Panyc Salon

It can be tough to find a good haircut at a reasonable price in NYC. As much as I'd like to..I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on haircuts. When I go to Panyc, I don't feel like I'm settling for what I can afford, like at some other businesses. \r The haircuts are professional, the salon atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and they use high quality products. I highly recommend JC but I know the other folks are excellent too. Pros: Great friendly atmosphere, they remember you! No product pressure! more

I love the cozy, friendly intimacy of PANYC salon, and it's proximity to my home, but return every few months because of the talent and easygoing nature of my stylist, Chris. He was just recently promoted from junior stylist, but I don't mind paying a few extra bucks (still VERY reasonable for NYC). The styling products always smell so yummy, and everyone always loves my haircut. Chris is a Wiz with layers, and my cuts always grow in very well. I always look forward to my next appointment - feels like coming home! Pros: A friendly, talented staff; weekend and evening hours Cons: Could be a little more sanitary...hair in the brushes freaks me out a bit more

Panyc is an intimate salon with great energy, and an easy going atmosphere. While there is a senior team of stylists, I went to a junior stylist and regretted it. My stylist was really kind and gentle but in the end, failed to listen to my initial request and gave me some seriously short and undesirable results. I'd really like to believe that with more experience he would be a great! However, for close to $60 I don't want to be part of his learning curve. If you choose Panyc, consider a senior stylist. Paulie is a great hairdresser. Gives a great cut and I have been very happy with the way it grows out. \r \r Not sure what the rave is over MaryLou. One reason I went to PANYC was because of the good reviews for the way she does color and highlights. From my take, I was very unhappy with the highlights she gave me. Way too blonde - and fake looking. Looked really processed. And she had the opportunity to give me what I already had and liked. I told her I wanted them the way my hairdresser before did them (who moved out of the area). So in a sense she had a stencil to work with. After I had the highlights everyone said they had never seen my hair that blond before - that was not the goal - I like things a little more natural looking. And when I went back to maybe give her another chance I watched her do highlights for another girl and that's when I knew this was not a onetime problem. She made her hair very streaky and processed looking. Basically not natural. (I'm starting to think she writes these reviews for herself). \r \r When you go for a haircut and color its not really the salon but the person who performs the service. I would recommend the salon for Paulie. I cannot speak for anyone else besides MaryLou on coloring and highlights. MARYLOU IS GENIOUS WITH COLOR!!! I went with her with a large mess of bad color over color and she took every step necessary to get it right. Over the years I've been to every type of salon... really expensive-stylist on tv.. ""best of"" recommendations.. personal recs..and I had just resigned myself to the idea that my dark brown hair would never get to that rich color I wanted without going brassy. Marylou got it right.. explaining to me the process by which she would fix the old stuff gone wrong, and keep my color how I wanted it going forward. I could not get over her patience and persistence in getting it PERFECT... i walked out of the salon 4.5 hours later (there was a lot to fix and she took the time to do it!!).. with an amazing multidmensional new hue, every last strand! I""ve never wanted my hair to grow out quickly, but I cant wait to go back. Believe me.. it's been a long time coming, but I've finally found a colorist I would recommend to everyone, and I'll keep coming back here!! I've been coming to PANYC for almost 5 years and I am still constantly, consistently happy. Mary Lou (my colorist) is a genius. Simon (he cuts and styles my hair) is so talented and precise. Both always please. I'm truly obsessed with them and would recommend them to anyone. You will not be disappointed as the PANYC family is quite unique. more

I have been going to Panyc on and off for 2 years +. I have never in my life found a salon, as professional, stylists as knowledgable and dedicated as this salon. I have been to many salons, where the stylists dont examine your hair, just put any relaxer or product without spending any time talking to you. Not here.\r \r They are patient, talk to you about what you needs are , and actually look at your hair and make suggestions. I have been going to salons since I was 13 and have had many disatrous experiences. Since coming here, I feel I could finally trust someone with my hair. I have lived in NYC for 15 years and bounced around forever looking for the perfect salon- one with a talented, friendly, knowledgable and professional mix of stylists and colorists who treat you like they really care about cutting and coloring your hair the way you want it- a fun, laid-back atmosphere, a place where I could feel confident that should I want anything from a basic trim and color touch up to a trendy, dramatic ""new-do"" I would be be in good hands. This is THE ONE. My appointments always start on-time- in fact, the salon is managed quite well overall- always clean, well stocked with products for sale (although I never feel pressured to buy anything- but usually do anyway becuase they carry some of the industry's top product lines) veryorganized in general. It really is a treat and a pleasure to go there and I very much look forward to my appointments with Mary Lou (color) and Paul (stylist). Such a nice place to be, everyone is friendly, no attitude, no drama. I have recommed several freinds and co-workers (many are now regular clients!) My hair always looks and feels great! I went in this pass weekend, and had my hair highlighted by Pauline. My hair was in such bad shape, but she made it look so good. She was very sweet, and had me laughing the whole time. This is so important to me. The last place I went to was so different. The stylist never talked to you about anything. Just asked you how you wanted your hair, and that was it. This place is so alive. Everyone that left there looked so damn good. I will be back, and I will tell all my friends so I can get a free service. Pros: great place more

For about the last 10 years I have wanted this one kind of haircut. I would bring in pictures to every new salon I went to, with detailed description and expressive words, but it never worked. I never achieved the haircut of my dreams. I thought that maybe I was using the wrong words to describe, or that my pictures weren't clear enough because no one ever got it. When I walked into Panyc and sat down at Chris's station, he asked me what I wanted to do with my hair and I said, ""No, what do you want to do with my hair?"" He looked a bit surprised and said, ""Really?"" I told him to do what he thought would compliment my face and to cut off as little or as much as he wanted. I had given up trying to describe what I wanted in a haircut and gave it up to Chris to do his thing. And he did. Boy, did he. Without instruction, without a whisper of what I wanted or thought of what might look good, he cut my hair into that perfect cut that I always wanted, that I had always described that no one could ever achieve. Chris did it in a flash, with accuracy and precision. He paid attention to how my hair fell and how it grew and what it wanted to do. He was amazing. And in a way, he ruined me, because I live in California, so very far away from him and now no one will compare! \r So do yourself a favor and put your hair into the hands of this master. I got my haircut at Panyc for the first time, and loved it!!!!!! I get so scared when I go to get a haircut. Someone told me about the salon, so I gave it a try. Can someone please pass the word around about this place. It was so chill, and they have a salon dog named Peanut. She is so cute. She just sits in your lap, and falls right to sleep. I'm so glad that I found a place where the stylist listen to what you want, and the end result is GREAT!!! If your not a cool, friendly , fun person, then go to a salon off of Madison somewhere. I needed my hair colored really bad. I've been living here for 5 years, and never found anyone I liked. I asked around the office for a salon. Many of the girls go to Panyc. So I tried it. I went in and saw Pauline. I was kind of rude at first, I was really neavous. Pauline calmed me down. She knew what she was talking about. I had the best shampoo by Jillian. Pauline then blew me out. Let me tell you that THIS IS THE BEST HIGHLIGHTS I HAVE EVER GOTTEN!!! I'm so happy. Next week I'm coming in to get a hair cut with Paul. I can't wait. Everyone should go to Panyc. I went there today for the first time and I absolutley love the place! Everyone is so friendly and its just a cool hip place. I had my hair done by Simon. He is amazing!! My hair is on the thin side and other salons I went to cut in layers to give me fullness but it still looked thin. But the way Simon cut and blew my hair out, it looked full and amazing. The prices are also a rare find in NYC. I didnt know about prices before I got my hair cut and I expected to pay anywhere from $125 and up. I purchased a leave in conditioner that he used on my hair because I loved the way my hair felt and smelled. By the way no pressure at all to buy any products!! I was delighted when the total price with the haircut and the leave in conditioner was $75.00. \r \r Truly an amazing place!! I highly recommend Simon!! Pros: Cool, Friendly Staff. Last Wednesday, I went to Panyc Salon for the first time. I'm 55 years old with long curly hair and really wanted it layered and easy to take care of. With 3 children, I have little time on my hands. \r \r Chris was the artist who worked on my hair. He was incredible. For the $55.00 I was charged, it was worth every penny. He spent from 12:15 until 2pm, working on my hair. I felt like he really cared about me as a client.\r \r My husband and children fussed over me. I felt so special. THANK YOU, CHRIS, and folks at Panyc. I will be back for my anniversary in December to get it layered again. I look like a goddess.\r \r I got a cut from Chris and full head highlights with three colors from Pauline. My hair is silky and has great body and my highlights look so natural and shiny. It's like they gave me a whole new head of hair.\r \r The salon is very comfortable and not stuffy or hauty like other salons. Everyone is friendly and the prices are great. I have only entrusted my tresses to 3 salons (on 3 occasions) in my lifetime. I've never wanted to go back to a salon after going to one, until now. Panyc offers a great and friendly atmosphere, they honor their appointments (I wasn't waiting for 4 hours as I did at the last place I went to) and my teacher wallet didn't feel any pain. \r \r I entrusted my (black) hair to Paul and I love the cut. My curls behave and I feel like I have a style now, which is what I asked for. Paul walked me through each cut he made and explained to me how he was going to make my hair great. I look forward to working with him to get my hair long enough to sit on, which has been my life-long hair dream! I had my hair styled by Paul but every face in every chair was smiling. After years of trying to convince my mother to let me have bangs, JC was able to convince my mother in seconds. JC cut and styled my hair in a way that would not take too long in the mornings which makes my mom happy. I feel so confident and pretty with my new haircut. Thanks JC.
