yet was buttery. Colors on all the dishes were beautiful. The Asian style striped bass, While it was perfectly cooked and was a knockout in it's own right, was too "familiar" (as I'm Taiwanese) but tasted great and was perfectly executed. After 6 or 7 course (can't remember which) came a cheese plate which i felt was the weakest part of the dinner. I didn't get their mix of pickled beets with the cheese, as it didn't work for me. The cheese by itself was milky and lovely though. Desert were top notch, with my "bread pudding" as it was described being airy and light with the sorbets so smooth you couldn't feel it but could taste the full flavor. We were full by the time the chocolates came around so they boxed us a few and let us take it home along with these fruit and nut bars which were killer the next morning with coffee. Overall with 3 drinks, it came out to 700 service included, but we left another 50 since service was impeccable. Overall, was it worth 350 a person? I think maybe 250-300 would have gotten repeated visits from me, but this was an experience of a lifetime. Pros: Food, view, service, ambience, very intimate Cons: Paid Parking, jacket required (I'm not used to it) more

WOW... 3/19/2008

wow ...................wow .................did I forget to mention? wwwooowww... My fiancee and I are dining fanatics...especially when it comes to sushi, steak, or french. Combined, I am pretty sure we have been to almost ALL the best and famous restaurant in Manhattan. Per Se is in a league of their own. I was blown away all the way from their appetizers to their main course to their desserts. Funny - I was actually sick for few days before that day. Believe or not, I actually felt a lot better after the dinner. The wonders of food. Added Plus - The staff was extremely professional. And the wine sommelier did an excellent job with her recommendations. My fiancee's folks were very pleased. In my opinion, Per Se is the best restaurant in NYC. Pros: Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Professional staff. Best restaurant in NYC. Cons: hmm...maybe the price? Although I still think it is worth it. more

Unbelievable 2/15/2008

I was expecting the typical fancy meal. Small portions, snobbish wait staff etc. However, this restaurant went above and beyond my expectations. The food is exceptional, the service is perfect and the ambience is great. i would highly reccomend this place to anyone who is looking for a great restaurant experience. My girlfriend and I were treated to a tour of the kitchen afterwards, too. It is a bit price (275 per person) but it is well worth it. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more
