Although Nobu has great Japanese cuisine, their actual sushi is overpriced & nothing special at all. For great sushi go to Tomoe or Sushi Samba! more

Anything that you have to wait for that long and pay high price for is not all that. For less money and no wait, there are tons of other places in the city. I almost want to say even GO SUSHI is better. more

Nobu had the best Japanese cuisine I have eaten in NYC. The sushi & sashimi was fresh and melted in your mouth. The restaurant was lovely and the service very good. I have recommended Nobu to my friends and would go back again and again. Pros: street parking, great location more

why is this on everyone's list of favorite japanese and sushi...most of the cooked food is great, sushi is good but if you want sushi, go somewhere that specializes in sushi like Yasuda or Kuruma.... more

Underwhelmed!! 9/19/2002

Good Service. I didn't order correctly and therefore was mildly disappointed with the food. Better sushi can be had elsewhere for less money. Service was spotty. We were asked 3 times for drinks before we got our water. more

Nobu next year 9/13/2002

The first time I ate here was sometime last spring at around 6 PM. I got a seat at the sushi bar right away, as I was the only person sitting there. When I went back this summer at around 7, the place was packed and I was told that there would be an hour wait. When I asked if there was a seat at the sushi bar, she said that it was closed. Which made no sense, as it's just a counter. The hostess had major attitude and somehow I didn't quite believe her. So I took my business elsewhere and don't plan on going back any time soon. Love that Sake!!! 9/10/2002

Wonderful sake, wonderful service! The wait staff is very helpful, taking the time to help a star-struck young couple at Nobu for the very first time. The sashimi salad is a must have, and so is the kobe beef. Can't wait to go back and do it all again! Incredible 9/5/2002

I had many business lunches this summer and this was one of the only places to which I would return with my own credit card in hand. Wonderful, inventive, but perfectly matched, concoctions. Excellent variety and, for New York and for the amount of food you get, reasonably priced omakase. The Bento Box dessert is sublime. Don't get the sushi here since you can get better elsewhere, but more importantly, because there is too much else that is unparalleled in this city. ...especially when someone else is paying! The food is truly incredible. As far as the previous reviewers comments about selective seating go, I think it's possible that she were mistaken. Nobu ND's hosts typically take down your cell phone number and call when a table is ready -- so it is not unusual to see people breeze in once they've gotten a call... more

Fun & fine if you can afford it 8/24/2002

Nobu is an experience - theatrical and culinary. The decor is stunning with an Asian rock wall, seats resting on what look like chopsticks; nothing has been spared. It's large and always full despite the horrendously expensive menu. My son and I shared an omikasi special for $150 and left starving. Even ordering ala carte, it's hard to feel you're getting your money's worth. It's truly a special occasion meal for most anyone who's not a mogul. The food, however, is inventive and intriguing. dont be taken in because the star's eat here. food and presentation are excellent. people watching is fun but overall I'm sure you are all content with your local sushi place that yes does serve fresh sushi, go for a drink but not a $20.00 roll. trust me you will never get a reservation anyway. go where they know your name and treat you like a person. more

Money talks 8/19/2002

My boyfriend and I decided to go to NDN last Thursday evening. We we arrived, we saw a couple of empty tables. But, the maitre'd told us that the wait would be about 30 mins. When we told him that we'd wait, he said ""maybe even 45 mins"". We were OK with that as well since there aren't many restaurants we could go in the neighborhood. While we were waiting outside, we noticed that there was no one else waiting outside. Plus, there were several people that walked in and got seated right away. As they had a ""first come first serve"" policy, we thought it was really weird that they didn't have to wait either. We then realized that the people were slipping the maitre'd money! Although the food here is good, slipping the maitre'd money is something i would NEVER succumb to. Pros: Food Cons: Poor service, Must pay the maitred more

OMAKASE oh my! 8/9/2002

I highly reccomend ordering the OMAKSE (Chef's choice) after a brief interview of your wallet (starts at $70/pp) and your dinning tastes the most unbeliveable array of dishes begins to arrive at your table. My favorites included sashimi salad and the black cod. Quite simply I did not know food could be this good. Pros: food!, Good Scene Cons: tiny bar, long wait, hard to get a table more
