always good here 3/6/2010

My girlfriend and I have eaten here many times. The staff is always friendly and food is always good. . The decor is a little old, but most places on Pico are. The newest place is across the street, but its not Indian food. We have never had any problems with the food there except for the fact we eat too much when we go there. The lunch buffet is ok for $7.95, what do you expect for 8 bucks? Pros: great vegetable biriany and curries more

Nizam Indian Cuisine is good 8/23/2009

Nizam has delicious indian food. It's been there for a long time. The food is consistently good. I like the chicken tikka and nan the best. Their paneer dishes are good too. more

Very good Indian food 8/19/2009

Nizam has very good Indian food served in a pleasant atmosphere. It is nice to share a variety of small dishes. The other option is to come at lunch time for the yummy all you can eat buffet. There are always at least a half dozen selections to choose from, all served warm nan bread. more

Indian curry buffet 8/14/2009

Located across the street from Westside Pavilion Mall. Nizam has all you can eat lunch buffet for around $8. The buffet includes different types of curries and salads. Food is good and service is decent. more

Excellent Indian food!!! 1/5/2009

Nizam is a family-owned and operated business. They have the best Chicken Makhani ever! I highly recommend Nizam as it is the best I've had in the W. Los Angeles / Santa Monica area. One way to become familiar with their menu is to try the lunch buffet. The lunch buffet is the best deal, but their food is worth every cent. more

Scary Bad 12/30/2008

Went there for the lunch buffet and I knew things were bad from the start. The carpet needed to be replaced about 20 years ago. The handles on the food warmers were all hanging on by a thread. The place just looks beat up and call me old school but when I see obvious signs of disrepair in the restaurant I wonder about the effort used in keeping the food fresh, clean and even safe. Pros: Across From The Mall Cons: Food, Ambience, Service more

Best Indian Food in the Area 11/17/2008

This is a family run restaurant that has been around for years and for good reason, the food is always very good. This is like a home style Indian restaurant and I have never been disappointed. It is a great place to bring the entire family, my kids love it. It is true that the decor is casual and outdated but for those who are more interested in the food then the atmosphere please try it! I always get the murg tikka makani, garlic nan, and the mushroom matar. It is located right across the street from the Westside Pavililion so it is perfect to grab a bite and see a movie. It is the best kept secret in the neighborhood. Pros: Great food, perfect location for movie seekers Cons: sometimes when crowded service is slow more

Great food and very fast delivery. more

I'd Rather Go Hungry Than Eat Here 8/9/2008

Popped in on a Friday night ONLY because it was across from Westside Pavillion and had to catch a movie. Wow! is this place a dump. The lighting is purposefully dim to hide what appears to be years of accumulated grime on walls, stains on carpet and dilapidated furniture. I can't believe there are not better food options on Pico and places like this continue to survive. The staff seemed dead and depressed - much like the food. I could tell the chicken was past its expiration date as it had that tangy decomposing taste. Not even the spices could mask it. The rice was old, dry and reheated. And the prices are REDICULOUS! My girlfriend and I are embarrassed we ate there. Pros: Luckily for Nizam right across from Westside Pavilion Cons: Everything else. Really! more

Disgrace to Indian cuisine 7/31/2008

NIZAM restaurant was the worst Indian resturant I have ever eaten in. This place lacked service, taste, and class. Upon arrival, the kitchen staff were sleeping on the entrance benches, the table clothe and the curtains were very dirty, the menu was all torn apart, the meals were very poorly cooked and tasteless. Our waitress didn't even have the courtesy to come and refill our coffee, or drinks. She didn't even bother to ask us if everything was alright. The lemonade was made with Crystal Light, which made us laugh our buns off. No refills on drinks, bread, or condiments. Nizam restaurant is a disgrace to Indian cuisine and culture. more

Boring! 7/24/2008

Nizam is close to my house, and I was excited to have great Indian nearby. Unfortunately, the food was quite a disappointment. The staff were not particularly friendly, and the menu is not informative. I'm vegan, so it's nice to know which foods I can eat. Nizam's menu did not indicate vegan dishes, and when I ordered something that seemed dairy-free, it turned out to be milk-based. Pros: right across from Westside Pavilion Cons: Indian food that is mediocre at best more

I love this place. So glad I wandered in. 7/11/2008

The buffets are very good and affordable. Decent atmosphere with very friendly host. Delivery is great as well. Everything is seasoned well. The chicken is perfect no matter what dish. I have eaten here about 6 times and I am about to order again. AND THERE IS PARKING RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. Nice people. Go! more

Authentic indian food and YUMMY samosas 3/27/2008

If you like authentic indian food that actually has flavor in it you should try this place out. The samosas we got as appetizers were delicious and their chutney is so fresh and spicy. I for one cannot have indian food without some spice so that was a bonus for me. Their saag paneer is some of the best I have EVER had so make sure you get an order of that!! Their naan was a little pricey, but you have to get it, because what is indian food without naan! Pros: great saag paneer, friendly staff Cons: pricey naan and small wait for food more

A Mixed Bag 10/6/2005

We love the food here, especially the vegetarian and seafood dishes. It really is some of the best Indian food in Los Angeles. And it's true the staff/owner does recognize regulars, making it feel like your cozy neighborhood place. However I was truly embarrassed when I brought a party of 10 people here last year, and the owner and waiter rushed us out of there at 9:30pm--I guess they wanted to leave. My guests were from Europe, where they are accustomed to having a long meal, and they were shocked. This was truly disappointing, and has prevented me from coming back, except for the ocassional take-out. Another criticism is that the decor is outdated, and they could use some soft ambient music--the silence can be awkard. more

Nicely Spicy 6/22/2004

I've been going to Nizam for the past two years, and love the food, which is consistently good. It's one of the very few places in LA that serves spicy Indian food that is also nuanced and flavorful. Dinner is much better than the lunch buffet. The Ginger Wings are amazing, building a lovely slow burn. The various rice dishes and different types of curries are great too. My husband and I order around the menu trying different things, and are always pleased with out discoveries. I was suprised to read the other review; maybe it was a bad night? I've had the tandoori chicken, and it was well spiced, fresh and tender. Once you've been there a few times, they recognized us, which was nice--and unusual in an LA restauant. Pros: Flavorful food, Gracious service more

Avoid this one 2/9/2003

Zagat Survey raved this restaurant during the years of 1988 to 2000. Sorry to say that this establishment has gone to shambles ever since. The food was cold and looked like left over from lunch time buffet. Every thing tasted bland and old. Chicken was of bad quaility and cound't cut it with a knife. Avoid if you can. Cons: bad food, no parking more
