Belgians and Booze 8/25/2011

Another wall of booze in town. but backed up by a hearty list of belgian beers and a mussle menu with something like 7 different ways to get your mussles cooked. Sneak out back and check out the patio you would have never guessed they could hide that big of a patio behind that tiny of a bar. Amazing Service Drinks and food, I will be back soon! more

Hair in the Food 5/2/2010

We arrived (three of us) May 1st around 8:00. We ordered and started our dinners. My salad had a hair in it so I sent it back and did not want anything else. Near the end of our meals my friend found a hair is her Mac and Chez.. It was a horrible experience. Pros: Nice location Cons: Hair in the food more

great hangout 11/17/2009

great bar and mussels. hard to get an order in, but I guess that means business is good! Pros: scotch selection Cons: service more

Best Hamburger Ever! 5/23/2008

I had the best hamburger ever at North 45 the first time I went there two moths ago. Since then I became a regular. I am from Brazil and I raise cattle there, so I can say that I know good meat. And The bacon cheese burger I had at North 45 is by far the best burger I have ever had. It is great meat, freshly mixed and seasoned, on fresh crispy ciabatta bread. I highly recommend it! Also, the steak and 'shrooms is excellent! Not to metion the amazing appetizers such as their fried calamari asian style, and the delicious cheese plate that comes well decorated and with amazing fresh fruits! For those interested in tasting beers, they had amazing Belgium beers, and my favorite Czech beer on tap (Czechvar). Besides, the great food and drinks, North 45 has an amazing atmosphere for singles and couples; and, the service is great! Their servers besides knowledgable, they are beautiful, friendly, and attencious. Pros: Great Beers, food and service. Smoke free! Cons: Can't think of any! more

Czechvar on Tap!! 4/10/2008

Any place that has Czechvar on tap deserves 5 stars in my book- this is a beer from the Czech Republic that until last year you could not find in the United States at all. (It's an easy drinking beer that would be perfect on a patio on a hot summer day.) We also had some food. I had an order of the lemon parsley mussels, and my husband had the half roasted chicken. My mussels were delicious- they were a generous portion, served with a large portion of belgian pomme frittes (fries). The fries were cooked perfectly, and tasted delicious with the mussels. My husbands chicken was served with mashed potatoes and vegetabls. The white meat was cooked perfectly, and the dark meat was slightly overcooked, although still tasty. After dinner, we split a small bottle of the Maredsous, a Belgian Tripel. It was fairly good (although the Chimay Grande Reserve is our favorite Belgian). Overall, the look of the bar was nice, and the food was delicious. The service was decent- there was only one bartender/server that seemed a bit overworked. Try it out- I don't think you'll be disappointed. The alcohol prices are slightly high, but the low food prices make up for it. Pros: Czechvar on tap, beer list, food Cons: Street parking, high beer prices more

ancient customers 1/19/2008

Well the ancient customers are reliving their college youth, so sad. The patio is a joke, stay in the bar much nicer atmosphere, unless the ancients are getting too loud. The famous oysters sent me to the ER, stick with soup and a beer if you have the bucks. Pros: bar is cute Cons: food , price to high more

I keep coming back! 9/26/2007

This place is the best is NW. The patio is great. The food and drinks are delicious. Try the Moscow Mule and Pancetta Mussels. You can't go wrong at N45. Pros: Location, Decor, Food, Pation more

Good food.... no Great Food, great neighborhood pub! 9/25/2007

What a great place to grab a reliably great plate of food. I've been here a few times and have never had a bad meal. The environment is comfortable and classy without trying too hard. The people are cool and welcoming. A can't miss in my book more

Happy Hour - 9/25/2007

I really enjoy the after-work scene at North 45 - warm and friendly atmosphere - good music, food and drinks. I felt really relaxed there and had a great time with my friends. This pub is a great alternative to the standard smokey bar on 21st & good addition to the neighborhood. I'll go back - Oh and it was entertaining as well - apparently you have to place your shoes in a basket (that pulleys over the bar) as collateral for a certain drink they offer... more

Good drinks, busy on the weekend nights 8/10/2007

Been here a few times, it can get really crowded on a Fri/Sat night, especially later on. Drinks are great, service is as well. Food looks and smells good although I have yet to try it. Definately recommend. more

dorky 8/4/2007

What is this a bar with picnic tables???? The food is mediocre, the staff is trying hard to be sophisticated, but it is like going into a frat hse in the 1990's. The staff acts as if this joint is elite but it is just a bar with picnic tables. Need to mention the drinks are excellent. The atmosphere is dorky. Pros: drinks, you can drink very very late into the wee hours. Cons: food and atmosphere more

Finally!!!! 7/28/2007

Finally a place that's completely non smoking...... Brilliant. Great food. Great people..Leslie the bartender is fantastic. One of the owners Josh, is a little overfriendly, but it's all part of the experience. Just nod and smile and he moves on quick enough...I just moved here from Quebec, so it is nice to walk into a bar and see footbal and rugby playing. This place rocks.. Oh check out their brunch on the weekend. The two egg breakfast is a fantastic deal at $5. Se Magnifique Pros: Evverything Cons: A little pricey on the drinks more

Great for the neighborhood, good times! 7/19/2007

North 45 is so much fun! It is a great addition to the neighborhood. I love that it is non-smoking. Reminds me of some of the bars up in Vancouver from school. I had a bunch of girlfriends in town and we stopped in for dinner before going out for the night. It wasn't crowded at first but it fills up quick! So be sure to go to the bathroom early :) cuz there's only 1 bathroom. I'm not much of a beer fan so I can't comment there- but the cocktails were great. We didn't try the patio but we looked and it looked nice. Somebody on here said it was boring and I definitley wasn't bored but then I had lotsa friends with me. Even still, tho, we met lots of people and it was a good time. We may have even stayed past dinner but we were meeting folks later. I'll be back! Pros: good food and fun people Cons: gets crowded if you get there late more

Boring. 6/5/2007

The staff are very friendly, sometimes TOO friendly and you want to say , leave me alone. Food and decor are boring. The whole neighborhood thing is just not happening. Not enough bathrooms, there was like a long line for one bathroom. I will not go back. Pros: music Cons: parking, bathrooms, more

when it's good it's really good, when it's bad it's really bad 5/19/2007

i've been here several times since i live in the neighborhood and each time it's a totally different experience. the food is usually very good, especially for a pub. they've got big, juicy burgers, a huge selection of mussels, tasty crab cakes and the best fries in portland. it's just not consistent. one time the burger will be burned to a crisp when i ask for medium, the next it will be raw in the middle. sometimes the whole meal arrives within 10 minutes and other times it will take 20 minutes for a simple side of bread. i wish they had some healthier options on the menu, too many of the items are deep fried. the vibe is also very varied, and seems to have no rhyme or reason. on a monday night top 40 music is blaring and the place is a meat market packed with frat boys and sorority girls while on a thursday there is a totally different, laid-back, chill atmosphere with great world music and an older crowd. the service is another area that needs some consistancy. one bartender is too busy on his cell phone to give me any service while there is a lovely blonde who is always fast, friendly and knowledgable. same goes for the servers. i've had both ends of the spectrum. while my adorable, petite server last tuesday was extremely on top of things and very gracious even though she was alone and had a full restaurant, i've had bad service on slow nights. the blonde with braces would be better off working in a diner with the way she talks with her mouth full (aren't i the one that's supposed to be eating, not the waitress?) and always has an attitude. all in all, with a little time and fine tuning, north 45 could be a gem. they are in a prime location, have a huge outdoor patio, are nonsmoking, and offer a large selection of beers and liquors. i'll wait it out and see what happens... Pros: location, patio, non-smoking Cons: inconsistant more

LONG OVERDUE! 5/1/2007

NW Portland has needed a place like this. It's sophisticated, yet unpretentious. The food is incredible, the atmosphere warm and the people, from staff to other guests, are incredibly friendly. It's the new-age ""Cheers"" for Portland and our generation. You really feel like these folks know your name. Can I say again how great the food is? Didn't see any clam strips on the menu, but the endless variety of muscles is incredible. Definitely try the fries and the salads. Not to mention, I could go on and on about the stellar wine list. Whoever is picking the varietals deserves an award. You absolutely have to try this place! Pros: Everything! Staff is incredible! Food is fantastic! more

Fun place 4/5/2007

I liked it at N45. It was full of fun cool people. Made me feel so uncool. Pricey for my liking but not bad considering the area it is in. Try the Clam Strips. They are so good. Pros: Nice feel, great clam strips, nice server Cons: a little spendy drinks are short poured a tad bit more

NW 21st Avenue needed this place!! 3/31/2007

NW 21st Avenue needed a place like North 45! A place where you can go and hang out, drink interesting cocktails, and eat amazing food with people that are friendly and talkative. I love that it is smoke-free. I've been there twice so far, and had a blast both times. I was with friends, but met some new friends while I was there because its a mingle-friendly environment. The music was totally eclectic; at the end of the night, Salsa music was on and people were dancing. The energy is very good in this place, and I think its a tribute to the owner and the bartenders who are all very helpful and proactive in making sure that you have a good time. They also expanded their space with an amazing patio area in the back that is going to be great once the weahter improves. If you haven't checked this place out yet, you definitely should! I should also say that the food was delicious and the portions are large! You won't be able to finish! I had mussels, and my friend had the BLT. Both were delicious! Pros: Friendly staff, great food and drinks, fun for mingling... friendly patrons, smoke-free! Cons: Parking can be hard on 21st, can be crowded because its a small, cozy space more

A Welcome Addition to NW 21st 3/13/2007

North 45 Pub is a welcome addition to the eclectic bar scene on NW 21st. The seating inside varies from tables with a view of the street (ideal for people watching) to a long couch that stretches along the north wall of the pub, with tables and chairs along the length of the couch. more

Found: Aging Fraternity/Sorority Members. 3/13/2007

For some reason, this bar has generated buzz with the '30-something' crowd in NW Portland. I have a pretty open mind when it comes to bars, and am generally satisfied with a cold beer, a simple mixed drink, and reasonably adequate service. My standards are far from unreasonalbe. I decided to check it out, and had high hopes. It's a great location, fantastic curb appeal, and a great name. Pros: Great Location, High Pheromone Count Cons: Slow Service, Cramped, Loud more
