Editorial review from GrubHub 2/21/2014

I'm giving Pappardella "only 2 stars" but this 100% due to their grubhub/delivery/order/process execution. The food from the restaurant, if you can get it, is actually closer to 5 stars. But of the 5 times I've ordered from them via GrubHub, only 1 time came in on time and accurate, 2 times fairly late (over an hour), 1 time was ridiculously late (nearly 2 hours), and last night's order, while on time, was the incorrect order (and yes, i checked what was in the system against what I received)... to make matters worse, grubhub's policy of giving someone 5 to 10 dollars when something is wrong does nothing to fix things... after receiving the wrong food, why would i want a $5 dollar credit and a note saying that "grubhub is sorry but the restaurant is closed and there is nothing they can do...." not sure if the same issues exist with seamless, but seams i should at least try it out... more

Try the Picnic for 2 6/21/2011

Saw on their face book page that they were selling a ""Picnic for two"", and it seemed like a great idea... For $45 I got all this great food, drinks, desserts and and a picnic blanket (really more of a plastic table cloth) and took my girl to Central park... Ended up being an awesome time and a great date... We took the picnic to the boat house and ate everything on a little row boat... We liked everything so much we went back to the restaurant for dinner after wards... I'd recommend this place to anybody... Think I might even buy another picnic for July 4 weekend or labor day... Also I saw they do a $40 Brunch pre fix thing, I'm going to check that out as well... Thanks Pappardella keep up the good work!!! more

Great Italian Restaurant Upper West Side! 5/2/2011

Love this place!! It's delicious food, great atmosphere and really friendly staff... Not expensive either... Try the Pappardella Buttera, it's a pasta in a vodka sauce with sweet and spicy sausage... Also they are a block from central park and do these amazing picnic baskets that you take out with you.. Check them out when you are on the upper west side you'll be happy you did... more

What happened to this place? 7/26/2010

We have been Pappardella lovers for years, and it's been our go-to place for all occasions. We just went on Saturday after not having been there a few months, and we were so disappointed. Not sure if the management has changed, although we'd never seen the woman running things before. We ordered our favorite standyby, Chicken Milanese, and happily awaited our meal. When it arrives it had some kind of Thousand Island type dressing on it that had never been put on it before, and just begged the question 'At an Italian restaurant?"" We were so disappointed in our food that we probably won't go back. So sad. We just loved this place for so long. Pros: Great ambience Cons: Management change? Food not as good more

Decent Meal for two starving people. 3/22/2009

I was here last night (03.21.09) for my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend. I mean in all honest, we were looking for something low key. We just ran all around the city and came from the Museum of Natural History nearby. We just stumbled upon this place and decided to go in because we were starving at that point. There were good points and bad points. The bread was stale but the Carpaccio was amazing. I thought our pasta dishes were very good too. My boyfriends gnocchi was slightly over cooked though. The tiramisu was certainly not the best ive ever had. It was way more marscapone and hardly any espresso. Our cappuccinos were great too but 5 bucks for coffee. What are you starbucks?? All in all it was great food for two starving tired people. Were pretty easygoing but i mean there are some points that could have been better. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Delicious! Elegent! Great service! 1/7/2009

West Side Italian 11/21/2011 9/4/2008

Pappardella Restorante is one of the best Italian Restuarants on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This comfortable restaurant is popular with ""the locals and the tourists alike"" for simple pleasures like tasty pastas, fish and meat dishes with friendly, efficient and excellent service at ""reasonable prices."" If you prefer to sit outside, there is a wonderful outdoor seating area available.\r \r Dishes at Pappardella are well prepared and served with an amiable touch. The soft lighting sets the tone at this longtime UWS Italian restaurant where the cooking is on par with the ""courteous"" service.\r \r The bar has a wide selection of mixed drinks and wines by the glass or bottle. Some of the delicious appetizers I have enjoyed at Pappardella have been Fresh Antipasto Platters, Mozzarella Caprese, (Fresh Mozzarella, Vine Ripe Tomato, Basil and Balsamic Reduction) a great Caesar Salad, a nice selection of gourmet Pizzas as well as a great Cheese Selection. Entrees include the Ravioli D'astice (Fantastic Lobster Ravioli), the Pappardlla Buttera (Pasta with Sweet and Spicy Sauage in a Vodka Sauce), the Spaghetti Polpette (Pasta with Meatballs in a spicy tomato Sauce), Filetto de Salmone Raspighi (Seared Filet of Wild King Salmon, Vitello al Parmigiano (Veal Cutlet), Pollo Milanese (crispy free range Chicken Cutlet), Agnello alla Griglia (grilled Rack of Lamb) and the Bistecca de Manzo (grilled and aged New York Strip Steak). For desert I often indulge with an assortment of Gelato flavors, the Tiramisu della Casa which they pride themselves on having the ""Best in New York,"" Formaggio (artisan Cheeses) and their Torta de Cioccolato (warm flour-less Chocolate Cake).\r \r Pappardella is among the best near Lincoln Center and Central Park. This homey restaurant offers rustic Italian cooking and superb service. I always ask about their fantastic specials of the day. Wine paring is listed on the daily specials menu for you to consider. Gluten free pasta is also available.\r \r Pappardella has a spectacular ""Picnic Basket"" for two which contains all that you could ask for: Appetizers, Entres, Deserts, Beverages and a Table Cloth all for a great price. And it's healthy too! I take this to Central Park for the concerts and just for fun with a bottle or two of their fine Wine. This ""Picnic Basket"" food is so good that I sometimes have it delivered to my home for lunch. They have free delivery. \r \r I call Pappardella when planning a special event. The Management / Matre d' gives you individual attention and help for catering to your needs for a successful party what ever the size.\r \r Pappardella offers unique Italian dishes and delights their customers with friendly and efficient service from a dedicated, passionate team. Just have to tell you that they always take the time to go that extra mile for you.\r \r Dr. Robert D. Madison\r \r more

Best Italian food anywhere 9/3/2008

love this restaurant. Everything I've ordered there has been absolutely delicious, especially the Veal Conca D'Oro entree. I also recommend the lobster meat ravioli. My wife and I went to Pappardella for dinner last night, attentive service, and with the check they brought up a complimentary of tiramisu, my favorite dessert. They have a nice, reasonably priced wine list as well--in fact, everything on the menu is reasonably priced. One of the best values I've encountered in NYC. more

Crappardella 8/18/2008

I came here with my girlfriend last week for the first time. It was raining hard enough that night to discourage the crowds that usually wait to get inside. \r \r I really don't understand why anyone would ever wait to go inside this place. The food was absolutely awful! The salad was decent -- but, really, how wrong can you go with salad? I ordered the veal scallopini and my girlfriend ordered the shell-shaped pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage. \r \r The veal was definitely not fresh. For all I know, it might've older than my grandfather. It was thin, flimsy and dry and made moist only by the sauce. And my girlfriend's pasta dish tasted and looked like it was made by a five-year old cooking with her mother. The pasta, again, did not taste fresh. It tasted as though it'd been frozen, thawed, and dumped in boiling water. The pasta actually had a soggy texture to it.\r \r And to top off that miserable meal, another patron stole my $40 umbrella that had been placed in the restaurant's umbrella bin, leaving behind a cheap $2 Canal Street umbrella that I reluctantly took away to keep dry that evening. When I told the hostess that my umbrella had been stolen, she stated dumbly, ""Well, just take that umbrella, and you're even."" \r \r Bottom-line: Not only is Pappardella's food awful, their staff is also stupid. Cons: Bad food, below-average-intelligence staff, loud music more

Fresh Pasta is to die for 8/7/2008

MMMMmmm Pappardella !! The pastas here are so good. I had the gnocchi with pesto which is my favorite dish so I'm picky about it. The gnocchi was done just right and the sauce was so good that I had to ask for extra bread. MY cousins had pasta but my aunt had the fish. The pasta was amazing in a pink sauce with peas. Again the sauce was so good that I ended up wiping her plate up too My aunts fish was looked good and she liked it. The pasta is the reason I will be coming back though, Pros: Fresh pasta, Huge selection Cons: Bathrooms downstairs not good for elderly more

Worst Italian Restaurant in the Neighborhood and Possibly Beyond! 5/1/2008

My wife and I spent 10 days in New York, living a block from Pappardella, which we just came back from on our last night in NY.\r \r I was embarrassed to send back the house wine, but my wife helped me do so. I'm not a wine buff - I drink two-buck-Chuck from Trader Joe most days at home quite happily. This was undrinkable! Price: $10.\r \r I didn't say anything when the bread was quite stale. The salad was good, so my hopes went up. The waiter was very nice and asked the cook my finicky questions about the fish: Fresh or frozen? Wild or farmed? I was assured the halibut was fresh. It was frozen. My wife and I eat out every lunch and dinner when traveling, and like to try new places, and each other's dishes. When she tried it, she said ""This isn't fresh!"" The table of 3 women next to us was having a loud conversation with our waiter in Italian, which sounded like a complaint about a pasta dish. Later they talked to us in English and said their meal was awful. Their bread was stale, too. The pasta dish was 'not Italian"" and used cheap canned tomato paste with an 'acidic' flavor.\r \r I called over the manager. He told me he had no problem in comping us the meal. He turned away and then came back, picking an argument with the three women. Apropos of nothing, he said ""Sure, I comp you. You come back for a 'comp meal'. "" I said, ""I thought you just said you had ""no problem"" comping us the meal?"" He suddenly turned nasty: ""This is b****t! How'm I gonna pay for things?"" Eventually he reduced the cost of my half-eaten plate by 25%. He was smirking at us when he wished us 'good night!'. Final cost of frozen fish served only with mashed potatoes (not an Italian trademark!) = $21. \r \r I paid with my credit card, but I tipped the waiter in cash because I didn't trust the management. The waiter palmed the cash gratefully and apologized.\r \r We ate at Arte's for a lunch and a dinner. 2 blocks away - also Italian. Same price. Excellent. Pros: Perhaps if you want only a salad! Cons: Terrible food. The management presents a vulgar, lowlife profile. Not professional! more

average Italian fare for fair prices 1/17/2008

I was unimpressed with this restaurant's food. I found many low quality ingredients used in their food: Cheap olive oil, mealy tomatoes, tasteless rubbery mozzerella, and old lamb / frozen thawed lamb - cold in the middle when served. Not much was very fresh except for the greens. Vegetables were drowning in butter. The bread was stale too. Pros: waiters Cons: food, maitre d, order consistency, stale bread more

eating clouds 5/30/2007

Yesterday I went to Papardalle on Columbus Avenue. Since I returned from my trip to Italy a few months ago I have been in search of some great Italian food and I think I found it. The gnocchi was to die for. It?s that special feeling you get when something you eat is so good it?s as if you were eating clouds. Gnocchi not being the souffles of the pasta genus can sometimes be extremely heavy but this meal had a specific bounce to it and it felt lighter than most concrete like meals I?ve digested. The desert was, though not like in Italy, was quite tasty and the coffee was good. Overall I give it an 8 out of 10 more

The best Italian EVER! 9/27/2006

My mom and I went to New York for 4 days, and the first night we came across Pappardella. The food was AMAZING (i got the pizza, my mom got the gnocci)...it was so amazing that we went again before we left~ thats 2 times within 4 days! They had great service, our server was friendly, and the manager was friendly. I will be sure that every time i go back to NYC i am sure to go to Pappardella. The food is comprable to that of food in Italy...which i have NEVER come across before. I recommend that if you are on the upper west side, you should dine here! Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: none!! more

Best reasonable UWS traditional Italian 6/11/2005

New outdoor seating is great for a nice Summer night outdoor meal. Inside ambience is very as you'd expect Italian, but very nice with good lighting and nice large tables and you don't feel crammed like most NYC restaurants. Staff is ultranice and friendly always coming by to check on us, wines by the glass are large enough to last a full meal, value was good and pasta was just perfect, not revolutionary just nice solid downhome good traditional pasta. One thing was are food was served so darn hot we had to wait like 5mis to touch it, not too bad a problem to have. Highly recommend as a great UWS close to home place for a nice solid Italian meal. Pros: Ambience, Staff, Traditional Pasta more

Best pasta in Manhattan 6/10/2005

After months of looking for a good Italian place and we finally found it! And believe me we had search. This place on the upper west side has the best pasta I had ever tasted. I had the first pasta listed on the menu and it left me craving the taste again for days after. I can't wait to go back and try everything on their menu. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

Comfortable neighborhood place 10/7/2004

I happened upon this restaurant one cold, rainy night when it just looked too warm and inviting to pass up. The service here is always friendly. The food is always outstanding and the food is most definately worth the reasonable prices. Although the atmosphere is not trendy - the comfortable atmosphere makes it a great place for a date or meal with a friend. Pros: Great Value, Cozy atmosphere more

Delicious and Lovely 4/20/2004

It's amazing how many italian restaurants in the city can screw up Italian food, and this is all the more a reason to keep coming back to Pappardella - the food is always outstanding, the service attentive, and while the restaurant is open, it still feel cozy and intimate. I particularly love the bolognese sauce on the pasta which is always done al dente. And the tartuffo there is the best I've had in ages! My one wish would be for a more inventive wine list. Given so many different kinds of wine all over Italy, some whimsical selections would be fun to explore. But overall Pappardella is fantastic and worth returning to! Pros: delicious food, courteous service more

Perfecto! 9/19/2003

The service here is extraordinary! I have no idea of what that one user was talking about when they said that 'it lacked' or something, because all of the busboys, waiters, waitresses, bartenders, and even the restaurant manager came over to accomodate us in any way possible. Between their concern for our satisfaction, the way they allowed us to switch tables, and get the food to us immediately was terrific. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant to everyone! Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: Wine, Price more
