With the exception of one older bartender there, I would not return to this bar because of the snooty "younger" (though they aren't that young) bartenders. Lazy and inattentive an...

Gone downhill fast 1/30/2009

I used to love this place (except for being a very smoky restaurant, but smoking ban changed that) - best calamari in Pgh. It's been under new management or chef and hasn't been the same since. The menu changed. They ran out of ahi tuna at 6:30 pm. $13 for a sandwich without even chips (overpriced for the quality) and $11.50 for a martini (not even that great) is too much. Service was mediocre. We've given it two tries recently, but won't be back. There are better places nearby. Pros: Nice decor and atmosphere, especially without the smoke Cons: Emphasis on bar, not food more

Place is Great 12/17/2008

Our firm had a couple of parties here this year and this place is wonderful. From the initial set up to the conclusion of the event, the staff was top notch, he really took good care of us. We all agreed that this was the best place so far in Pittsburgh. The martinis are the best in town and the food is really good too. With the new DJs on the weekends, it's our regular friday night stop upstairs with the younger crowd. Pros: great strong drinks and good food specially for bar Cons: wasn't open this past 2 sunday? more

Best Mixed Drinks In 412 11/5/2008

This is the only bar I go to downtown. Relaxed atmosphere, great mixed drinks, couches, hot crowd. The upstairs is amazing - exposed brick mixed with a bartender named Ian who makes outstanding martinis. Pros: Great Lounge Spot more

best kept secret in pittsburgh 7/14/2008

me and my friends used to go out all the time. and we were getting sick of the same old bars and some of the other neighborhoods so we wnet out downtown. We LOVE this place. They have the coolest upstairs lounge in the city and the hottest bartenders and cocKtail waitresses. (lol) We went to a wrap party there it was the bomb. Pros: greatest atmosphere and most cool crowd Cons: no after hours more

It's a chill relaxing atmosphere where you dont' get macked on too bad. But always fun too with DJs on some nights. Now we always either start out here or end the night here regardless on the weekends. Highly recommend the Pom martinis and mojitos. Pros: greatest atmosphere and most cool crowd Cons: no after hours more

best drinks around, awesome bartenders 7/2/2008

I just moved to pittsburgh recently and stumbled upon this wonderful spot in the downtown area. Everytime we go there, it is always happening but not too crazy. They have a nice sophisticated mixed crowd and it's a great place to chill on the weekends...relaxed comfortable atmosphere, great music. Drinks are in the mid to high range but well worth the price with the stiff pours and quality liquor. Highly recommend for a good party ! Pros: fantastic food, superior drinks, friendly effecient service Cons: lunchtime parking, no kids menu more

Awesome daytime bartender, terrible management 5/28/2008

I have been going there for several years now, and the bar has gone downhill in a number of ways. The staff changes overnight so to achieve ""Regular"" status is impossible. The daytime bartender, Sam, is really personable and makes everyone laugh. If he is super busy, he is the only one bartender and can come off as curt, if not downright uninterested, but one bartender and 50 ppl i can see where it comes from. He is alot of fun usually knows what someone drinks after the first round, and he keeps them coming. Also, trying to contact anyone in order to book a party is impossible. I called three times in one week and the manager was in a meeting the entire time apparently. Waste of time. Prices change weekly. Drinks a year ago are almost a third more expensive now. Capitalizing on he drink tax much? I love the space, if you can get there during the day Sam is great, as well as Donna at night, but other than that don't waste your time. Pros: creative martinis, good looking people lounge there Cons: management consideration, customer service more

Incredibly, unbelievably overrated 4/10/2008

Just got charged more than $13 for one glass of beer and one Scotch and soda using a bar brand. Can't imagine what anyone sees in this place. Many other bars in town have nicer furniture, music, lighting, etc. Location is not worth the price. The staff was bitchy bitches. When I asked if the bill was correct, I was told, "gas now costs more than $3 per gallon." That might be an appropriate comment if I drank gasoline and not alcohol. I will never, ever go back and I hope the place goes out of business soon. I would say that the only reason it is still there is its location. Pros: None I can think of Cons: Extremely high prices, bitchy staff, unimpressive liquor selection, cramped space, etc. more

nice aesthetics, TERRIBLE bartenders 3/27/2008

iv been goin to the upstairs lounge at olive or twist since last july.Until recently i enjoyed the service.I was a loyal customer because the bartenders upstairs were personable & made the best dirty martinis for my friends and i.I have always recommended OT & held a party for a friend there in which we got amazing service from the 2 girls who usually waited on us and happily overtipped them. The BAD part:latley when i have been going there isnt a familiar face in sight, there are all new employees behind the bar, normally not a prob, except none of these new faces are friendly & they dont know what the hell they're doing!!! as a former bartender myself i can relate to being a bit flustered but this was outta control!Every bartender behind that bar, with the exception of one guy, looked like a chicken with their head cut off.One girl couldnt take more than 2 drinks in an order w/o looking like her head was gunna explode and another smiled nervously & tried to avoid customers(try hiring based on experience not looks alone)...do you want to make money???finally when i got to order my 2 ketel one dirty martinis & 2 blue moons the girl who got them completely screwed up! I was given 2 martinis NOT shaken and i watched her pour the olive brine on top of them! does the management here just hire any idiot?i then waited about 10mins to have her fix them and when she did they werent even worth the new skyrocketed prices i had to pay, also i was given 2 miller lt drafts for my blue moons TWICE until i watched the girl pour the beer from the blue moon tap and i had to tell her the lines were crossed when she insisted they had to be blue moon.We only stayed cause the cocktailwaitress, the only personable one there, pleasantly offered to take care of us.I have met the manager and he is just a schmoozer, no wonder this place has gone downhill. hire competent bartenders if you want to keep this place open & try to filter some straight men in there as well. ~a very disgruntled customer Pros: great aesthetics, art on walls Cons: the bartenders have NO clue what they are doing or about customer service more

Great drinks & food when you can get served. 7/17/2007

This is a great place in a great location on 6th Street for pre/post game or Theater or Symphony. The food is excellent. Crab cake sandwich and ahi tuna appetizer are winners and lots of interesting choices on a surprisingly upscale menu. Obvious pros in the kitchen. But on a busy night, if you are not at the bar be prepared to wait a long time for service. The staff is friendly enough, just appears to be no organization in how they handle the table service. If they can solve that problem this place has a menu and location that can't be beat and I'd gladly give it 5 stars. Pros: Food, Drinks, Location Cons: Inefficient (but friendly) service. more
