Awful.. 5/5/2011

I usually never complain about any Asian type of food as long as it taste fine, its decent and as long as I can eat it.. BUT I must say, first time I ever tried this place, I ordered the egg rolls and their fried rice and it tasted AWFUL. I couldn't even chew on those eggrolls because it tasted funny and felt funny in my mouth! I couldn't stand it.. service was okay... but they are a bit slow too =/ more

Very Nice Atmosphere and Great Dim Sum 11/15/2008

I took my husband for our anniversary today to this restaurant. We had a wonderful time. The Dim Sum was very tasty especially the egg plant. The atmosphere was very nice. This is a place to take your time to go and eat and have good conversation. We will go back!!! more

Nice fish tanks 8/26/2008

By far the worst meal I have ever eaten (and I've been to England).\r Being new to Houston I wanted to try some authentic asian food. I could Ignore the bad service but not the foul tasting food. Seriously, if you can?t get a good Chinese meal in Asia town?. I should have known better when I went into the restaurant and there were no Asian people eating there.\r I went back to work on Monday and told my asian co-workers where I went for lunch on the weekend and they laughed at me.\r The fish tanks were pretty though.\r Enjoy\r Pros: Fish tanks Cons: everything else more

Beware of the shark fin soup 2/6/2008

We love this restaurant for dim sum on Sundays. However, please do not support the purchase of shark fin soup. The manager has noted that this restaurant only serves real shark fin soup - no imitations. Sharks are being decimated throughout the oceans to meet the demands of Asian restaurants serving shark fin soup. This ""delicacy"" is creating endangered species. Stick to the wonton or egg drop. Pros: Decor and Dim Sum Cons: Shark fin soup!! more

A typical Asian experience in North America 1/30/2008

You must understand the idiosyncricies of an Asian establishment outside Asia. If you are Caucasian and cannot handle being in a foreign setting, you will be put off by the ""poor"" service. If you have never been to an establishment in one of the larger Chinatowns in North America you will not understand the personality of an Asian outside their homeland. For me, this was a bit of a comfort food place even though it is large and a bit institutional feeling. No, the food is not quite what you would get in China. But, it is not what you get on a typical Chinese buffet aimed at people looking for quantity instead of quality. It was decent and you can certainly choose the things you want after being able to see what it looks like. Overall this is a decent experience. Pros: comfort food Cons: too large and institutional feeling more

Not very Authentic 11/7/2007

The only thing I liked was the Phoneix feet. It was made very well, except the taste could use a little more seasoning. Everything else was not good. Had to go to a line to get dim sum for some of the stuff. Some of the stuff was pretty bad and it left a bad taste in our mouths. Service was ok, but when it got busy, very little to no service. Some of the cart people just passes by and not even ask if we wanted anything (particularly one of two ladies). I'm thinking, do they want us to order or what? Will never eat there or take anyone there again. Pros: nice scenary and close to hk mall Cons: bad food, bad service, and expensive more

Too much OIL and MSG 9/26/2007

This place is nasty and it has a lot of oil and msg. I get thirsty so fast, i end up drinking like 5 cups of water within 10 minutes after i ate. I went there with a group of friends and we just wanted to try different restaurants in bellaire. i could not believe we went there. I mean service is not good at all and the food is messy. Also, I have to get up and walk to the waiter to ask for more water. Pros: N/A Cons: service, parking, oily food. more

Ocean Palace gives f o o d p o i s o n i n g !!!! 8/29/2007

My boyfriend and I went to Ocean Palace for dim sum on Sunday morning. 4 Hours later, my boyfriend started having symptoms of food p o i s o n i n g and was hospitalized. they said it was food p o i s o n i n g....from what kind of bacteria, we dont know yet. But it was definitely from something he ate at this dump. now we know that we will never come back to this place, and so will our friends. more

Dim Sum restaurant with many varieties 4/12/2007

Great egg tart and the steam rice noodle with fried bread inside. Other Dim Sums are so so. Stir Fried Udon or Rice noodle are also good Pros: Dim Sum, Service Cons: Parking more

Good Choice 1/14/2006

May not be top notch Cantonese food. However, good selection, good food, good experience, and just next to HK market for more food and things Asian. Pros: Good dim sum spread, Next to Asian grocer, Good parking Cons: Crowded/noisy more

best 12/5/2005

Good, but with room for improvement. 9/4/2005

Ocean Palace is great for dim sum, but like most dim sum restaurants, it's best to go early in the morning, specifically before 11:00 am if you want fast, decent service or just a seat. We usually go at around 10:30 when the restaurant is only about 1/6th full. During that time, the waiters and cart-pushers tend to be much more friendly and faster, but it all changes after 11:30 when the restaurant instantly becomes as packed as a sardin can. It's fortunate that the dim sum area on the second floor is extremely large and spacious because there are no separations therefore when it's all packed, it tends to get extremely loud and almost chaotic. Overall though, the food is great and if you go early enough, the atomsphere is quite enjoyable. Pros: Large, Good food, Fast if early Cons: No separation, Loud, Chaotic more

THE best place to dine for fresh seafood. 4/28/2005

Not only the food look so exotic and fresh, I got to say that their seafood are the BEST! You cannot find this anywhere else. I highly recommend this place for anyone that love seafood and dim sum. Pros: Nice atmoshere, Private Rooms, Good Crowd more

The best dim sum 7/26/2004

Ocean Palace for dim sum on Sundays is like a whole different world. Make sure you get there by 11:00'ish or else there will be a wait. I've been on 3 different occasions and the food was always very good, with a good variety. The service sometimes seems rushed (well they are trying to get the waiting people seated) but overall, it's well worth your trip. Pros: Good food, Fairly inexpensive more

Service and value 7/1/2004

I'm highly recommend Ocean Palace is a good place to eat dim sum. Ocean Palace value is so reasonable, and the service is great. I almost go there every week about 2-3 times. I tried a lot of restaurants for dim sum, and there is the best dim sum even. Pros: inexpensive, clean, friendly Cons: , crowded more

Can't believe it's ranked so high 6/19/2004

This place may appeal to the American palate, but ask any Asian person, and they will tell you this is one the the worst Chinese restaurants in town. The only upside is that they have a huge ballroom upstairs that caters to the typical large Asian wedding receptions. Other than that, the food is nasty and the service is just not there. The dim sum is just OK. I would much rather go somewhere else for that. Pros: Large ballroom more

best dim sim in town 1/1/2003

After My Canh closed down, Ocean Palace popped up with My Canh's cooks.. so Ocean Palace took over as Houstons Dim Sum King.. The place can get a bit crowded during lunchtime on weekends - only b/c its the best dim sum in town! It might be hard to know what to order if you don't speak Chinese though. Pros: great dim sum Cons: crowded more

Best dim sum & china seafood in Houston! 12/17/2002

I thought Ocean Palace had the best dim sum in Chinatown. I've tried so many places around SW Houston and I couldn't find any that matched it. Also, their selection of seafood, and even frog and duck clams are WONDERFUL! This is a can't miss restaurant in Houston. Pros: good food, plenty of seating, nice ambience Cons: expensive more

Great Real Chinese food! 11/12/2002

If you want to have good real Chinese food, this is definitely worth trying. Try to order dishes other than those that you can order from those 'Hunan restaurants'. For example, try the Hong Kong style sweet and sour pork with fresh pineapple. Pros: Greate Taste, Inexpensive, Real Chinese Food more
