I had the buffet, quite limited but priced alright, and got to sample some of the most bland Indian dishes in the world. Everything is a uniform gooey orangish red and pretty unamazing. The food's not terrible, but I could whip up better tasting curries than this restaurant. And don't even get me started on the desserts. We Indians are all born with a sweet tooth. In fact, we have 'sweet stores' on every corner back in India. The desserts at Nirvana were a disgrace. Just drive to Harwin the next time you crave for Indian food. more

Great Indian Food 1/28/2011

My parents who live out in the country love to come in town and have some Indian food when visiting. This was the first time we had tried this restaurant and were pleasantly pleased. The service was great and food was delicious. It's in an easily accessible spot from highway I-10. We cannot wait to meet up there again. more

Bland food, place to avoid 10/23/2009

Its the most bland tasting Indian food ever in all of Houston. Where is all the spice in the ""Fresh spices ""that is being touted as a speciality of Nirvana.The owners need to rethink about drawing the line between mellowing down a dish vs tampering with the actual taste before putting it down on the menu . It is not even worth trying ,even if one is a diehard indian food fan. Save the trip and the money for restaurants around Hillcroft Avenue.They serve better tasting ,sumptuous food that can be called Indian, than this place. Pros: Water Cons: Everything more

Excellent food - Went for lunch 5/8/2009

I want to lunch with a coworker since I work in the energy corridor and had the buffett. Tried almost everything on the buffett and loved it. Their chicken marsala was my favorite and the naan was placed on the table immediately. Dipping sauces were excellent...try the chicken marsala in the green sauce. Out of this world. For $12, the food was excellent...I'll definitely come back. My tea was refilled everytime I looked up. I walked away full and satisfied. Excellent ... Yummy.... Don't Miss! 12/19/2008

I have eaten at nearly every Indian restaurant in the Houston area. Nirvana is one of the two Indian food restaurants that I return to over, and over, and over. I order so much from Nirvana that when I call, the staff know me -- and my order -- by heart. It has all of the charm of a local neighborhood establishment with the quality of an ""uptown"" eatery. The owner and staff are helpful (if you don't know what to order or want to try something new, they're great at assisting you in making a choice). The food is excellent. The restaurant can be crowded at lunch, so try them at dinner if you want some personal attention. Also, consider their Monday night buffet if you're trying them for the first time - it's a great way to try a variety of things at one time. I highly recommend Nirvana! Pros: Excellent Food, Easy Parking, Friendly Staff, Happy to entertain food accomodatons (spicier, less spicy, no this, no that), Good portions, Awesome Monday evening buffet Cons: Borderlines on being a little pricey but oohhh so worth it. Worest food EVER! Save your Money 11/4/2007

I ordered dinner for four persons from this nirvana after finding their adds on our door. It cost me a lot to try their bad food. I have to be honest and say that I got the best bread ever and the worest rest of food ever. I may advice them to turn it into bakery, For four persons, It cost around $90 and I got very bad food. they sent one spoon of salad per person. If you go to red lobster or Olive Garden, you would bay much less for many sides or lots of tasty food. Cons: Every thing more

Excellent Food, Excellent Service! 10/21/2007

Though I live a fair distance from this restaurant, it is always worth the drive. The staff recognize my husband and me the moment we walk through the door though we do not frequent this establishment as often as we would like. While the restaurant is not situated in the most ideal location and wouldn't necessarily attract one's attention from the street, that is soon forgotten. From the moment I walk through the door it is like stepping into home of a friend where I can relax, eat and enjoy the company. Tapestries hang against a brick wall with a mural on the opposite, dimmed lighting and tea lamps on white linnen tables fill the room. The staff are helpful and polite. The wine list is great. The food is fantastic. The other downside to this restaurant, aside from location and facad is the price. Two people can easily spend $50+ minus any drinks. best north and east indian cuisine 9/30/2007

I visit Nirvana everytime I am in Houston. I live in San Diego which is a pretty rich indian cuisine location. Nirvana food is comaparable and some of the dishes are actually really authentic and tasty. I have met the owner as he is from my birth state in India and found him to be very humble and polite. Nirvana has the best selection of wonderfully spiced food of all the Indian restaurants I've visited in Houston. The evening ambiance is perfect for dining in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I especially appreciated the helpful staff whose suggestions were perfect for my ""fellow foodies."" The Monday evening buffet is ALWAYS varied and plentiful. Try NIRVANA...It's HEAVENLY!! Nirvana it is NOT! 10/15/2006

My wife and I dropped in for a takeout meal on a mid-week evening. It was empty at 7pm. The location, building and decor is poor but the service was helpful. The food was quite plain and barely authentic. We ordered a variety of dishes for 4 people (a good cross-section of the menu). Everything was low quality, tasting almost out-of-a-jar or out-of-a-packet. I asked where the owner and chef was from, they said northern India but I remain unconvinced! Nirvana is not a good Indian restaurant and I think you can do a lot better elsewhere. I would not being friends, business colleagues or family to this place. Palette-stretching, high quality Indian food 8/22/2006

I have visited Nirvana twice, once for the lunch buffet, and once for a summer-only Monday night dinner buffet. Both times I have been blown away with the diversity and quality of the food. Every dish tasted completely different, with obviously fresh spices giving the food a complexity and depth of flavor I have not experienced since a trip to England a few years ago. No Nirvana Dining Experience Here! Don't Bother! 7/20/2006

The food is just fair but the attitude and lack of service is really bad. It took forever to get anything and this happened when there were only two other customers (couples) in the whole restaurant. I ordered the ""Nirvana Special Vegetarian Meal"" which was advertised as a complete meal with appetizer (samosa), vegetables, tomato/cucumber salad, various chutnies and relishes (at $18). What I actually got was about two small ounces of three different vegetables and a smaller portion of the salad and that was it! I guess they thought I wouldn't notice and when I tried to complain to the waiter/owner who obviously could care less, he turned his back and walked away while I was in mid-sentence. Don't bother with this bad experience. You certainly won't find a ""Nirvana"" dining experience here! Ashiana's, just a few blocks away is far superior. My husband and I have done the Indian food market in circles here looking for great food, consistency and value. A friend turned us on to Nirvana and we've been going back ever since. Years ago, Dahwat was our spot, and they changed hands and names. But, Nirvana is very similar to the taste and value we always found there. The restaurant is clean and inviting, and the people always polite. We go so often now that they are sure to recognize our faces. The lunch buffet is always fresh, and the manager is always sure to keep the line restocked (often informing us that they have Chicken Tikka Masala on the way or fresh Naan coming to the table). We'll probably be regulars for years. Pros: taste, value more
