Worst

We had to wait 1 1/2 hrs. for our table, as opposed to the hour they said, then we were seated in the very back by the kitchen and the lighting was horrible, there were big round...

A pleasant surprise 5/14/2007

At my first visit to New York I was staying at a near by hotel (Park 79) and I asked in the lobby for a place to have dinner. One from the staff asked if I liked seafood, and when I confirmed he recommended this place. My choice from the menu was mahi mahi, a fish I don't know from home in Denmark. Since the fish was new to me I asked the waiter what he could recommend as side dishes. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I was NOT disappointed. The beer I had was at excellent temperature and the price level was below what it would be at a similar place in Denmark. At my next visit to New York I'll be there again. more

Solid 5/2/2007

Went there last night with family in town, it's always reliable with excellent food and great service. I've been a few times when it was crowded and servers weren't as good, but we were there early so it wasn't as packed and everyone was very attentive. For a nice dinner out in the neighborhood, you can't go wrong here. Pros: Good menu Cons: Crowded and loud more

Friday night dinner 1/29/2007

Had dinner there this past friday. Started off with the lobster bisque. The lobster comes out sitting in the center of a empty soup bowl, the server then has this metal tin cup which pours the bisque into the bowl. That was nice! But we got no spoons. We told the waitress we needed spoons, to which she said I know... there just comming out of the wash. ARE YOU SERIOUS? your gonna serve me soup and make me wait three minutes for a spoon. I've never once had this happen in a restaurant before. Once I got my spoon, the bisque was quite tasty. Ordered a bottle of Chardonnay (Michel, Chablis, 2004 $53) markup was normal...its just not that good of a chardonnay..too boring. I had the wasabi sesame seed crusted Tuna rare...it was a good dish. The teriyaki flavoring of the noodles it was served with was a tad over powering. My girlfriend had the Pistachio Salmon. It was very nice as well..it has this parmesan broth/foam which gives is it quite a nice flavor. Dessert..should have been comp'd for having to wait 3 minutes for a spoon..but whatever. We shared there carrot cake, which was delicious as well. It comes topped with ginger icecream and they drizzle some caramel at the table. Our total came to $153.00 , no 20% tip tonight sorry...15% only for making me wait for my soup spoon) Pros: Elegant Entree's and Great lobster bisque Cons: Slow service more

Great location, Fresh seafood 1/8/2007

This is great spot to be in especially in nice weather where you can sit outside. Food is very good especially the shell fish. I recently had the Tuna/Salmon tartar appetizer and is was very nice, however, my crabcake sandwhich was ok at best. Service was good and friendly. Very nice bar inside. I would def recommend it. Pros: Location, ambience more

OK BUT NOT GREAT 12/30/2006

My family and I were in the mood for a hearty, satisfying meal and found this place by accident. We entered without a reservation and were seated right away. My daughter and I were so excited to see lobster bisque on the menu however when it arrived it looked and tasted more like tomato soup so our enthusiasm sooned wained. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his mahi-mahi and my cobb salad was ok (bacon was not thoroughly cooked). Restaurant was very busy and although our waitress was friendly we did not see her much. Oh, and someone mentioned about receiving muffins to go? We were not offered any. Overall I think we just picked a bad day so we may try it again but probably not anytime soon. more

If This Place Were Downtown, You Would Never Get In 12/26/2006

I've been to this place twice now, and I would go quite a bit more if it were not so far uptown. The food is absolutely amazing-- the beet and goat cheese salad is to die for, and the sea bass I had on my most recent trip was the best ever. But the service is really what puts this place on my top 5 in NYC. From the host to the waiter to the coatcheck, they seem so happy to have you dine at their restaurant. And the final touch-- a complimentary bag of muffins to enjoy the next day-- makes the culinary experience last that much longer. more

Not worth it 10/29/2006

We went here with a party of 5 in the afternoon after the lunch rush on a Saturday. The waiter was new and a bit confused. He had poor knowledge of the menu. When we asked questions he had to run off and ask. It took a while to get the our order in. I ordered the Turkey club sandwich and a bowl of the seafood chowder. I got a bowl of the tomato bisk and the worst sandwich I have had in a long time. The turkey in the club was dry and so old feeling that it reminded me of when you leave your Thanksgiving leftovers in the fridge for too long and they dry out. The tomato was mealy and nasty. The avocado was so unripe it was inedible. Over all it was a sad excuse for food. The french fries that came with it were cut so small(smaller then a cheese greater) and unseasoned that they were like stale bread or card board. They were also cold. Not worth trying to eat. I had intended to return the soup for the correct soup, but since our waiter was not the one who brought it out to the table I was unable to do so then. He didn't show up till after the meal with the check at which point I had eaten it since the rest of my food was so bad and I was hungry. Overall it was a clean restaurant. And the others had a bit of a better time with their food. Although no one was real impressed. I am sorry I wasted my time going here. Pros: It was right next to our desitnation Cons: Bad food, Bad service, poor value. more

Bad service, nice location try Blue Water Grill instead 8/6/2006

We visted Ocean Grill this past Friday for our 6 year anniversary. On past trips to New York we have visted the sister restaurant Blue Water Grill so figured we would try something new this year. Big mistake on our part. The service was horrible, the food was average at best and the atmosphere was just as average. The waiter was very unattentive and suggestive. When asked what he recommended his reply "" everything is good choose something"" same answer when it came to ordering dessert. The pace was also to fast, we were still enjoying our appetizer when the food arrived. Do yourself a favor try Blue Water Grill instead the service, atmposphere, and food are 10 times better. Pros: Location Cons: Service more

Disappointing New Year's Eve dinner 12/31/2005

I went to Ocean Grille for dinner on New Year's Eve. We were made to wait for our table despite a reservation. The meal was really expensive & totally underwhelming. The entre's were tasteless, the desserts had to much alcohol which ruined them & the waitress spilled more of the champagne on the table cloth than in the glass. I definitely won't be going back. more
