my girlfriend bag was stolen from under the bar (they have some hook left) and the manager said what do you want me to do? if she was a person of color he would at least gathered some information for future use.\r or help us look for it. wanted to go inside moes on a friday nite for drinks with friend...lo and behold there was this woman sitting in the bar with her child....what the H--- was that all about. after work crowd was coming in and she is in there with her baby. nerver say nerver when you think you seen it all....talk about a turnoff.....went to another place in nieghborhood....Please ...I think I would have fell to the floor if she was beastfeeding .... Never, ever go to this bar 10/25/2008

We just got home from Moe's, which used to be our favorite neighborhood bar. That is, until the bouncer pushed one of my friends in her face after she put her feet on the coffee table. Do not go to this bar. The owner is a horrible person -- after the altercation between my friend and the bouncer, in which she told the owner ""Your bouncer just pushed me in the face"" he told my friend ""I don't believe you."" Say it ain't so, Moe. You need to learn how to run a business. more

Rude Staff 8/10/2008

I'm psyched for the people who haven't had a problem with the staff at Moe's. I've lived in Fort Greene many years and believe me, want to like this bar since it's one of few in the 'hood.\r \r That said, Butch the bartender is rude and at times, downright hostile. I guess it depends if he decides he ""likes"" you or not. And before people say it's because I'm difficult, having worked as a bartender myself, am never anything but polite and friendly. \r \r Likewise, the female bartender/owner is rude and snotty, for no apparent reason.\r \r I don't know. It's just puzzling. \r \r When you're a paying customer and you're being polite and cordial, that kind of attitude is mind-boggling. Pros: Liquor Cons: Rude staff in charge of said liquor more

The new 12/28/2007

I saw a recent posting about this place and was moved to write a review in response to ""Avoid Fridays and Saturdays"". Contrary to that review its an awesome chillax environment. I am a regular there almost every Friday and Saturday night and I always have a great time. There has NEVER been a fight or brawl in my year and a half going to this spot. I agree it does get crowded and the service will slow down a bit due to the lack of bartenders but that just gives you a chance to go outside and get some air, or smoke a cigarette and meet cool people while things hash out inside. The crowd is eclectic...never any riff raff. Mostly artsy, hipster locals and people who dont feel like all the way to Manhattan to have a good night out. Hands down its my favorite place to go in Brooklyn. I hope it stays open FOREVER !! Bartenders are cool and its a wonderful establishment...where everybody knows your name! Good Nights, Great Bartenders 5/26/2007

I love this place. I come in and find a seat at the bar, my early week bartenders are pouring my usual and greet me with a smile. I'm not very social and they don't push. The regulars are a hog pog group of people that are smart and over the years seems to get larger in number. With each bartender you get different music. Sometimes a jazzy infused Sunday with everyones fav Sean. On Monday and Tuesdays with Butch it's all your favorite rock, r&b and alt 80's tunes. Maria's funky Wednesdays are my personal favorite. I'm not crazy about the karaoke on Tuesday, but it's always crowded. The only downside for me is, when it gets very crowded the service becomes slow with only one bartender on duty. Oh and as an observer in my favorite watering hole, if a bartender is rude to someone; it ususally means they did something rude to deserve it. These folks don't take no mess from anyone. AVOID FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS 5/14/2007

Unprofessional and rude bouncers, nasty manager (veronica) and butch the bartender -pls get hook on phonics and learn how to count. Be careful with this bartender if you do not tip him to his liking, he will include the tip in the price of your drink - this is not acceptable. its called stealing! Almost every weekend there is a brawl or fist fight at this bar. It is becoming a problem to the fort greene scene. Who is running this place. The Only spot in Ft Greene 3/14/2007

This is it for me.No where else close by even compares. It's my neighborhood bar. Yeah, I don't go late on weekends. I don't go to any bars late night on weekends if i don't want to get harassed. Happy hour is a good time. Weeknights it's mellow but not dead. The bartenders are cool. The drinks are strong and it's got the best mix of the neighborhood crowd. You never know what you're going to find there. What's cool about Moe's is it's not uptight and it's not a dive. I have definitely lost some hours there.When I'm good and hammered sometimes I'll stumble to the Alibi but by that time I'm in no condition to critique. more

Great place on weekends if you like over-crowded and, if you're a girl, being super aggressively hounded by drunken meatheads. Jukebox is good, but aforementioned drunken meatheads will put on repeat any tuneage they're famiiar with. (Jane Says, anyone?) Then you've got the wannabe scenester contingent fighting the meatheads for jukebox time. Curt, unfriendly bartenders, too. Why, I have no idea. The bar's lame. Great Bar in a Great Hood 8/1/2005

This might be my favorite bar in Brooklyn. It's relaxed without being drowsy, fun without being out of control, and a truly mixed crowd. Everyone I've brought to this bar loves it Hip without being painfully so, which is nice. And the frozen mojitos rule. Pros: inexpensive, nice decorations, clean bathrooms more

A great neighborhood bar 6/20/2005

I'm glad to have a decent neighborhood bar to hang out at. Wish it wasn't so overcrowded (mainly on weekends), and the music is usually lackluster (or way too loud if there's a DJ). But overall, Moe's is usually a good time. I'm glad to know the place is women-owned. And the lovely bartender Kimberly whips up awesome Margaritas. Moe's is great. I went there on Saturday with some friends and had a fabulous time. The crowd is friendly, the bartender is quick and eager to please. My friend didn't like her drink and he doctored it up with no attitude. The music is eclectic, just like the crowd. Overall, a place with no attitude where you're guaranteed a fun time with cheap drinks. more

NASTY 7/30/2004

RUDE bouncer, bartenders and the little manager girl was worst of all. We spent a fair amount of $ there. Our group accounted for a few hundred dollars on a slow night for them. You'd think they would have been friendlier. The staff was very pretentious, especially for a rundown-looking bar in an unpretentious neighborhood. I was UN-pleasantly surprised. Not only one of the coolest, most unpretentious spots in Brooklyn, Moe's is undeniably one of the best bars in all of New York City. Friendly and eclectic crowd mixed with flawless service and consistently great music. Fort Greene loves Moe's, and you will too! more

Finally in Fort Greene 10/11/2002

Despite its central location, Fort Greene has a surprising lack of bars and hang-out spots. Moe's is a welcome addition -- the staff is great, although there can be a wait for service when the bar is crowded on weekend nights. I prefer Moe's for weekday evenings, or early on the weekends. The lounge set-up seems much more pleasant for conversation when the place isn't packed to the rafters. When there is a DJ, the music drowns out any conversation at all. Pros: good location, good mixed drinks, nice space Cons: DJ too loud, too few bartenders more

Try it ...You might like it! 8/5/2002

I went to Moe's last Week. It was hot and crowed...but oh what fun I had! Eddie the dj was moveing the crowd all night long. The bartenders Sheanan and Butch set the place on fire with their sexual play with each other and the customers. I will go back and bring friends! A note to the owners: You should have Eddie, Butch, and Sheanan there more often. Between them and your customers....it was one of the best nights I have had in New York in years!! more
