Stay Away!!! 7/17/2009

Sloppy personnel, arogant staff, they act like you need them. Almost like you have to beg for food. I went with my girlfriend for dinner but changed our minds after the lousy service. We had 2 beers & went to a real restaurant. This place is a front for a hangout very inappropiate for eating, I dont know why the Health Dept. lets them stay in bussiness. Cons: they ignore their customers more

My absolute favorite resturant..... 3/19/2009

You gotta love atmosphere to love this spot. The food isn't wonderful, but it's cool for the crowd they have. My signature dish is Shrimp Scampi w/ rice and for dessert....well I'mma wing it this time..*wink. I have celebrated some of the best moments in my life with the ""fish"" and look forward to spending this years b'day with them again.. See ya'll 3/30...... Pros: great drinks, reasonable prices Cons: staff is a bit slow.... more

Terrible...Worst in Manhattan! 11/22/2008

This may be the worst restaurant I've ever been to!\r Not only was the food the most disgusting I've ever eaten in a New York City restaurant, the service was the 2nd worst I've ever experienced (Curvao was the 1st, & they closed down).\r Not a single server took our order for over 15 minutes, & the place was practically empty.\r The New England Clam Chowder was edible, at best.\r Have you ever known anyone who didn't finish their Shrimp Cocktail?...Neither have I.\r I still feel ill from all of the food we barely ate, and two of us ordered for three people.\r I could go on for another two paragraphs about how bad the food and service was.\r Sure, the menu appears to be great, but don't let that fool you!\r Do yourself a favor & don't eat there! Pros: De La Vega artwork is great Cons: Food & service is terrible more

Slow Fish 9/28/2008

The food & service is terrible ... the ambiance of the restaurant however is great. The food is usually bland or over cooked and the service is dismal. As long as they take to bring you your food you would assume that the food would be great. Not a nice place if you starving and expect prompt service. Pros: Great Location Cons: Slow Service and Lack of seasoning on there food more

A strange fish... 6/15/2008

A very casual restaurant in all respects of service and decor. After guided to our table no menus were presented so my friend and I looked at the placemats and saw many listings but no info on the so-called Sunday Brunch (which was advertised in a local newspaper). No wait staff materialized for 10 minutes so I asked a a busboy about the Brunch offerings: he looked confused, pointed vaguely to a chalk board and then disappeared. There only 3 options on the Brunch menu and none of them involved egg related dishes. My friend and I opted for lobster rolls which were bland but edible. An adequate spot and not much more. Looks like a good cross-section of the neighborhood both North & South of 96th Street eats here. Overall, looks and feels like a mediocre City Island restaurant on upper-upper Madison Avenue. Pros: Casual, service won't rush you out the door. Cons: Too casual service and limited Brunch options. more

Reasonable, not exceptional seafood 5/11/2008

Good service. Found the standard bread too buttery. Calamari was too greasy and more chewy than crunchy. Steamed fish arrived with very little preparation and an excessive amount of a highly liquid sauce. Salad was not cut up nor fresh. Lobster bisque had a sufficient amount of shrimp (maybe it should have been shrimp bisque.) Pros: Service was good Cons: Below average but passable more

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT 2/8/2008

Service is always great. I travel from Brooklyn all the way uptown to go here. I love it, the bar is great and great prices. Seafood is great! no negative thoughts come to mind when I think of this place.\r J-bartender and Allan waiter are WONDERFUL! Pros: You can just eat, just drink, hang out and listen to music or do all! more

Great Cheap place 11/16/2007

The place is a really a great place. The Staff is extra friendly and the seafood is just great. The portions are more than enough and the food always has flavor and seasoning. I am picky when it comes to seafood places some places you can taste the fishyness in the seafood but this place is really great and the price i dont think you cant beat. I remember one time i ordered a wine and i did not like it so the waiter took it back without a problem. The second one he brought I thought it was too bitter for my taste but i left it because i felt bad, he saw i was not drinking it and brought some soda and did not charge us! Writing this review, think i might go soon..I really cant express how clean, and wonderful the food is. Pros: Clean, Great and Cheap Seafood more

The food was sub-par and the service was worse 11/10/2007

We stopped in one afternoon because my wife's been eyeing the place. We were quickly seated at a table whose paper place mats/menus still bore the stains of the previous guests. it took us fifteen minutes to get the waitress over to our table to take our order, but the salad quickly followed as did the meal. My clam chowder was mostly just salty cream with only a few bits of potato and maybe two pieces of clam. My wife's swordfish was unremarkable. Not terrible, but not what I'd expect from a ~$20 dish. The scallion sauce was nothing special (hint soy and scallion) and the broccoli was a bit overcooked.\r \r Finally, we finished and waited another fifteen to twenty minutes for the waitress to notice us as we actively tried to gain her attention. Ultimately, we left some money on the table and, as we walked out, asked if she was working or not. She ran off to look busy, but it didn't help.\r \r I'd definitely stay away and have no intention of returning. Pros: I can't think of any Cons: unremarkable food, poor service more

best price for crab legs in NYC 8/8/2006

I'm not to sure what the other reviewers were expecting from 1 Fish, 2 Fish. If you are expecting great seafood at a great price, then this is your place. Haven't found a place in the city (Brooklyn, Bronx included) that gives you the quanity and quality of seafood (especially crab legs) for such a good price. The food comes out quick, the proportions are good, and the food has always been on point. For some reason, you have to ask a couple times for water and the check. So the wait staff is not the greatest, but this is not Asia De Cuba fine dining folks. And this is not a burger joint (hence the name), so don't get a burger and complain about it. This is just good seafood. Pros: great seafood, great price, drinks are pretty good Cons: service can be slow, and the bar can get jumping, which could be a pro or a con depending on what you want. more

my brunch experience 1/24/2006

I went to brunch with a large group after running a road race in Central Park. The service was flighty and it took two hours for me to get my food AND when I finally got the meal it was all wrong. Instead of fulfilling our individual orders, the kitchen made 5 of one thing. The restaurants blase attitude and low quality food made me cross this spot off of my UES list of eateries. Terrible. more
