Bad Neighbor 8/26/2014

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I am writing this because the guy who owns the bike shop let's his dog run around the neighborhood, off leash, and it has attacked my dog and drawn blood, several times. When I have reported him to animal control, they go to his house, and he claims it is a different dog that was reported, ie, not his. This guy doesn't seem to give a damn that he upsets his neighbors, that he's breaking the law, or that his dog attacks other dogs - several of the other dog-owning neighbors have had the same experience with him. Animal Control can't do anything about it. So I decided to make it known to anyone who reads this, in the hope you will sympathize, and that you'll take your business elsewhere, at least until he starts leashing his dog. His bike shop may or may not be a good one, but to my mind he is a menace to society. more

Unfriendly, poor service 9/14/2010

I broke a spoke and decided to try Montlake Bikes for a change, to support my local shop. I'll never go back. After a 10 min wait (with plenty of salespeople hanging around), the guy tried to sell me a new wheel, then finally got the spoke for me. I eyeballed the spoke length on my way out the door, and thought they were a bit long, so I went back in and asked the guy if he didn't think the spoke was a tad long. He refused to recheck the length, and made a few more derogatory comments about me not buying a whole new wheel. I left angry, got home, and installed the spoke. Sure enough, too long. I won't be back: not worth the 75 cents for sloppy service and antagonism. Made me mad enough to write my first ever negative review. more

Inattentive service and no attention to detail 8/4/2008

I got my bike tuned up here and they didn't properly tighten my back wheel and left my brakes out of whack. I ended up falling when trying to climb. The instore experience was poor too because they left me waiting for over 15 minutes. more

Montlake Bicycles 5/24/2006

We have used this shop in every way - to buy bikes, all kinds, for repairs and for accessories like helmuts. The sales people are very knowledgable. They have been in business for ages, and the repair people are very knowlegable. An added bonus: across the street is Cafe Lago, an excellent local restaurant! more

Great for repairs 3/6/2006

When it comes to bicycle repair, it really depends on the individual. The guy who runs the Montlake Bike Shop. I know, I've forgotten his name is great. He won't oversell and he doesn't laugh if it is old. Of course, if you really need a good repair, private mail me Andy, I'm pretty good at it! Also, if you have a gnarly repair, then try Randy over at Gregg's Bellevue Cycle. more

Small shop with great repair service 3/6/2006

Check out the Montlake Bicycle shop if you're needing some repairs on your bike. It's a small shop, but don't let this discourage you. The shop is very comprehensive given its size. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Plus, it also feels like one of the advantages of it being small is that the staff will spend some time talking to you about your bike. Sometimes at the bigger shops it feels like they're trying to rush you to move along the production line. Montlake bicycles can handle any type of bike. Road cycles, mountain, downhill, commuter, and etc. They carry a good range of parts and equipment too; understanding that not everyone has the same budget for their bike. more

Great and reliable 8/30/2005

They've been around forever and they are local. Unlike the larger shops like Gregg's Greenlake Cycles, they have the time to talk with you. Been using them for 10 years now. I personally have seen major walking wounded bicycles go in and they never turn their nose up. The prices are reasonable as well. And of course, they will sometime gently tell you that rather than spend $200 to fix an old bicycle, it makes more sense to buy a new one for $500, but are gracious about it. more

Good place for road testing a new bike 8/20/2005

The staff isn't quite as helpful at Montlake as they are at Velo, but it is a better place to test drive a bike. They have lots of choices, but the store isn't as big as some of the other bike stores. They have a good selection of children's bikes. A good place to comparison shop. more

Montlake Bikes 8/19/2005

I’ve been to a lot of bike shops around the area, and I think this is one of the top ones. They carry a great selection of bikes and gear. I find all the helmets, shooes, bags, pedals, and other goodies I need here. The service department is also very nice—so far they’ve been on time and on budget. more

Small 7/12/2005

It is a small shop and they really do not have a very big selection of bicycles. I like the fact that the sales people are helpful and they are eager to please by adjusting your bike for you. I would not really recommend this place because of the limited selection. Parking is ok and the store is easily accessed. more
