Good food but not great service 9/14/2006

We went to this restaurant with really high hopes as this is a 100% Pure Vegetarian restaurant and one and only in Minnesota. Initially, It took them lot of time to make us sit when the restaurant was not that crowded. The biggest blunder came after we waited for 45-50 minutes I heard the waitress saying "Your stuff went to the other table wrongly". It was not a great experience though the food was good we could not enjoy it thoroughly due to the long waiting period. I heard this has been taken over by a new management lately so I think that could be the reason. I saw no Indian waiter or waitress working there, that struck me as well. I hope they would have fixed all the issues by now with the people's feedback. more

Uddupi Cafe 8/19/2006

i have been visiting this place from long time for vegetarian foods. I have been having fun till the point but what i have noticed from some time that service is degrading little but since food is good so its ok to ignore that. Just mentioning this so if they read , they can focus on improving that. more

getting better again 6/25/2006

not quite up to its old self after immigration troubles. not nearly so friendly. no more pappadum ("the health inspector does not prefer them"), but sambar, rasam, dosa, uppama, other staples pretty good again. If you had never been to the old Udupi, you'd think this one was great. It's at least pretty good, and certainly one of the few Indian places providing a great meal for vegetarians. more

STAY AWAY !! 1/16/2006

It used to be very good place for Indian food but now its no more.Due to good running business, staff started taking customers for granted. I went their with my friends and asked for a place different than suggested by Staff.Staff refused and asked us to sit .Other day we went and we found that its closed for renovatio n and it will open net day.I went again next day ( reason my cousin was in town and wanted to eat indian food ) and was shcoked to see that it was closed .Notice on the door was very old.I would not recommend this place. more

purely vegetarian !!!!! 1/13/2006

I believe this is the only indian restaurant in Minneapolis which is completely vegetarian. The food is very delicious and the staff is also very good. The afternoon buffet of south indian specialities has many varities like the idli, dosa and uttapam. My favorite is the paneer manchurian. This place is definitely worth a visit. more

100% vegetarian 11/18/2005

Weekend buffet in Udupi is simple awesome. That's when some 20 dishes, all vegetarian, are placed in the all-you-want buffet. Its a good value for money and the food is good. The staff is pretty friendly and the environment is typical Indian. Masala dosa, idli, rasam ,sambhar and various other mouth watering dishes make me go there at least once a month. Any person who goes there ones wants to back again and again and the " distance" takes a back seat. more

Good NE Southern Indian Veggie Food 8/17/2005

Udupi Cafe's roots are in the town for which it is named on Karnataka, famous for the food vendors and pleasant aromas that fill the air of the city streets. The typical southern Indian food is made with rice and lentils, and sometimes wheat. When mashed and ground together with spices and herbs, cooked on a giant griddle, dozens of different types of dosai can be made. The dishes here are pure vegetarian with over a 100 items to chose from on the menu. Chef Andrew Zimmern recommends Udupi for having the best sweet mango chutney in the Twin Cities along with Surabhi in Bloomington. For the Indian Market experience, Patels on Central is recommended. Vegan items offered. The lunch buffet provides eaters with an opportunity to sample a variety of the foods from southern India. more
