La Romance With Superb Cuisine To Boot 1/29/2004

This fantastic edition from the B-R Guest series of NYC restaurants (Blue Water Grill, Park Avalon, etc.) is completely worth the cost, which will definitely set you back plenty. The atmosphere shines with celebrities, twinkles with romantic lighting, and is surrounded with mouth-watering aromas of delicious food. Although this is not the place for those light in the wallet, it is worth the cost of saving up for a special occassion or just an everyday meal. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: , Wine more

Big Disappointment 8/14/2003

We waited an extra long time just so we could get a nice table only to be sat at a very cramped table (at 9:30 on a wednesday...not that crowded). Then our food took about an hour only to have it be the wrong order. The food was BAD- and i have eaten here before and liked it. I sat and ate my dinner while my boyfriend waited for them to correct his order. By the time i was finished, his food showed up. They did try to save the night with free champagne, but i guess they end up doing that a lot. They should have given us a discount instead of the champagne. Pros: good location, knowledgeable waiter, Nice bartenders Cons: bad food, bad service, too expensive more

McFish 7/30/2003

Oddly soulless, this place packs 'em in with its combination of location (nice spread on Columbus) and exquisite safety (serving fishes you must know, using preparations you must know - your mother would be pleased you're eating fish!). Perhaps the worst criticism I can offer is that it lacks New York feel, as do many other places. Very ordinary in many respects. more

Ocean Heaven 7/9/2003

I have been to this restaurant about 3 times and I am absolutely in love with it! If you love seafood and great ambience, then this is a must! The waiters are very attentive to your every need and the music is varied including some upbeat rythms. As an appetizer I definitely recommend the crabcakes they are so scrumptious! This has got to be my new favorite restaurant! The prices are about 25-40 for an entree, not too bad, although a bit pricey when you add in the appetizers/salads, drinks and desserts, but it is well worth it! Pros: Fast Service, Great Atmosphere, Great Selection Cons: Somewhat Expensive more

A Good Catch on the Upper Westside 5/20/2003

Go there for very good fish and seafood. Enjoy the neighborhood atmosphere. Talk to the people at the next table (because they are so close you will hear each other's conversations anyway). Relax, enjoy and be happy. The outside terrace area is special. more

Everything is Great! 3/6/2003

My husband and I love this restaurant and visit at least once a week. The food is awesome... excellent raw bar....the best shrimp dumplings and crab cakes. We prefer the cozy bar area and usually order a full meal and eat it right at the bar or at one of the cozy little tables. The staff is extremely courteous... and now that we're ""regulars"" they go out of their way for us. Beth at the bar is the #1 bartender in the world! more

Bad Food 3/3/2003

We had to wait 1 1/2 hrs. for our table, as opposed to the hour they said, then we were seated in the very back by the kitchen and the lighting was horrible, there were big round windows where you could see into the kitchen, the fake lighting from the kitchen was gleaming onto our table, clashing with the mood lighting in the dining area. The worse part was the food. We ordered two medium steaks, one was perfectly cooked but the other completely brown, no pink to be seen. Both tasted a little dry. We also had lobster, a little rubbery and seemed a bit shy of the 1 1/2 lbs. it promised. Place was okay, the food was definitely not worth the money, however the appetizers were good, we had the jumbo shrimp and oysters. Pros: good atmosphere, good service more

Excellent atmosphere for romance 2/25/2003

The food was really good, especially if you're in the mood for an elegant sea food dinner. My food was excellent but my dates was a little cold. I think his dish was waiting in the window for mine for a while. I would still highly recommend the restaurant, it was an excellent evening. Pros: great wine list, variety of sea foos more

Solid 2/5/2003

No bank account necessary for the moderately priced, fresh, well prepared dishes. The service is consistently poor but the brunch menu can satisfy a variety of tastes, and dinner offers a nice array of seafood at a quality and price uncommon in the neighborhood. more

Seafood with a twist 1/27/2003

Went during restaurant week and was not disappointed. The grilled salmon with vegetable lasagna was cooked to perfection - moist and flavorful. The lightly battered fried shrimp were nicely seasoned and served on a caponata for a nice sour/tart balance. Our server was attentive without stalking and was kind in offering menu suggestions when requested. Definitely a nice place to take a date or a comfortable dinner with a friend without being too stuffy. more

typical UWS 1/27/2003

We went for restaurant week. The service was amazing. They knew their stuff. The wine was good, the food was good but not outstanding. Raw bar was impressive. Portions were adequate but we didnt leave full (on Atkins...no bread). I might go again. more

Swimmingly good fish and atmosphere 1/26/2003

The Ocean Grill is a big, loud, bustling restaurant specializing in aquatic delights. The fish is excellent, unbelievably fresh and prepared with great care as to not overwhelm the natural flavors. However, going to Ocean and not ordering fish is a grave mistake ... my raw well-done burger had to be sent back three times ... until I finally gave up and ordered dessert. more

Very good fish house 1/26/2003

Food was excellent. Our fish was very fresh and flavorful. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was very good, but I wish I would have gotten the raw bar sampler I saw on other tables. Lesson learned for next time (and there definitely will be a next time). Service was excellent. Tables were crowded together. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Cramped Seating, Noise more
