My hair is difficult to manage, so in order to avoid styling in the morning, I have had digital perm done at different places in the past, but have never been quite happy with the results. I decided to try out Emily after searching the internet, and boy! her procedure is clearly unique in which, she methodically places different size rollers to create a natural look on your hair. It's more of an art work, I think.My hair came out looking much better than expected and easy to manage as well (I wish I could post my picture in here!). I now realize that the digital perm machine can only do so much, but the technique is what makes the difference. more

Digital Perm 2/19/2011

I made an appointment for a digital perm. When I got there Emily asked what type of curls I wanted, I looked thru her book of photos and picked the one I liked best. Yes my hair did come out like that, so I can't complain about that.\r \r However it wasn't what I wanted from a digital perm. I saw all these pictures on the internet of curls that looked like they were done by large hot rollers or a curling iron with a big barrel. That's what I wanted.\r \r Over all, Emily was great and the salon is nice. I'm just not really happy with my digital perm, but that's my fault for not speaking up about the curls I wanted and picking a picute that I thought was good... more

A great experience with Hair Straightening 8/7/2009

I've recently moved here from Pasadina, and checked out New Look based on a friend's recommendation. I had the Japanese Hair Straightening done by Emily, and the result exceeded my expectations. I've had hair straightening done before in LA, but Emily is clearly one of the best. Her price is reasonable too. If you want hair straightening, this is the place to go. Nice pedicure/manicure job 4/29/2009

I'm so happy with Van, this little Asian lady. I've been to many salons in the past, but nobody has given me the pedicure/manicure like her! She's meticulous, cheerful, and pays attention to small details. Unlike some other nails places, which use large stationary foot spas (that I tend to stay away because I've read somewhere that they're hard to clean and full of germs), Van uses a portable one. This is a small foot spa, which not only assures you that it's clean, but it also gives you a heavenly aqua-jet foot massage as well. Oh did I mention the leather chair? It's very relaxing & comfortable too! Pros: very clean place and relaxing atmosphere more

Quality Balayage 4/20/2009

I have had Balayage done over the past year at another salon and was never truly satisfied with the overall expereince. After going to Emily, I am truly satisfied with the natural look she provides. She spent time getting to know what I was trying to achieve. The end result looks great and for a reasonable price as well. I already have an appointment to go back! Pros: Great Price more

Best Digital Perm!! 4/11/2009

I have permed my hair over 10 times, and even though I ask for a body perm, I always end up tight curls. I have been wanting to try a digital perm -- the new Japanese trend that only a few salons offer. A friend went to Tenpachi and her digital perm looked like a typical spiral curl and not relaxed, and said she was in the salon for almost 5 hours! I decided to try Emily at New Look since she's my new favorite hair stylist. Emily told me she special ordered extra large rollers to achieve a real body wave. It took about 3 hours (the same time it takes for a regular perm) and it looks *perfect*!!! It looks like I curled my hair with a large curling iron. The curls are relaxed and soft. I can literally wash my hair and let it air dry and it looks amazing. No one knows I had a perm because it looks so natural. Pros: perfect digital perm, friendly, fast more

Emily is great! 9/10/2008

I went to New Look Beauty Salon after reading a couple of reviews from women who had Emily do balyage on their hair. I was a little nervous about it but am totally and completely happy with what Emily did. My hair looks great! I'm a natural blonde but over the years my hair has darkened. Emily's balyage technique left me looking blonde, very natural, not over done. I am really really happy with the outcome. Highly recommend her! The price was great too. Hair straightening 8/4/2008

I have recently had the Japanese hair straightening done on my hair. My hair has never looked better! I used to have curly, unruly hair, but now the entire texture of the hair is straight and shiny. When I get out of the shower, my hair stays straight and it only takes me about 5 minutes to fix my hair. It really was worth every penny, and I highly recommend to anyone who wants your hair straightened. Pros: clean and professional more

highly disappointed with my color 6/20/2008

I went here because of the recommendations I read on this website. Big mistake. My color, which took hours and was extremely expensive, was not at all what I asked for. I requested highlights and emphasized my desire that they look natural. I walked away with all-over color and extreme streaks. I cried this morning when I got a look at it again. BALAYAGE is much better than traditional highlight and/or hair coloring 2/29/2008

I didn't know anything about BALAYAGE until I met Emily of New Look Beauty Salon. I was there for a highlight last wednesday, and she performed a technique called BALAYAGE on my hair. This is an innovative technique developed by the French, which is more like an art as it's hand painted instead of traditional foil for highlight/hair coloring. The result was a lot better than I had expected, and my hair has never looked this natural before. Now I know why my friend said Emily is a master in hair coloring! more

Emily is the most wonderful waxing professional I've ever met. Her friendly personality makes you feel instantly comfortable, and she knew exactly what she was doing. Great place! Great service! 1/10/2008

I cannot express how happy I am with the hair color & cut I received last Tuesday afternoon at New Look Beauty Salon. I've been searching and searching over the past year for a salon, that would be attentive & actually care about how my hair turned out. Due to my failure in finding a good stylist/colorist, my hair was over-processed, dry, breaking, and overall, just horrible! I've paid way too much money on higher priced salons, just to be terribly upset with the results. This was my last chance. I was giddy with laughter as I left New Look. Overjoyed & utter relief is how I felt. After all of my bad experiences, and to find such a gem is a wonderful feeling. This is going to be my permanent salon from now on. After enjoying services from Emily for over a year, I find the quality of attention to my hair and waxing services to be consistently superior. My (short) haircuts have been left to her design and are genuinely flattering and look good for a long time. She is talented with color and offers creative suggestions with results that bring complements. Her waxing services are effective and gentle. Emily is professional yet friendly, making everyone feel warm and welcome. A real ""feel good"" experience with results that last! I walked in, no appointment. Fast service with a great smile! I spent an enjoyable 30 minutes in Emily's (Kimyen) chair. She has a great eye for detail and spent an abundant amount of time making sure everything was even and precise. All this an she was quick too! Thanks! Emily does the most amazing highlights you have ever seen - they grow out beautifully so you don't feel ugly in between touch-ups. I get so many compliments on both my cut and color. A GREAT STYLIST AND A TRUE COLOR EXPERT! 5/30/2007

Emily is fantastic! I went to her for help after I dyed my highlighted hair dark brown. She performed an absolute miracle and returned it back to a delightful, flattering blond in about 2 hours with zero damage. Honestly, my hair has felt much healthier since she colored it than it did prior to the service. She also gave me what I think is the best haircut I've ever had - it looks great and it's incredibly easy to deal with. It's been two weeks and the cut /color still look wonderful, and I've received tons of compliments! She's really knowledgeable about hair, and explains everything she's doing - which was great for me because I was slightly terrified about how my hair would turn out. GREAT HAIRCUT FOR MEN TOO !!! 5/22/2007

To put it lightly, my hair is a challenge. I've got extremely thick, curly hair that is difficult to manage. From my first visit to Emily about 6 months ago, she has known exactly what to do to make my hair look great, and I've been coming back since. Whether it's relaxing the curls to make my hair sleek, adding color to cover some gray areas, or a stylish cut that I can easily maintain, Emily does it flawlessly. She's personal yet very professional, and I always feel like I've got her full attention when I'm in her chair. She's definitely one of a kind!! more

Beware 5/19/2007

Saturday afternoon I though I would go in for a bikini wax. I walked into the salon and a woman took me back into the waxing room. She put a thick amout of wax down and pulled straight up without holding my skin. Needless to say, I left with three small bruises and one giant one. I asked her to please stop and asked how much I owed her for what she had done. She charged me $25 dollars for a service that left me totally bruised and in pain. I came back a little later and got a refund but if you ever need a wax avoid this place at all costs! Beware.\r \r p.s. I am an esthetician and do this every day. Could have done a better job on myself. Guess this is what happens when you trust a random place to be liscensed and know what they are doing. more

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED! 5/15/2007

I made an appointment with Emily based on the recommendation of a friend, who had a positive experience with her. I asked for a deep conditioning treatment, color, and a cut. I was absolutely THRILLED with the results!! She DEFINITELY knows what she's doing. My hair emerged from the foils in rich, natural colors that flattered my skin tone immensely. I said to her that I completely trusted her decision regarding my hair cut, but told her that I liked the longer lenght. I hoped I wouldn't have to chop it all off even though it is very thin, and I wanted more body and movement. She listened to my request and sculpted me a fabulous cut with soft layers, with TONS of movement (it's so full, swingy, and bouncy now!). I've never had anyone done what Emily managed to do it! Emily is very open, genuine, and warm person. She is truly happy and wants to make her clients happy too.... I felt great after I left the salon, and I will DEFINITELY be back. My search for a kind, talented, skillful, and creative hair stylist is finally over, and I am so thrilled to have found Emily. more
