Does anyone know if Ming's is still somewhere in Houston? 3/21/2012

I'm trying to find where I can purchase the mint green tea that they had at the cafe on Montrose at Westheimer? If you know where I can get in touch with the previous owners or someone please contact me. I live in Las Vegas now and still miss that mint green tea. Thanks! more

I just don't get it! How could any TRUE AMERICAN want to eat there.... Seriously horrible eating area and everyone rating the food as great...SURE IF YOU CRAWL OUT OF THE SEWER!!!!!!! The food is cheap and I saw why.....rat traps surrounded the building where as all the other surrounding restaurants had nothing like this in view of public and the service was NASTY too. I asked for the soup of the day and I saw the cook Wipe his nose goo on his hand and then grab the pan and then pour iy on the plate....F'ING NAsty!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure you nasty Bastar#% crawling out of the sewer that can't wait to visit them in Austin which have nothing else going on in their life just go eat there and mabe the next name on the menu will be Scruffy.....hint hint!!!!!!!!!! U IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: Never know what you are getting more

An inner loop Chinese institution - sorry to see it go! 8/28/2008

The food at Ming's was always fresh and delicious and the dumplings & wonton soup were out of this world. The service and decor were part of its interesting character. Wish I had prior notice of their closing, I would have stocked up and frozen some of my favorite entrees. We will be checking out Ming's Austin as soon as we can! more

Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/25/2008

Service was horrible and the food was very below average. The dining area was nasty ( floors are falling apart and falling in ) and I am dying to see what is going in there now that Mings is gone. Pros: Dining in the Montrose area Cons: waste of money more

Yuck!!!!!!!!!!! 8/15/2008

The food was so artificial tasting and I was always bloated.....Thank Goodness they are closed!!!!!! Pros: Location Cons: Read on more

Best food! 7/28/2008

Mings is one of the best food places here in the montrose area, especially for college students around rice or st. thomas area other than fast food like mcdonalds and burger king its relativly close to everythign in montrose, its an awsome taste, its not to small, and yes maybe the service isnt like one in river oaks when u get waited on but out of the selfservice restaurante sin montrose it is one of the best. more

Yummy quick bite! 7/9/2008

Mings is a YUMMY and inexpensive quick bite! After getting precooked BBQ chicken, squash, corn, tomatoes, and potato salad for my dinner guests at Central Market, I ended up making a fast run to Mings. After 1 bite of the CM food, I asked my guests if they disliked the food from CM as much as I did. 1 phone call, a 15min cook time for Mings, 5 min drive home and WAALAA.....we were all having dinner with a smile on our faces. Huge dishes, low cook times, great prices and FANTASTIC food! Pros: Great food, cook times, outdoor seating, low prices more

Chinese with an attitude 7/5/2008

The food here is okay but surely not the best. But, the service is terrible. The little lady who's behind the counter behaves as though she hates her job and that you're just a big interruption of her otherwise miserable day. The food is not worth the attitude if you ask me. Pros: pretty good food Cons: poor service more

Best quick Asian food in this part of the state, I'm convinced! 8/14/2007

My friend does business over in that area often, and calls just to tell me he's eating at Ming's, just to make me jealous. I absolutley love all of their food, and, by this point, I think I've worked through all of their chicken dishes, having yet to find one that had a bad taste. Some weren't my thing, but they were all good, and cooked to order. My favourite fall backk meal is just a nice big plate of their unbeatable chicken fried rice with an eggroll. I LOVE it and highly reccomend it! Pros: Best chicken dishes anywhere! Cons: Parking, seating. more

neighborhood's best kept secret 7/19/2007

my favorite Chinese food place! yes, it is tiny and sometimes parking can be a problem, but for quick and tasty Chinese food it hits all the right spots. there is a little dry erase board that shows the day's specials (take a look), but I always go back for the Gen. Tso chicken combo. includes drink, sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice. they use white meat in the chicken, it's not painfully spicy (pleasantly tingly I suppose, since not a huge fan of spicy food), and nice medley of jullianed carrots/onions/zucchini. however, found the Chinese green bean special with beef BLAH. friend had Singapore noodles, which was curry and rather spicy (but does clear your sinuses). more

happy little chinese restaurant. 4/24/2007

when i first moved to houston, ming's cafe gave me this impression that the place is incredibly tiny and run down but its always packed. ming's cafe is a great place to eat because its not too expensive, the food is tasty, and the ladies there are very polite. the cooks are mexican, but i guess its ok because im not too snotty about the whole authentic food deal. i mean, come on, this is america. i think they have good fried rice so i would recommend that. more

Good Food, Nice Atmosphere, and is never busy, always seated right way 2/15/2007

Love the apitizers, their rolls are varied and great, portion size of main course is pleantiful and very FLAVORFUL. Deserts, I do not know never had enough room to try one. Pros: it is the total package Cons: the first time hard to find, in corner of strip mall more

Best Egg Rolls in Houston!!!! 2/10/2006

Ming's is the best quick Chinese food in Houston! Go on a Thurs night and check out the Motorcycles that gather there! Pros: Egg Rolls, Fresh Food, Value for the $$ more

Good for Your Buck 12/8/2005

Ming's is good for an hour lunch. The shrimp fried rice is fresh, never greasy. I never had anything greasy here. The wait isn't long and the service is good. Pros: cheap, good, popular more

Quick and affordable chineese food 11/3/2005

They are ok, I go there often on the weekends. The food is fine, it is sort of fast food but eating outside on the deck is fun. I like it. Don't expect fine cooking... but I recommend the place for a fast fix. :) more

Average at best 4/17/2005

I read about how great this restaurant was and everything, so thought I would give it a try. The food was not necessarily bad but it wasn't good either. I went around 3 PM so missed the lunch specials, but spending $8.50 I expected to get soup or an egg roll instead of just plan rice as a side. However, the quantity served was plenty but the sauce used in the dish was bland and probably a rehash used in every other dish. I tried better small chinese restaurants than this, better quality and value. I believe this is just another Montrose area restaurant that runs on hype rather than substance. more

Ming's is Very Yummy. 2/19/2005

The wonton soup is superb! The wontons are mostly succulent meat-filling, the skins melt-in-your-mouth thin. I ordered Shrimp w/Lobster Sauce and was very impressed here, as well. The shrimp were nice and fat, and didn't have that strong shrimpy taste that lower-quality shrimp has. The vegetables were crisply fresh: this was the first time I tasted sweet red bell-peppers in the Shrimp w/Lobster sauce dish! Many Chinese food restaurants have bland lobster sauce. Ming's' sauce was flavorful, and there was enough to go around, but not so much that your food is swamped. Plasticware doesn't bother me since I use chopsticks. Occasionally I need help with the rice, but find that plasticware is a more stable platform than most restaurant silverware; perhaps because of the wider tines. And if plasticware keeps food costs down, then by all means! :-) Three Dragons Café, Wilcrest and Briar Forest: same owner, same quality. Pros: Wonderful food, Quality service, Tree-covered patio Cons: Good fortune cookies, Good fortunes more

SchlebRock 12/21/2004

I can now understand how people will try a restaurant, and have a bad experience and not go back. I really enjoy Ming's, always have until tonight. Try and make sure you go there when the owner is there!!! I ordered to go, got home it was the wrong order. Then when they replaced my order it was not even half the amount of the incorrect order. On top on this it was cold. Just for grins I asked if I had ordered incorrectly, the answer i got was ""just bad communication"" . What ever this means. Everyone I send there really likes it, plus they take their friends. If you really want great Chinese food that is not saturated in sauce try Ming's, just don't go with me or you might have a bad experience. Pros: Relaxed, Quaint, Great Value more

WOW 10/20/2004

you wont believe the food is so fresh & good in this tiny restaurant. you have to try their homemade eggroll & dumplings. also I highly recommond the orange chicken. delicious....................... more

One of my favorite joints 8/2/2004

The food is outstanding, made fresh to your order. As good or better than any upscale Chinese restaurant in Houston but at much better prices. I love their fried rice and their Won Ton soup is the best I have ever had. And their egg rolls are made in house and are outstanding. No chi chi ambience and you have to order at the front and then pick up your food and eat it on plastic plates and forks, but that's certainly little discomfort for such great food. more
