Quaint and Quiet 2/1/2010

This is the most enchanting coffee shop on Nob Hill. Right next to where the cable car takes its loud turn down Hyde, Nook is really just that, a little nook. Cozy wood benches and chairs feel like little personal cubicles all lit by candlelight. The staff are polite and poignant, and definitely not your typical run-of-the-mill baristas. The prime times here are middle morning for the bagels and free WiFi, and late evening for drink specials and wine selections. In reality, there is really no bad time to enjoy this little gem. Pros: Exceptional variety of food and drinks more

fantastic neighborhood spot! 8/24/2009

this is my go to in nob hill- love the bagel sandos, $2 happy hour wine and daily soup specials. Pros: happy hour, fresh food, good for all meals more

great coffee shop 1/30/2007

Nook is the kind of place that you are scared will one day disappear as the encroaching virus of big-business coffee eats further and further away at the core of america. Ok maybe that is a bit overstated, but seriously Nook is very charming. The waitstaff is a motley bunch but very friendly. The coffee and food are above average, but the ambience exudes 90's beatnik appeal. Pros: cute, nice neighborhood more

Super cute coffee shop 11/20/2006

Crowded on the weekends, but if you can grab a table the food and ambiance are worth it. The apple and walnut salad is amazing!! Pros: ambiance and coffee Cons: a bit of a wait, a little pricey more

It just can not get better! Superb Place! Thanks! 9/17/2006

It is just not the coffee which is great. All food items are freshly made with a excellent quality. This will certainly be my local from now on! more

Feel at home at the corner! 9/16/2006

Nook is a very cosy and friendly place with great food and drinks. the coffee is perfect and i really LOVE the bagels especially the smoked salmon. i like to be there in the morning sitting at a window table or outside in the sun. at night there is a great ambience with candles on the table - just right to meet a friend for a glass of wine or a sake cocktail. go there and enjoy! Pros: Friendly service no matter how busy! Fresh food! Great roasted bagels! more

Not just the Java 9/13/2006

Best place to grab a bowl of oatmeal in the morning and a wonderful glass of wine in the eve. Too bad it's not ""just around the corner"" for me. more

Perfect Overall 9/13/2006

Couldn't ask for a better place to have a Saturday/Sunday brunch or a glass of wine after work. The food is super, the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect for gathering with friends at small tables or enjoying a coffee and newspaper by yourself. Pros: The trolley cars passing outside the window. more

Great Service, Ambience, food and the right people... 9/13/2006

This is a really nice place! Just check it out! Pros: Service more

So cute! 7/6/2006

I'm so glad I have a place like this a hop skip and a jump away from me. I love the atmosphere the food, and the people. The only bad thing about it is that it can get crowded on the weekends! Pros: Italian sodas, sandwiches, and coffees! Cons: Can get way crowded on weekends. more

delicious, but not friendly 11/7/2005

I went in to Nook because I live nearby and I read the reviews here. Although I enjoyed my Au Lait and fancy bagel for almost $10 (yikes), I found the service to be unfriendly, and I felt like I was bothering the Barista. C'mon, if you don't like your job, at least ""act"" like you do. I was treating myself to spend so much, and it was good, but good customer service is very important. I will go back in the evening to try again, based on the reviews here. Pros: food, coffee, atmosphere Cons: unfriendly barista, expensive more

Great for breakfast 7/6/2005

I think Nook can definitely be called a breakfast place. They might not be the typical amarican breakfast joint but they do have a decent selection like waffles, oatmeal, granola as well as bagel sandwiches like scrambled eggs on a bagel, the most amazing salmon bagel and more. (Check out their web page...) Their quiches are organic and excellent quality so I doubt they come from costco. I thinks it's a great combination of a day and night spot. Check it out any time, you will love it! Pros: fun wines, fresh bread, great coffee Cons: no omlettes etc. more

Not really a breakfast place 7/3/2005

I visited Nook because it Citysearch listed it as a breakfast place. If you don't want pastries, Nook is not a breakfast place. There are no egg dishes, for instance. Or there was one egg dish: a quiche, which my friend and I had. It was delicious, but it came out of a box and may have been from Costco. The coffee was spectacular. Pros: coffee, quick Cons: no kitchen more

wine and beer, with great food as well 5/31/2005

I've been for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. All the items on the menu were great. The artichoke bottoms filled with baked goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto are awesome. The funky cocktails are great there. Very delicious. For lunch try one of the ciabatta sandwiches. Big and very tasty. A great spot all around. Pros: great value, location, ambiance Cons: busy weekends, closes at 11pm more

Great place for a quick bite 5/22/2005

I have now been to nook for both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was good. There isnt a lot of choice, but what they have is tasty. I went there the other night and it was a great place for a few small dishes. We grabbed a few glasses of wine and some small plates and it was fabulous. I will definitely make it back! more

I want more! 4/13/2005

My first impression was, FINALLY this neighborhood has a cafe that I can get great coffee at! Not to mention that everything is either Vegan or Organic (they still have meat) ... but don't let that scare you away every dish is amazing. Nook has great music, a relaxing atmospere, don't be surprised if the owners stop by your table to ask you how your meal was. This is definately a place to check out not only the weekend but during the week too! And I would say its a great place to bring those visiting friends because the cable car stops right out front. Need I say more? Pros: Great food, Inexpensive, Great wine Cons: Parking, Can get crowded more

Welcome Welcome Welcome 4/10/2005

Nook has already become my ""go to"" spot for grabing a quick bite (can't go wrong with any hot sandwich) or just hanging out with a cup of coffee and reading the paper. They have hi-fi, wi-fi. I've been there once at night and had a fun time talking and meeting neighbors while having a couple glasses of wine. Nook turns into a loungy, pseudo wine bar at night. This is a welcome addition to Russian Hill. Love the place. more

My new favorite spot! 4/7/2005

This cute little corner place just opened and I am already a regular. It is the perfect combination of a cozy corner cafe in the morning with the best coffee I've had in a while and a fun night place for good wines, cocktails and amazing food (salads, sandwiches, small plates and more) for reasonable prices. The atmosphere is very inviting and warm. A great addition to the neigborhood. I love it! Pros: lots of light, friendly service, outdoor seating Cons: tough parking more
