Mojito Cafe

I've only been here once but had a great experience. I swear the steak dinner I got was the best I've ever tasted in my life. The waiter was amazing friendly and even told me the recipe! Who does that?! Downside is that it's so dang small you have to crowd in if there are more than two of you. It's also a bit pricey but it's worth it every once in a while. more

When the Mojito Cafe opened only a block away from our business, I was thinking it might be the perfect place to catch an occasional lunch or after work drink. That was about three years ago and after the first 5 or 6 visits it became apparent that there just wasn't much to write home about. Most of the lunches I've had there have been rather bland and dry...meaning, in need of a sauce or some wet veggies to help balance the dryness of plantains and dry-grilled meats. The Mojitos (a traditional Cuban cocktail) are pretty tasty, but drinking minty sugar water and rum gets old after awhile and after that...it's just another bar. In fairness, maybe it has improved since my last visit. more

Most of the food was good, the mojito not good enough for a second, the music was Cuban until they ran out?? then rap, the bathroom.... I should have gone before we left home. The real problem was when the bill came and they wouldn't honor our gift certificate. It wasn't expired and was signed by one of their employees. Our waiter said he didn't know what to do with it. The owner, Peter, said on my seventh call to him, that he'd look it up and either credit my card the next day, or call me if there was some sort of problem...... that was two weeks ago. Selling gift certificates and not honoring them seems a bit fraudulent to me, and not following through with a credit or call. That's rude. If you want good authentic Cuban with great hospitality I'd suggest Mojito Cafe on Lake City (not related to Western Ave. location). The guys there do a fabulous job. The food is unbelievably terrific, the music is great, the drinks are out of this world. And I know they return phone calls! more

I definitely enjoyed the food we received at Mojito. The ingredients were fresh and the portions a nice size. The spices used made this unlike any other food I have tasted in this city. The music was nice, but the food was a little expensive. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, so the service was pretty good. I would like to go back again and try another meal (fairly limited menu), but the chicken and beef dishes we had were delicious. more
